Here we go, these are the ones I was talking about...all brand new and 08 models available for import under SEVS:

I think Nissan have done right by R35 owners to not supersede (bar minor issue fixes) the R35 with a major update model ala 350Z/370Z. Whether they mean to or not (I'm sure expense involved plays a part)...provided they don't change anything major in the next couple of years your vehicle values should remain fairly high on the second hand market. Not that you want to sell right :down:

how do you even think that argument is even slightly valid is beyond me...

the 350z was around for 7 years before the 370z came out!

Apologies, I don't think I worded that sentence very well...you can read it two ways.

What I mean is that just like the 350Z, Nissan have left / are leaving something of a gap before a major update to the R35.

for all intents and purposes it's currently impossible to import an R35 from japan for legal road use in oz. it would need to be brand new and I mean brand spanking new (bought from a dealer) BUT it would have to be an 07/08 model (ie built before nissan started selling them here). on top of that there is only one place I know of with compliance and you would need to check with them if they are still willing (or able) to comply a car for you. Nissan are very much on top of this and they will put pressure on DOTARS to have your car inspected on the wharf before it's cleared and any evidence of it being a 'used' car (ie previous owner on paperwork, any marks etc) would see it get knocked back.

I would be surprised if there are any more SEVS imports. there may be 1 or 2 more that come in that have been display stock at a dealer or something since 2007 and not been driven at all but even that is pretty unlikely.

Given this, how can they ask for a vehicle to be new? I understand that Nissan has started to sell them but the 07/08 models were approved and they should allow all vehicles in this period in. Can anyone else confirm this??

By the way Richard, I think you had a silver one - did you manage to sell it?

Because the R35 was only ever added on SEVS as a Low volume new vehicle import. A vehicle must have been released for 18mths before an application can be made for second hand imports and by the time 18mths rolled around Nissan had secured full volume import approval thus making the application to SEVS impossible.

the reason is that the r35 was added to the sevs list as "low volume NEW" as sewid said had Nissan not applied to import them in "full volume" then we would have been able to add "low volume used" 18 months after the Japanese release date. Since Nissan made the 18 month window then that's the end of that. Low volume new is the only way to bring one in for road use. Of course for personal import it can be used (can be anything the rules for PI are totally different.

Yeah I had a grey one. Sold now. I imported 2 others as well for friends. One rally use, the other low volume new. That was over a year ago now though.

Pretty sure you can only import JDM R35's with very few km's on the clock, aka new and built in 2007-08 only. second hand R35's in my understanding won't be allowed until after Nissan Australia stops selling them. Don't know the rules 100% just what I read on the boards. My understanding is second hand R35's out of Japan are only good for track cars & parts.

If we are allowed to bring in second hand JDM's built prior to 2-09 then the market will flood as soon as Nissan stops selling ADM's - hmmm, if this is true indeed than that will be a day :) . . .as far as I care they may stop selling ADM's tomorrow, no, today actually.

Prices will always hold well for a while until the numbers grow.

Look at New M3s. Couldnt get a used one under $140k but now 07/08s for $120k.

Heaps more of them available than the R35 but give it another year & I am sure there will

be plenty more 35s on the market. A percentage of new buyers will just find them too hard core

& take a loss to get into a more "comfortable" sports car (& there are plenty of them to be had)

I am glad I bought my R35 back in June. It was a gamble that paid off as I have had all this time

enjoying it on the track & on the street & it is still worth the same money today.

It has not missed a beat & now has nearly 12000kms on it. We dynoed it the other day at 333awkw

& every time I get into it I just love it.

My advise would be - dont wait. If you want one then get one. Cars will always slowly drop price but

R35 GTRs seem to hold better than most. Once you have one you probably wont want to sell it for

a long time anyway.

Depending if you are selling or buying one, everyone can thank or blame the private imports that are/were sold in the market.

I have not seen any R35 ADM's selling for $135 - 140k drive away. Remember we all did not pay $180k on road like they are now. Hence the "drop" in price. The drop you are talking about is closer to $10 - $15k off the ORIGINAL purchase price of the car. Not bad for an almost 12 month old car. I would love to only see all my new cars depreciate about 9% after the first year.

finally the voice of reason... I agree with you Rehab. These things second hand should be around the $130-140k. U can buy a new one for $165k so why are people with 5-10,000 ks still trying to get more than that? They all say never launched etc, however with nissan not letting u access the black box how do u know? check this add out on carpoint.........

my point exactly, butr after a couple of years redbook becomes useless when they start getting imaginary cheap prices so people can save on fees and stuff.... but for now since the cars are still fairly new rebook should be fairly reliable, I'd be surprised if the gtr at Rick Damelian would sell for more than $140k even though they are asking $158k, an asking price is very much different to the actual price

You will not get more than about 10k from a set of tyres due to the mild camber and the tyre compound. I got just over 8,000 with track days thrown in.

But you guys are right that something is worth only what another is willing to pay, however saying what you believe it is worth and then trying to either buy or sell for that is another thing.

Market forces are at work here....the dark evil art that it is and it will take a little more time for the buyers to either up their prices...or more than likely the sellers to drop theirs.

that logic is all good but I'm lead to believe they are more like $185K new right now, not $165K... so you're about $20K out on the 'quoted' new price.
