I placed my deposit on a 1994 R33 Gts25t .....

i've been hearing how sluggish they can be from the many detractors out there and needed some affirmation? i want to know what cars not to run and what cars are a good challenge to GTS25t's

it makes me regret getting one thinking how i'm going to b beaten by so many cars out there with mild mods

cheers fellas

I recommend getting a wheels magazine and memorising a few 0-100 and 1/4 mile times for the many hundreds of cars out there. At the back there is a plethora of times/speeds for these cars.

A stock R33 is good for 6.2 sec 0-100 and a low 14 1/4 mile. U will be able to beat any base model falcon or commodore no probs. HSVs etc will be a bit more of a challenge through to the GTS where u might want to spend a few extra grand to be competitive.

To beat a WRX I believe will just come down to the driver.

Good luck

wrx = 180kw at the flywheel

r33 = 187kw at the flywheel

your have more power, but it has 4wd

if you do a good launch from 3000 you'll take a wrx, make sure you have good tyres (ones that cost $1200 all around)

From Autospeed.com.au

As you can see, Subaru's quoted 160kW flywheel figure plummets to 103kW at all four wheels on Turbo Tune's Dyno Dynamics chassis dyno. This power figure is pretty much line-ball with other MY01 WRXs tested on this same dyno - this car was in fine health. In addition to power, you can see that the air-fuel ratio is plotted on the lower part of the graph. Note that this standard car runs very rich (at least 10.0:1 AFR) at full load and mid-high rpm. Interestingly, turbo boost pressure peaked at 14 psi in the mid-range and fell to around 11.5 psi in the top-end.

I tihnk the r33 will do around 130kw at the rear wheels

Wow !!

You are about to own a Skyline R33 GTSt and you think that you are gonna be owned wherever you go ?? I don't believe it !

The only thing that you have to worry about is keeping traction with any decent R33 (and I don't believe that there are any indecent ones out there).

What I would have given to have a vehicle that was head and shoulders above nearly anything else on the road when I was your age.

Come on, Turbo 2.5l DOHC 6 cyl with 4WS is going to be beaten by ? ..............

El Bee

thanx for all the comments guys and girls?

yeh its jus my frenz all have cars which seem to have greater power to weight ratios and i think it may jus be jealousy everyone is like "u coulda got a Twin Turbo supra, a WRX, a well modded 200sx" etc ....

but yeh R33 was of personal choice its nice and comfy for long trips yet has the speed for traffic light grand prix hehe

cheers all!

I don't find mine sluggish either - it's got more room than a twin turbo supra (yes, it's a four door), is more fun to drift than a wrx, fair bit more power than a similarly modded 200sx.

The mods you'd have to do put a 200sx into the low 13's is enough to put an R33 into the 12's - though that's much more to drag racing than sheer power.

Forget all the power figures and crap like that, I believe its 75% driver and 25% car. Sure a 300rwkw GST-T is certainly going to do some damage but only if the driver behind the wheel is up to the challenge.

Don't go thinking that just coz you got an r33 your king of the road otherwise you will have your arse handed to you on a plate.

By spending about $2,000 on your r33 just for basic mods (pod filter, exhaust, boost) you will increase the power by a good 20%.

I agree 100% with Benm.

Driver skill is more of a factor than most people know.

Even if car A is a full second quicker too 100km/h than car B. And if car A has an inexperianced driver then car B will always win...

One thing for sure though, and that is that the R33 GTS-t's respond very well to a 3 inch exhaust and 10-12psi of boost.

Just some vague figures to back up my above message:

Eastern Creek:

Car A = 1:56's

Car B = 2:05's

Car C = 2:17's

Driver A = Most experience

Driver B = Intermediate experience

Driver C = Least experience

Car A = Least power

Car B = Middle power

Car C = Most power

The end result is the driver with the most experience was a loooooong way ahead simply because he -really- knows how to drive the car to the fullest.

Not most of the time. an s13/14/15 with the same mods as an r33 will nearly always beat the r33 with ease in a drag off the line, its a much lighter car to start with, so mods have more effect.

who cares if u win or lose, it an experience that everyones goes through. Some are fun and some are just plain woeful. but yes, learn how to drive it first expecially launch techs. go out west somewhere with fresh tyres and new clutch and u come back knowing exactly where the r33 is strongest. U can actually beat faster cars if u know how to pedal it.

"u coulda got a Twin Turbo supra, a WRX, a well modded 200sx"

what crack head told u this? twin turbo supra? what a 1986 one? :) a wrx has less power than r33. modded 200sx, personal preference i guess, i'd prefer 33 anyday

r33 is much better choice

what cars do your friends drive who gave you these comments?

you wont beat

xr6 turbo's

v8 ute's

modded s13's (too light)

modded r32's (too light)

you will beat

integra's

preludes

civics

vl turbos

type r's

gemini's

vb-vx commodores v6/v8's (autos)

a v8 manual vs-vt-vx commodore may be a diff story

lancers

lancer gsrs (the old ones)

wrx's (youll need a good launch and good tyres)

any v6 falcon, including the xr6 (non turbo) except the BA, i think the BA xr6 (non turbo one) has same base flywheel figures as r33 gtst

a whole heap of other shit cars

pretty much any non turbo you will beat

im yet to see a non turbo beat me

ones to watch out for a v8 ute's and v8 sedans 5speed

cars in the hsv range will need some good mods on your behalf to win, unless its an hsv auto (do they come in auto?)

dont drag in 60/80 zones its stupid and youll just loose your licence or get axed for doiing 30km/h over the split

redline 1st and 2nd and your already doing 20-30 odd over the limit in a 70 zone = licence lost instant

redline 3rd will get you to about 150-160odd

4th redline = ???

5th redline = ???

stock gtst is speed limited to 180 by the computer, $150 odd to get it removed if you want. well all jap imports are speed limited to 180km/h, not just cos the speedo shows it, but its limited by the ecu. i think a fuel cut/rev limit activiates when u click 180km/h

oh btw

my "you wont beat" vs "you will beat" are stock cars vs your stock gtst too btw, well for comparison reasons anyway

once you start mods vs mods its just a modding war

you can get a vl turbo to run 8 seconds quaters and yeah it will beat you, mind you its a 1896 vs 1994

id prefer looks/features/style/functionatly/engineering of the r33

so when old crap cars modded like hoes beat you, so be it, their older shit ones :)

Just remember u will be driving a Nissan. Nissans are very reliable and beautifully engineered cars at a good price.

My R33 GTS25t is stock as a rock, but if i launch it right it takes off like a bullet and is definately capable of beating a stock WRX.

You won't be disappointed. Ive had my car for 2 months now and its made driving something to look forward to again. When I think about climbing aboard I get a dumb grin on my face.

The RB25DET is capable of producing virtually double its standard Horsepower with the right mods and stock engine internals. Thats impressive.

These cars are capable of 13 sec 1/4 mile with a few good mods (and faster with more...)

They also look much betta than any falcodore (monaro included), wrx, nearly all other jap cars with a standout exception in my eyes being the S15 - they are a beatiful car - Nissans also.

Cant go wrong with Nissan.
