Hi all.

I had this in the cosmetic and styling bit but no one could help me so trying it in here.

Im getting a gt wing for my R32 GTR and need to make up a brace to support the boot

so it does not fold or get pushed in from the downforce.

Im after any info or pics of this done.

The wing supports are close together and dont go where the factory wing sits.

So i dont know the best way to go about this.

Do i brace under the boot where the wing is going to sit or do a make a brace that runs to the floor? Or sub box as i have two 12" subies in the boot?

If your not tracking the car your not going to get enough down force to dint boot. I have an old vt v8 supercar wing on mine and it has put a couple deep dints in the back of the boot from Phillip Island and Eastern Creek.

Also interested to see how people have stiffened the boot lid.

guess he wants his car to do a few different things.

how i will be doing it on my 33 is to run a reinforcement plate attached to the frame work of the boot itself. then using spacers to the boot skin to run the bolts through.

This simply spreads the load through the frame of the boot instead of the skin itself - wont be a light weight thing but 6mm alluminium should be sufficient if the plate is large enough.

there are a few ways I've seen it done but basically you want a frame underneath the boot that transfers the load from the wing down to the boot floor/chassis rails. it's easier if you have a removable bootlid but can be done even with traditional hinged boot lid. a very good example is the Advan/RGM/Hi-octane R34. there should be pics somewhere of their set-up. but it's a bit hardcore for the average street/track car. generally it's a track only mod as it means your boot space is gone, and for it to be any use you'd need a pretty serious wing.

I'll be using the car on the street and track with the subs in it.

Im not interested in times just want to fang the car around the track.

The subs will only come out for the drag strip.

Think the ali plate underneath is a good idea with some braces running to the sub box and might make another brace to run to the floor that i can bolt on and replace the one that runs to the subs when they are out.

If anyone does this put some pics up for us.

Ill add some of mine when its done.

with out sounding like a dick, you would probably shave more time by removing the sub box/boxes and amps etc. by the sound of your posts i assume you have 2 boxes or a boot install, theres probably 15KG or more right their.

but the wing if set up right will have an effect as well, maybe do both and shave even more time off.

there is a chaser in an old hpi mag that had just what your after. i dont have the pic or the mag so i cant help with an actual piture.

they basically used the type of stands that hold the wing currently (gusseted aluminum around 10-15mm thick) that had a flat surface on the top designed in such a way that when the boot is shut ( standard hinged boot lid) the top of the legs and base of the wing touch. the bottom of these legs in the boot had feet that were bolted to the boot floor. so in theory it was like having really long legs for the wing that snapped in half when the boot opened.
