why does it have to be in good working order? Aslong as it starts it'll be fine, most car yards that sell euro cars don't bother trying to resell the trade in at their own yard, they usually ship them straight to auction.... they usually check general condition inside and outside and if it sounds good at idle, start up and neutral revving....

import is another story but for vectra they shouldnt really bother about much else...

have fun trying to get the vectra to wheel spin lol

So basically, you want to thrash the car so that the next person who buys it who is possibly not as mech savvy as you buys a f***** car?

Am I the only one that finds that morally/ethically wrong?

The car will be wholesaled, if the car is not in the same condition as when inspected then the dealership has the right to reduce the amount of the trade value.

That a side, many times have I been told thw wholesaler just need to get it on the tilt tray, make it so the car drives onto the tilt tray... 30 metres or so.... they are the longest 30 you ever experience

Once I had a 318i that cooked when it was loaned out to a customer without a checkover, it made it like 2 ks from the dealership, we got sent out to drive it back they didn't want to pay for a tilt tray so it was "Drive it till it stops". Got about 1 k back then the bottom end started knocking it got louder and louder until screechhhhhhh engine locked up! So much fun to be told to drive a car till it explodes!

Cheers

That's not very honest IMO.

When you trade in the car, doesn't the dealer have to inspect the car before trade in?

Or is this for a private seller, who is willing to trade with you?

dealers in general arent interested.. when my father upgrades his, the dealer doesnt even inspect it.. just ask for details (dints, k's, etc) or has asked to email them photos and agreed to a trade-in price..

all the dealers do is round up those cars and flog them off to wholesale yards..

pretty much, especially when the car's been looked after like a child then the old owner decides to give it an absolute thrashing before selling (I've seen it happen).

I can see the temptation especially when you're gonna take it to a dealer but still, if the dockworkers in japan had done that to your ride before they put it on the boat i daresay you'd be spewing!

Maybe at 25 yo im getting too old for this sort of thing. I say give it a 2 min wash at the servo then hand it in.

What is so exciting about flogging a Vectra anyways? A month after youve dropped the car off you'll barely remember it unless you do completely stuff it.

its a POS vectra, not even worth flogging it, unless you're going to do jumps in it, it probably wont spin the tyres...

but JUMPS ftw.... unless you smash the gearbox on the ground and rape the car to pieces..

    • Welcome!  How long have you had it? And what colour is it?
    • "CAD" version 1.0 It will have a 15mm lip around the top for 6 × 5 or 6mm nutserts and fixtures (two on each of the three straight edges), and some pinch weld on any exposed edges, it has three mounting points, one of the power steering reservoir bolts, and two on the rad support, my 120mm hole saw will make short work of hole for the silicone joiner, with ample room for some pinch weld  I've also got enough Carbuilders "peel and stick" heat shield to cover the outside of it at the coolant expansion tank and on the engine side, as pictured, and internally on the lid and where the fuse box is, I've also got some thin, about 3mm, black 3M single sided sticky foam stuff that was left over after sealing some door drafts at home to help seal the lid As for the shape, it "sort of" matches the shape of the fuse box, so shouldn't look to "out of place" The lower area and hole for the intake will need pinch weld with a balloon on it to fully seal the hole and bottom of it, that will happen after it has been fabricated so I know exactly what size is required  Filter service has been trialed,  and so far it was a simple process  Just need to get some alloy, and then head into work to use the guillotine and break press in the workshop Hopefully it should be sorted in a week or two Guestimated outlay will be under a $50 for the stuff I don't have on hand (alloy, 6mm nutserts, the pinch weld, and wrinkle paint) Disclaimer: That's what the "voices in my head" are telling me how the filter box should end up getting done......lets see if they know what they are talking about
    • Have been polishing up the trailer rims as they had been sitting in the shed for a few years and are really in need of some love. This was after a couple of passes with chrome polish - coming up quite well ✅ .
    • Welcome aboard! Is your Skyline auto or manual? I'm assuming manual. Does it have any mods done yet?
    • Hey mate, the brown and grey plugs would usually go to the TPS, brown one goes on the bottom connector and grey is the top but isn't used unless the car is auto, your TPS looks different to mine though I've got a series 2 engine.
