A farmyard battle sounds like fun Martin.Ute drags in Jan could be a goer.

Mate, you will realise soon enough that they are a lot more fun than GTRs.

:headspin: Easier on the pocket anyway!

Sorry to hear about the 33

We got an event coming up at Heathcote in early April that you might be interested in.....give me a call

Ok John,

Keir Wilson has been confirmed as a definite starter at the LS1 Drag Nationals (yes there is a Skyline/Ricer bracket). It would be excellent for you to bring your drag car, so the crowd could see Australias two eight second GTRs shooting it out. Good prizemoney too!

Will be fantastic to see two 8 second GTR's running side-by-side! So glad that there's an event that suits these drivers that doesn't conflict with their busy schedule.

How will the egos fair being as the LS1 event isn't "all about them" either?!?Adrian

Thats the thing, the egos will be left in the shed, and the racing kept to the track. When we approached Willall Racing about the event, they were more than happy to be involved, which gives Melbourne Skyline guys a great opportunity to see the car, live in action

I of all people understand that the top end Skyline competitors have invested vast sums of both time and money in these cars, and need to be given all due respect and consideration, which is what they will receive from the LS1 drag community. All of the fast LS1 guys I know are in awe of cars like Keirs, and would gladly take time out to watch it run.

Looks like we have a little challenge coming up John! I was talking to Mick late yesterday and he tells me you are going out to the track in the XR6 once he has finished setting it up (early next week?). Cool! How about some farmyard action, with XR6T versus VYII Tonner? That would make for some great drag racing. Keep in mind the Ute muster drags - 23-25th Jan AIR
I'm assuming the LS1 meet is a Melbourne/Sydney thing.... when's it happening?? Might be worth checking out.

How bout an LS1 vs RB meet?? :P

You had your chance to run as many LS1s as you could on Wednesday nights at AIR. So far your time would put you in about 32nd place on the list

wtf???? Craig does a 12.41 .... haven't seen many LS1s beat that or come even close to it yet :P (in fact only the Supercharged monaro that I know of) .... not at the LS1 day we had at AIR a little while back anyhow - as I remember most were struggling to get into the 13s

You need to get out a bit more son!

A small selection for you :P

hehe I knew that would get a quick bite Tuna :P

I was talking SA mate. As you confirmed - only 1 even in the ballpark. And I've beaten him at AIR anyhow :( - got it on video to prove it (yes I know it wasn't his best run).

Either way it will be awesome to see some of these guys run if they come here for muster.

Also, I saw a great sticker on a 180SX the other day:

"Only potting mix and kitty litter comes in 5 litres" :) ... hmm now what comes in 5.7l? tee hee

C'mon Martin you know better than that... Apples with apples please. :D

What if we applied the same, 'HPI Street Drag Challenge radial tyres only policy', to the above LS1.COM.AU Quick List? The list would be muuuch shorter. Judging by the 60's (& the 'S') I'd say it'd leave NIL :D

Edit - To be fair the GT-R's AWD advantage doesn't make some of the ground up against slicks (note 32Godzilla 1.7 60').

I dont think too many guys that drag Commodores would be interested in Japanese Street Drag Rules! Having said that, I think PlanB ran an 11 on Nittos, reckoned they werent much slower than his slicks, which was interesting

Again, it all comes down to how much money you spend on your car, spend 20-50K on anything and it's going to run quick.

If I had 20K to waste on my car I'm sure it would run low 11's, but I'd rather drive my stockish car around that's not a pig in traffic and still be able to leave most things for dead on the road. :D

I agree with all of the above :D .... strap some slicks (and/or nitrous as some of the LS1s) on our cars and we have a different bll game. I'd give any of those LS1s a run on the street on pure street tyres and I know what almost all the results would be.

Henrys stocker just ran 12.58 on radials......Robs Monaro 11.8 on radials (Falkens or some such rubbish).....maybe you wont win em all :D

    • Reading your posts Josh, sometimes I feel like I've gone in a time machine back to the 90's when everyone was doe-eyed and figuring things out for the first time.  I've lost track of how many single turbo GTR's I've seen on track that haven't burnt down lol. Everything has been figured out a long time ago. These things are at the point now where its essentially turn-key to go single turbo.
    • Among other things yes. Making sure to either use an oil pressure regulator or the right restrictor size for your oil pump/range of oil viscosities you intend to run, making sure you plumb the lines correctly, turbo should be placed such that it siphons properly even when the water pump isn't turning so you don't boil coolant in the turbo after shutdown, oil return should be low resistance and also preferably picking the one that is most likely to return to the pickup as opposed to some other irrelevant part of the pan. It's far from impossible to figure this out but I have seen people really, really struggle and if that's the case it's easier to just take the path of least resistance. To me, bolt-on twin turbos are a fixed cost whereas single turbo is almost unbounded.
    • Latest round of updates on the car. I purchased and installed a SWS clutch slipper to help with 60ft times and got some second-hand good condition 275/40R17 Hoosier DR2 radials. Test and tune in November showed the tyres were an upgrade over my over 15 year old mickey Thompson's and I got a 1.8 second 60ft and pb et of 11.71 but even then, that run wasn't great due to rain and driver error (the event got called off 10 minutes later fast forward to the weekend just gone 25th of Jan and there was finally a break in the weather to let racing happen. The first run the track was slippery and only managed a 12.1@129 Second run the track was better and got a new pb et and mph: 11.54@131   Lith and I then worked out that I installed the previously mentioned clutch slipper incorrectly and its never been working, and I had just been dumping the clutch the entire time, we also noticed it was on street boost and not race boost. So I lined up for a third run with the car turned up in the first two gears, but the passengers side axle objected to clutch dumps and left the chat which stopped my weekend.   so there will be another attempt in the future once I replace the tyres as they rubbed and are stuffed now. but a low 11 should be on the cards.
    • Ceramic coating and heat shielding, you mean?
    • Turbos don't require pulling the motor apart so that's "easier". I would recommend the Nismo R3 turbos instead if you want to do stock twin turbo. It doesn't make as much power as the 2530s but it's only like ~50 whp off the mark and should have better response (ball bearing CHRA, slightly smaller turbo). A local that went with a Garrett G30 and 6boost manifold recently nearly burned his car to the ground after the hood insulator started melting and and burning so if you go single turbo I recommend doing a lot of research and validation work to make sure you don't do the same.
