Generally they use it for Hondas because there is a fair difference between the JDM/USDM/NZDM/ADM versions. The JDM being the better of the lot.

For example, a USDM Integra Type R doesnt even have Recaro seats, just shitty Integra seats with Red stitching. Older generation Cam covers etc. And the Japanese facelift DC2 was the only Integra that didnt have the twin Oo oO Headlights.

And the JDM engines generally come with around 10hp more because of tune etc.

But, everyone is still correct, most people just throw it out there to try make their car sound like its better than another.

Speaking of wanky USDM hondas.... saw this in the city the other day, took a pic because I can't see the point of doing this....

You can't see it properly in the pic but the sighn on the back of the civic says "lefthand drive", got neext to it and it was a left hand drive.... WHy on earth would you bring over a civic from the states when the importing freight, taxes, compliancing ect... would easily double the price that you can buy the same car here for???? And you won't have ugly stickers on the back of the car..... bloody honda drivers and their ADM/JDM/USDM crap

I cannot believe I just found this.

roflmayo.

Great website. You'd be amazed what you might find on there.

There's very little brand bias and great diversity of cars.

JDM Style Tuning mission statement

JDM Style Tuning (JDMST) is a group of like minded individuals who share a passion for Japanese cars (JDM is short fo Japanese Domestic Market) be it Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Suzuki or Toyota. Our aim is to unite Japanese car lovers and expand their appreciation to embracing JDM culture, cars, styling and tuning.

Most of us on the forum don't need to pay more for a "race engine". Most of us, afterall have "race breed" engines from factory which is what RB stands for after all...right? :worship:(Relax, douches, I know that's not what it stands for...)

On a serious note...did anyone else get kinda lost reading this? I don't understand what being aussie has anything to do with...well...anything to do with this topic. I thought we were talking about JDM here? Not modifying a car to make it look like something from Fast and Furious. Which then would probably make it far from JDM in the first place...

I think you have a problem, perhaps, with people who "rice" their cars?

phew, thought i was going to have to open up a can of whoop-ass there

That is seriously wierd.. especially as those Coupe's only came with a D15 SOHC VTEC LOL! Not like its anything special.

To me, to say something is JDM means that it was either a product which was not sold here initially, or as an adjective to describe as above, a car modded conservatively and tastefully, but still maintaining a sense of harmony throughout the car (ie not having 20" Dolce rims on an R32, or LMGT4's on a Celsior).

Would you consider someone who modified a big sedans with smoke-stack exhausts, giant shiny wheels that have got massive camber to get them to fit, and wannabe "ground effects" kits that are almost as long as the car, to be "conservative and tasteful"? How about vans with Nipponese pop singers or cartoon characters airbrushed onto them, and similar bodykits?

It's getting funny since there are quite a few Japanese guys that are building cars that look like the SoCal "JDM" cars. Their cars don't look like the ones we're traditionally used to from watching BMI or Option, but more like the ones you see on Youtube cruising on highways with random RnB/hip hop soundtracks in the background.

I'm surprised there's not a longer line of people who were wanting to do the same, before you put that 2x4 down haha.

I do not understand this craze, everyone is always saying MAD TYPE JDM BRO on their sales and threads. It just means Japanese Domestic Market, what is so amazing about this?

This thread is so JDM

marc's from gympie. they only have 2x4's there. i was reaching for my gun

yeah but it's harder to insanely scream "RB DOES NOT STAND FOR RACE BRED" while beating the snot out of them if you just shoot them. just doesn't have the same effect

Funny you should mention that Scathing, I'm trying to remember where I was reading this, but apparently cars in Japan with anime characters etc and junk all over them are called something which loosely translates to 'stupid car' or something like that lol.

Not a fan of that or Bozosuku styling, but that's not really what a gaijin is going to think of straight away when the acronymn JDM is said.

ahahaha, i should get a "shopping list" made up but have it in japanese and just say things like

"egg

rice

seaweed"

I like this idea, you could also try:

Anal lube

Blow up sex doll

Baby oil

Wrist bandage

It would get a laugh from anyone who can read Japanese

point taken. but i wasn't shooting to kill yet

Yes, but they're stupidly Japanese. :)

Would you therefore not describe bozo or Itasha cars as "JDM" because they're not the classic "race inspired cosmetic enhanced" kind of vehicles?

I see JDM, when talking about a specific make/model of vehicle, as a model only available in the Japanese market. As for a style of modification, it refers to any type of modification that was pioneered by the Japanese car scene (whether it be "race", VIP, bosozoku, Itasha, etc) and nominally independent of the donor vehicle.

It'd be like saying that "Aussie style" modifications are only Falcodores with chopped springs running around on later model Falcodore rims, Simmons or chasers.

I also see a "JDM" car as indeed one which was only sold in Japan and not exported in the same form.

I'm going with a popular perception (which will dictate the common usage of the word in the end) versus an absolute definition which applies to all parts of Japanese car culture.

Looking at http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=jdm the most definition is perhaps the simplest and most verbatim of the lot!

I'd love some JDM input into this thread though, they would probably refer to us all as otaku :(

i want a sticker that says

"sex spec: gayer than aids"

i saw a car on carsales ages ago, a R33 GTR with 20" chrome tempe shit rims, and in the description said "mad dose bro" i laughed....

what is this world coming to?

the cops should be picking on ugly 20" wheels, not pod filters and intercoolers....
