I still have a major question mark over RBR with their tyre strategy.

When Button lit up the timing screens with fastest sector times RBR should have pulled in one of their two drivers to cover.

They claim that the car was working alright on the inters but seriously....

Button was lucky, I was surprised he went so well on the slicks. I've seen so many bugger up that call, and with more rain in the area it could have seriously bitten him on the arse. Nonetheless I would have thought as soon as someone sets a purple sector on slicks, you should call in both drivers, even queue them if necessary. Tyre stops are so quick now Webber might have been better off following Vettel into the lane. Better still would have been pitting a lap before ... :)

Watching the race again now, was at the track now I'm watching the broadcast. Just saw my favourite moment of the race - Lucas di Grassi in a Virgin carving up Der Weltmeister, in front of a banner proclaiming his imminent 8th title ...

If it bwasnt for Webs anf Homoton then it would have been a snorefest. Even with the variable weather. Schuey has some work to do

agreed. webber passed massa 3 bloody times! poor strategy and a few little fkups cost him any chance of a good finish.

Lewis showed amazing skill and judgement when he drove right up the ass of Alonso in was it Bahrain in 2008? To the point where everyone was screaming murder and Alonso had brake tested Lewis....only when Alonso said rubbish and pulled the data it showed that Lewis was jsut a retard who drove straight into the back of a car he was following on a straight, wasnt even under brakes. As others have said, driving into the back of a car in pitlane!

I love how people are attacking Webber. Two of the last WDCs drive into people all the time. Remember Kimi punting Force Indias and STRs for sport. The second move today was clumsy, but thats what happens when two cars lose mid corner speed and you lose front aero. I watched the ESPN coverage which has Alex Yoong and Gary Anderson...as opposed to the BBC coverage the commentary is nowhere near as biased...and they both claimed racing incident. They actually said the earlier braking dual was silly by Webber being on the inside slippery line and soudl have known to give up the fight in the interest of not compromising his overall race strategy . But the clash was a straight up racing incident. Gary Anderson actually said Webber had to run the risk of crowding himself with Alonso and Hamilton...two laps to go and everything to gain...hero or zero time and was just one of those things.

couldn't agree more. webber is no worse than any of the guys who get applauded for having the 'balls' to try the shifty moves. sometimes they pay off, sometimes they don't. I've never seen him do anything really bad though like vettel rear ending him that time in japan under safety car, or farking lewis driving into the back of alonso or the time kimi got nurfed sitting at the red light in pit lane...

yeah really it was hamilton who fked HIS move which then meant webber arrived there a bit hot with cars where he hadn't expected them, lost front downforce, had no chance of turning in and no where to go. and he came off the worse of the two as well...

Secondly, did Lewis stumble across a deamon front wing tweak after damaging it in that awesome overtaking manouver? Whats the best the McLaren aero guys kinda wandered off tto the back of the pits after Lewis was so quick with "damage".

I was thinking the same thing! the mac looked glued to the track with his front wing flapping around... hmm active aero anyone? deformable wing structure. it certainly wasn't costing him any pace. I thought for sure he'd have to pit to fix it when that big chunk flew off and it started flexing but it certainly didn't cost him... he might have to wipe bits of his wing off on other cars at every race.

Turns out Webber does have a redeeming feature; He's described Victoria as a 'nanny-state'

I know, I saw it in the SMH today. finally someone has the balls to say it like it is. I mean an F1 driver doing a little smoke show for the fans at the exit to an F1 track. really who gives a shit. does that really warrant confiscating the car (not like it affects lewis at all) and fining the bloke and f**king him around for a few hours? I don't think so. Surely there was some ACTUAL CRIMES being committed somewhere they could have been attending to in that time...

yeah the strategy was a bit lame. I knew webber was fked when they bought in vettel and made webs stay out another lap. still that's what you get for not taking pole mark. had he been in front he could have made the call.

am I the only one who thought it pretty good webber was able to pass massa etc. I'm surprised the RBR can pass anyone given how far down they are on straight line speed.

good to see webber get the fastest lap too. well done.

oh, and I cleaned up nicely on button. I put some dough on him at odds of 13:1. I thought at that money he was a good bet. still a very lucky result for him. sadly I had some cash on webber too, but my button win more than covers that lot. :)

come on now, the police are trying to promote safety. That maniac had no control of the vehicle while doing the burnout, it was all about everyone's safety... it has nothing to do with publicity or money, that hoon could have killed someone.

speed was a factor.

Hamilton clipped Massa (think it was Massa) when he passed him on the straight, hence the f**ked wing. Good judgement..

All in all a great recovery and result for Ferrari...Alonso did well to get back up to the pointy end after getting knocked to the back so early...

Bring on the next one

can't ask for much better than a 4-day week followed by back-to-back races with a XXL weekend

wonder what parts of Seb's car will explode/fall off/expire/forget their job description/etcetera for round 3?..

hehe, at least no-one can say Mark is the unluckiest man in F1 anymore

It seems like Massa is the forgotten driver at the moment, so much hype around Alonso I guess! Not a lot has been said about him, but I think he should hold his head high with two podiums in the first two races. Good luck to him.

And maybe "HRT" should give Garth Tander a drive. He might have a bit more success than Chandhok

    • The hot exhaust light will come on not from just the cat being blocked, but it's just a temp sensor, and it's designed to warn you to not do things like park in long grass.   If you've been pushing the motor a bit, it can cause the light to come on.   Second if the cat is rattling, I'd suspect it's not blocked, but instead falling apart inside.   The easiest "fix" until you can get a cat put back in, is to unbolt your one, bash the rest of the insides out, and then bolt it back in.   For a daily driver/street car, I am in agreeance of put a cat in the car. If it were race car I wouldn't care if it were removed.
    • No worries at all 🫡 I think the most satisfying things to make are the little bits that are just impossible to find or they're no longer manufactured. Generally I always try to replace parts with OEM wherever possible. This little project is also great because it'll never see the light of day, but strengthen these brackets so it's not just relying on the little standard screws in the headlight plastic. As soon as I saw the standard brackets and screws I thought, "well I'm not going to install with just the screws, the plastic tabs will just snap off". It's crazy how expensive everything has become yeah. But I suppose that's supply and demand; granted it's a lot easier to get brand new genuine parts these days which is fantastic 😊, I don't have to get totally reamed at the local Nissan dealer ha ha We sure are lucky we have all these manufacturers making parts these days, a few really great Australian companies too like Platinum Racing Products and Fit Mint Automotive, what a time to be alive ❤️ . I've got my eye on the RB26 head by PRP as mine has a very fine hairline crack, so that'll need to be addressed some time in the future. If you have any requests or odd things to make feel free to let me know and I can have a crack at making replacement parts ✌️
    • Thanks for sharing this, and BTW if your headlights are in good condition they are worth thousands....you might want to consider replacing them with brand new LED ones like this (https://www.nengun.com/78works/full-led-headlights-r32-skyline) and making enough profit to buy a house in Sydney
    • I'm not sure what sort of shops are nearby, but I'd expect any reasonable exhaust shop could put a cat in it that will not restrict the power that engine makes. Otherwise, if you want to remove it, short lengths that replace the cat are readily available online, search for "de-cat pipes" or "test pipes"
    • Howdy friends, So another weird one today, I was looking into replacing some broken clips holding the front grille for the R32 GTR (part number 01553-03831), and noticed the brackets which are supposed to hold the grille in place were also missing 😑. I do recall seeing this issue many years ago, but didn't fix it at the time. A quick look on eBay and I was able to find the genuine brackets, along with all the screws which suited the headlights (part numbers 26042-08U05,26092-08U05). Happy days!....  Once they arrived however there was an extra nut in the packaging which implied that there should also be a bolt or a stud, and sure enough, after a bit of searching I found this thread from 2013, and @Ants clearly shows a stud should be present. Reading around a bit more, it's possible the headlights on my car are the "povo pack" headlights as mentioned by @funkymonkey in this thread way back in 2008. This could explain why the studs are missing on my set of headlights. Looking at the headlight diagram I wasn't able to see a suitable part number for the stud itself. The headlight did indeed have a recess that looked like it would accept a stud, but interestingly no thread or anything obvious how the stud would be affixed to the headlight, I suspect it may have been glued in, press fit, or melted into the plastic at the factory. Another member may be able to clarify if they happen to have a genuine set of N1 headlamps. The only thing we have to work with within the recess is a keyway which likely is there to prevent the stud from rotating within the recess. In any case, back to 3D printing, I put together a model which acts like a pug with a friction fit inside this recess, making use of the keyway so it doesn't rotate while tightening a bolt. Printing in TPU will allow it to slightly swell making a nice snug fit without cracking the part. I've designed the adaptor it to accept an 20 mm M6 bolt (stainless with a cap head in my case), as opposed to the standard M5 stud and I made use of the standard galvanised split washer that came with the genuine brackets from Nissan. Once the bolt and screws were all in place, giving the bracket a gentle shake gave the classic "shaking the car" feeling, very solid, which gives me confidence this is going to be able to hold on much better than the janky solution which seems to have been here for the past decade or so. Overall I'm really pleased with how this turned out and maybe there are more people out there running these headlights without a centre stud at all!
