Hi all, I'm new to the forum (and RB'S) and looking for a bit of advice. My RB30det basically lost all oil pressure yesterday. I thought it might be something to do with the factory gauge or sender so I hooked up a pivot gauge and it read 2 bar on start up dropping to under 1 bar when it warms up and the motor sounds noisy and starved of oil with revs. As I bought the car with the conversion done I'm unsure what oil pump its running. Do you have to use the turbo oil pump when using non turbo bottom end? Im not sure whether to replace the pump or just throw another lowish km bottom end in? Last owner claimed that the bottom end was rebuilt to stock specs 1000km before I bought it and the oil pump gasket looks spankers but you never know when buying somone elses project. Any help or advice really appreciated.

Cheers

Is this the pressure you see at idle? If so, what do you see at middling rpm ie. 2500 - 4500rpm?

Also out of curiosity what type/grade of oil are you running, and do you know what was done to the oiling system during the build eg. changes to top end restrictor/s?

Hey mate, yeah thats the pressure at idle and it wont go much over 2 bar even at 4000rpm. Im unsure what has been done to the oiling system and can't get hold of the old owner! I'm running penrite hpr 30.

2 bar is too low for 4000, should be closer to 4 bar........yep you have a problem.

If you've run with that sort of OP then you've probably stuffed the bottom end. It will need a full rebuild. I'd say the oil pump either didn't have the extended collar on the crank or wasn't up to the task.

Do you think its worth rebuilding or just putting another stock bottom end in?
