This could be good. I had an RMR30 that I must confess I neglected and the Auto conked out at 600. Of course it was only an L24E. But at least the auto matched the engine. I am hoping the S1 will give, say, 75%. I would be happy as a cop in shit.

I am looking at some mods to prolong The S1 life.

Not exactly the same, I know, but my r31 (rb30e) had done over 500,000 kays when I sold it, 300,000 of that in my hands, never used oil, never missed a beat except corroded plug on CAS, ($20 fix).

RB's are built with extremely accurate tolerances. Also the crank girdle gives a very stiff block structure which can only help as power increases. As such, moderately powered examples that are not revved constantly within an inch of their lives are a very long lived proposition.

A C34 will rust doors away before the drive line gives out. My parents' VL clocked up ~430k before it got written off, my Stag is at 120k and I expect another 200k out of it before I think about rebuilding the motor. The turbocharger should last just as long if it's given clean air and clean oil. My L28ET is at about 300K and is being retired in the quest for more HP, not because it's stuffed...

Mine was in excellent condition at 134,000 k's... then I put some coarse grit blasting compound in the oil and drove it for a couple of thousand and it was *still* going strong. Decided to rebuild to be safe :D

Mine has 138,000 and i bought it to years ago and it had 60,000. Ive started towing a trailer with about a tonne of weight everyday about 7months ago and it tows well. never cost me any serious money yet. Service every 5000km, although my realese bearing is realy noisy ive never had any dramas "touch wood". Thats just routine maintenence.

I know its not a 25 but... I have witnessed a RB30ET (Factory Turbo VL not a +T)

on the dyno with a genuine 600,000 + Kms on the clock.

Only on the dyno to check everything still looking healthy.

The owner had only replaced the injectors and AFM in its time,

with general maintenance of course.

Aren't turbos a maintenance item at 100k km?

Also, we need to remember that some members cars km's won't be genuine...

IMO, 'Factory' Turbos are abit of a 'luck of the draw'. Ive heard of RB turbos letting go (seals, wheels etc) at a

very early age/Milage and others doing 200k + km's.

The MOST common problem I've come across with mine and several other friends turbos, are the

'Manifold to Turbo' gasket. Generally its just the Nuts coming loose and just need a nip up. The 'Turbo tabs'

do a mighty good job at preventing any further implications. When the nuts loosen, a strange 'whistle/whine'

can be heard very clearly when under full song. My conclusion on the problem is poor maintenance regarding

the exhaust mounts/design etc. Just swinging around hanging all its weight on the back of the turbo can

be harmful.

Regarding the 'Genuine' KM's... I got mine a month after coming off the docks with 48,***kms. I wouldnt

be suprised in the slightest if they were wound back or tampered with in some way. Abit too good/unbelievable to be true... ;)

This is true for the M35 but not sure about the C34. The M35's have a similar turbo but run slightly higher boost (11.7psi for RS/RX and 15? for ARX) so presumably this would have an effect on the lifespan of the turbo.

Mine has now done nearly 110,000 and the turbo still appears to be going strong (completely stock). Fingers crossed.

So far the only actual diagnosed "fault" has been the throttle body getting clogged up making the butterfly a bit sticky - which caused it to stall occasionally. I cleaned it out myself, carried out the idle-relearn procedure (see the DIY/howto thread at the top of the stagea section) and it was all fixed.

The kms on my M35 stagea are more than likely genuine since I imported it through someone I know and trust, and who has been dealing with the same agents in japan for years.

My last stagea was a series 2 which I bought from a dealer on the Gold Coast. 28000kms for a 1999 model seemed a bit too far fetched - however it did go all the way to 100,000km without the timing belt breaking so either they changed it before I got it, or it had really done somewhere around 128,000km. Interior condition was very good - however there was a slight oil leak from the rocker cover.... That stagea proved to be pretty reliable although it did have a cracked exhaust manifold and suspect turbo, both which needed replacing. One of the shock absorbers also needed replacing - which was done under dealer warranty. Other than these initial problems (which existed when I bought the car), I really had no major issues at all in the 2 years I owned the car.
