Folks.

I unplugged my battery while working on the car, and now it does not start properly when the motor is warm. I have to blip the throttle otherwise it stalls.

Otherwise the car is fine, running better than ever.

I tried the ECU rest, idle resets, etc, but its hard to tell if i was successful.

Any ideas on solutions? Or is it just a matter of time while the ECU relearns?

Cheers

You need a new PCV valve methinks..

As an interim solution, remove the PCV valve, thoroughly clean with carby cleaner, reinstall, start and warm up car, then off-start (it may still stall), off, start, off start a few times. Soon after it won't stall anymore.

I did the above process and while straight after cleaning, it stalled after i started it about 3-4 times.. the next time i drove the car a few days later it didn't happen again. Getting a new PCV valve myself..ebay USA have 'em.

i had the same problem a while back when the battery died. it took a while but it looks like the ecu was able to make the adjustment. i was thinking of bringing it in for service because it was annoying (being a manual) but it eventually fixed itself. but like i said, it took a few weeks. have not had the problem since.

After your cars fixed itself..do your revs drop below normal idle setting (550rpm) when you clutch in to goto neautral, or also when you goto neautral and brake hard/semi hard ?

Interesting!

Good to know thankyou .

Almost certain a couple of NM35 stagea owners also had problems with hot start stalling, but like me they also suffered from revs dropping below idle on clutch in sometimes, especially under semi hard to hard braking. I've got the thread bookmarked but too lazy to open lol. Anyways, when one of them replaced their PCV valve, problem solved. I cleaned mine and the car is definitely running smoother.

I must say sounds like Xscape is having issues with the battery d/c then, not the valve.

Thanks guys. I will see how it goes over the next couple of weeks then.

Rianto, Saturday is doubtful for me at this stage as I have a date with a dyno. If anything I will make it to the car wash very briefly - it is filthy as hell afterall.

Anyway. The problem occurred after 30 minutes of having the battery disconnected. I was waiting for the motor to cool down before attempting to install my plenum spacer, but got impatient and decided it would be best to tackle it the next day. Hooked up the battery again and it wouldnt start properly.

On that note, I've since installed the spacer (motordyne iso thermal kit) and my review is that yes there appears to be a very slight increase in power. I got the kit with the additional gasket (b/w lower plenum and heads) and the coolant bypass valve - both of which seem to be working as the plenum is much cooler to touch after going for a spirited drive. Worth the money? provided you dont pay for installation - definitely.

Cracked open the plenum, wasnt too surprised to see 70,000 kms worth of caked on oil and carbon.

Carby cleaner FTW

Thats correct.

It was unplugged for about 30 minutes, maybe a bit longer.. Was getting too late in the afternoon and the motor was still hot so i plugged it back in to move the car.. and it kept stalling on start up unless i blipped the throttle.

I did the plenum install the next morning.

The car starts normallly when cold and drives perfectly fine all the time. Its just hot starts that are giving me trouble.

its not abnormal

it happens to alot of peoples cars

and yes it only happens on hot starts. cold starts are fine.

dont worry about it, will go away.

EXACT SAME issue here....discon batt (as not using car for a while and GPS sucks power, flattens battery when parked).

PROBLEM IS that that was 3 weeks ago...after some driving, hot starts STILL require acc pedal depress to keep idling, then all's fine.

BUMMMMMMMER!

I need to find the PCV on this car!...anyone got a pic with an arrow pointing to it?...lol.

OR...bring up the idle (how to do how to do?) by 150 rpm and that seems to solve it (simulated by slight pedal depress mimicking 150 rpm increase seems to work).

Cheers.

- Nope didn't fix it, going to try PCV and inspect throttle body next...

Got mine fixed a few weeks back, during a major service.....(46000 km)

Throttle body had to be removed and cleaned, (it was filthy) some sort of callibration of the throttle had to take place....now all ok. (idles nice and won't stall on warm start!)

I try really hard now not to let the battery go flat!!...(could be just coincidental, but I ain't taking any risks).

Oh, as for PCV valve?,,,,,I couldn't find mine!!!....(nor could the mechanic!)...anyways, car is great now.

She is a good woman, and in the big picture, I'm really lucky.....that she hasn't killed me yet

    • Will the clear coat dissolve the ink tho?? I thought about clear vinyl tape too. Thinking what to do haha. The one I have now is cracked in 1 spot, otherwise mint. Plus the MINES one is much thicker plastic material so its not flimsy at all.
    • No. Go a different colour, and just trim it at an edge line. Even manufacturers do different panels different colours etc.
    • I see no real downsides to ITB's, apart from the initial cost of my drive in drive out lifestyle, the "upsides" is they sound cool and would add lots of smiles I am willing to pay to play for the extra smiles I've spent the morning googling and youtubing the BBR ITB's, a "little" extra power and throttle response, but alot more dort, and really, I'm only really in it for the dort Who knows, after all this money is spent I might even make 150kwatw....LOL
