Took my rb30 in for a tune today and on the second run the check engine light came up.

I dont have an oil pressure gauge on the car so we put on one and its showing no oil pressure at all. The tuner said he didnt hear any knocking noises what so ever and typically with a big end there will be pressure.

We are thinking perhaps the crank collar is slipping inside the oil pump (rb30 crank with collar and 33 gtr pump) or perhaps the oil pickup has rattled loose?

Have yet to go and get the car and rip it to bits, but would be keen to get any ideas?

Thanks

smashed the oil pump gear by the sounds of it.

Get an oil test done and you should get high PQ levels which would indicate ferrous material in the oil other than bearings.

Obviously high levels of copper and lead will indicate bearing failure as a result of this.

Wear Check Australia are the people to call for the test kits, cost about $35-40 and takes a few days to get the results.

Don't dump the oil out of it until the test sample is taken

Thanks for the reply. Im in New Zealand so have no idea where i would do this. What is wrong with taking off the sump to check and what is likely to have happened to my engine if this is the case? Is it a case of throwing in new big ends fixing the oil pump and collar etc and going again from there??? If the gear is cracked will this cause no oil pressure at all?

The engine was rebuilt a max of 2000kms ago with a new crank collar and 33gtr oil pump so im quite suprised this may be the issue. Keen to ideas though so thanks heaps.

Would a seal cause no pressure at all????? Sounds unlikely but will let you know.

Where you would do this? I just told you the name of the place to get it from.

You can pull the sump off and do all the rest of it if you like but oil tests tell you what has gone wrong, how bad it is and whether you need to buy bearings etc or just another oil pump.

If the engine was at full load and the gear smashed (not cracked), then the bearings are likely to be stuffed also, if the crank has been damaged, you can't just throw new bearings on it and away you go.

If it's an N1 pump then it's even more likely that the gear has smashed. I would go back and see your engine builder before you do anything else. If you start pulling shit apart, say goodbye to any warranty they might give you.

If the collar wasn't install correctly, then you have other issues...like having to buy a new crank

No a leaking seal will not cause 0 oil pressure and the pickup design is the same throughout all RB's so I doubt it would be that. It's not a pressure side anyway so there is minimal sealing needed by it in the first place.
