The only ethanol blend i have seen around here is E10 which is only 92 octane, if your car is a turbo you should not be using anything less than 95 and should actually be using 98.

I did fill the fairlane with E10 the other day, used half a tank and have not noticed any difference.

E10 at...

1) Mobil = 93.5 RON

2) Caltex = 93.5

3) Shell = 93.5

4) BP = 92

4) Liberty/Prime = 95

All of the above is what they rate at point of sale only.

I would stick to 95 or higher only = Premium or above with a GTST (or any of my cars)

i use united e10 95 octane in the pulsar and it has never missed a beat, but it isn't turbo.

i'm pretty sure that the shell v-max racing 100 octane is an ethanol blend (98 octane with 5% ethanol which brings it up to 100 octane) and people have been using it without issues. and there are people running on e85 with good results too. although this requires a complete retune

other than the premium 95 which is specificly for older cars all BP fuel has ethanol including ultimate (which alot of you no doubt use). ethanol being water soluble also hides water in the fuel more, which is your only real worry not the ethanol itself. and allows PB to save money by watering down fuel easier. having said that i use ultimate cause out here its the only option, and my car loves it.

on another vaguely related note. I've been told by marine mechanics never to use any BP fuel in a 2 stroke engine as the water content is far to high.

I thought V power racing got discontinued back in August 08? Has it come back? I havent seen it anywhere (Not in Sydney atleast)

for some reason my old VN 5 litre absolutely hated United Plus ULP or Boost 98 (wouldn't start properly), but my R32 dosen't seem to mind, but then the Shell across the river sells 98 for the same price as Boost 98 so it's a matter of which one is closer usually. When you have 18L/100 fuel consumption you don't really want to exacerbate it with ethanol fuel though.

My GF's Datsun 1200 has been using Plus ULP for at least the past 30 000km, with no problems at all, apart from needing the valve stem seals replaced (which was probably due to one of the previous owners not using Flashlube with the fuel)

yeah some cars like it others dont, my dads brand new 4 litre petrol navara hates 98 octane of any sort ethanol or not. just runs like crap and thirst. mind you 6 gears 200kw, and 2 tonnes can get thirsty anyways

you can use regular unleaded on a turbo car if you want to rebuild it every few months and make less power than running it on premium.

you have to run it on premium. and 98 octane is what you ideally need to run it on. you could get away with 95 octane but i wouldn't do it unless you retard the timing to prevent detonation, which results in less power.

So does everyone here you premium for turbos?

Does anyone use regular unleaded?

More specifically, anyone with R34 GTT? What do you recommend.

I only once used 95 when 98 was not available and even then only chucked in $20 worth to get me to a servo that did have 98.

I've used E10 on my N14 Pulsar (NA) without any problems, but prefer to use regular unleaded as it seems to get more K's out of it. A couple of people I know have had bad experiences using E10 with older cars (pre-1990), most likely same reason as mad082 pointed out.

As for my R33 I always use 98 octane, preferably Shell V Power

If you start using ethanol blend, plan on changing your fuel filter after a few tanks as it does tend to clean up crap from your fuel system.

Iv been running Mobil 98 with 10% Ethanol in my R33 GTSt for a far while now. Seems to like it. Plus i like the smell.. haha.

Didnt notice a difference really in power. Maybe just slightly worse economy when carrying 4 people long distance. But its hard to tell for sure.

The fuel filter idea is actually quite smart. I got a large surge the other day, like the car lost everything. bout 3000rpm in 2nd, off boost. I wonder if the fuel got temporarily snagged.. Has happened 2-3 times in the 12 or so months i been using Mobil 98 10%. Worth a shot changing it i guess.
