Space Goat
going on your other post if you get a dashmat your automatic lights wont work nless you get that piece of the dashmat open... if you park your car in the sun during the day id suggest to use one of those window visors... much better security wise aswell... and carpet on your dash doesn't look the best in my opinoin Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/299130-hot-dash-need-mat/#findComment-4973567 Share on other sites

BASHO
Automatic lights? The centre LCD lights on my climate control unit and in my head unit appear to be controled by a sensor during daytime running which dims them down to the point of being unreadable Space Goat has kindly advised me where this sensor is (left hand corner of the dash as you sit in the drivers seat) it looks like a small, about 10mm diameter, solar panel. I am going to gleefully cover it up to see if it will undim the two LCD panels so I can actualy read them in the daytime. the sensor does not seem to control anything else and I have no idea if there is any on off control for it though there may be something in the climate control unit if I could only figure it out. jrm
Interesting - I've been reading the R34 Workshop manual and they talk about an 'automatic' setting for the lighting switch - but I'm buggered if I can find anything like that. Playing with the sensor on the dash seems to do nothing with interior or exterior lights - maybe mine's busted? I might have to run through the diagnostics in the manual - but without having this switch in the 'automatic' position, I'm not sure it's going to help me... AnDyStYLe
If it's the same as the 180's and s13's... I believe that sensor you guys refer to is the sun sensor for your climate control Cheers, Andy Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/299130-hot-dash-need-mat/#findComment-4976029 Share on other sites
Carbon 34
its climate control sensor, unless you have a aftermarket alarm or light sensor fitted use the silver faced sun shade, the dash mat looks crap , even custom ones Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/299130-hot-dash-need-mat/#findComment-4976328 Share on other sites

I have on off temp variable aircon and ? There is no auto switch (at least that I can find) to control the centre LCDs lights though they will brighten if you go into a dark area from daylight but during normal running daytime they're crap I can't see squat. mad082
dash mat might look a bit crappy but it will mean that in 10 years time the dash won't look like crap. i have always used them in all my cars (except my 2 imports) because they also reduce a bit of glare off the dash and make it a touch easier to see out the windscreen at certain times of the day when the glare off the dash reflects up onto the windscreen. as for where to get one made, go and talk to the people at your local autobarn, etc. they should have a supplier that will make custom mats and may be able to make one up for you. Bliksem
I got one for my R33 from these guys last year: Accessories Online They dont list R34, but it would be worth asking. Where I was working meant I had to park in the sun all day and the mat helped alot... Yes it comes with the sun sensor cutout... There is also a CF mat available I saw on Yahoo Auctions a while ago, but I cant find it anymore...
