djr81
The braking zone isn't brought to question, as you said, the event occurred no where near the braking zone. However, Hamilton's reckless weaving prevented Petrov from making ANY move and deprived him of any 'safe' opportunity to overtake, what was hazardous that the cars were accelerating rapidly and at that point of the straight they would still have been going awfully fast, and as such, a prang between the two could have been potentially horrendous. Imagine if every leading car weaved like Hamo did? Chaos would ensue, and there would be some almighty pile-ups, it would be little more than open-wheeler F1 NASCAR.. That is one thing I NEVER want to see.At worst a little cheeky?? You've got to be kidding! If Petrov had called the bluff and sailed up next to Hamo, only for them to have collided, I wonder if you'd be saying the same thing??? Weaving on the striaght to break a tow has been going on for a very long time. It is quite different from moving about in the braking zone to make overtaking difficult. It was not dangerous to Petrov simply because he wasn't up alongside Hamilton. He was behind him - in the tow. Hamilton cleaned up his act by the braking zone - where Petrov nailed him anyway. It is actually an indictment on the state of F1 where a driver using an age old tactic is warned is such a pointless manner. There was nothing reckless, or even wrong, with it. Duncan
totally disagree. particularly as I was forced off the main straight at oran park once by someone who had watch one too many tv shows. dirt + 200+ = very bad. and these guys are going 300. It is super dangerous, and even if not its about the height of bad sportsmanship. no point saying the guy won't have got past, homo can't have been that sure about relative speeds and he did get by with the same move the lap before. no way homo would have been playing around unless he thought he was a chance of being taken. nismoman
I saw a 60 minutes interview on channel 9 a couple of weeks back, and they showed Webber and his old age missus. Think she is something like 14yrs older? Anyway, they asked him if he pays any attention to all the hot grid girls and chicks at the GP's and he says something like "Oh you can look and admire, nothing wrong with that" and the interviewer then asks "so it's all looking and no touching?" Webber replies "Absolutely" and then rubs his nose and scratches his face and looks down and away!!! If you can read the simplest form of body language, it was a total lie!!! He may as well have said "bullshit" under his breath afterwards. Like *cough* bullshit *cough* Plus his missus was looking not impressed. Well I can't argue with your Oran Park thing but I would suggest the straight at Sepang is a little bit wider. My frustration is that these days when anything half interesting happens or it half looks like a driver showing a bit of race craft/interest the FIA jumps all over it & the story becomes one of fines/sanctions/warnings, instead of about racing. If you take all the bullsh!t the FIA/stewards have been involved in out of F1 in the last few years there is really precious little in the way of highlights. We now have these god awful ugly cars with all their parameters supposedly set up so they can overtake & it is now worse than ever. Atleast Lotus outqualified Ferrari & McLaren. nismoman
But if the purpose of Hamilton's weaving was to break the tow and if everyone adopted the same technique, you would have no drafting and definitely no overtaking at the end of the straight! You complain about lack of overtaking, but Hamilton's weaving will see less overtaking. Nor is the answer to the lack of overtaking to make the bloke in front responsible for letting everyone through. Homo (or anyone else in that position) should be making it as hard as possible (Within the rules, obviously) for the bloke behind. That is his job, afterall. Remember Hamilton didn't just invent weaving on the straight. It isn't terribly effective, anyway. BezerkR32
FUNNY THAT, My missus was asking what the go is there also. probably so he can concentrate on racing......we saw what a hot missus did to homos season last year. If you take all the bullsh!t the FIA/stewards have been involved in out of F1 in the last few years there is really precious little in the way of highlights. Hhmmm, obviously your definition of racecraft and mine are totally different. Senna at Monaco in the toleman 1984 = Racecraft. Senna Monaco quali 1988 = Racecraft. Senna at Donnington 1993 = Racecraft. Schumi finishing 2nd at the Spanish GP in 94 with only 5th gear = Racecraft. Schumi 1996 Spanish GP = Racecraft. Sebvet at the 2008 Italian GP, winning in a Toro Rosso = Racecraft. In terms of overtakes, strictly speaking. Mika on Schu, Spa 2000 = Racecraft (and balls). Hamo's display at Sepang = B*LLSH*T!!!!!!!!! I'll quote some drivers for that matter: The newspaper also quoted Ferrari test driver Marc Gene as describing Hamilton's driving as "wrong", while Virgin tester Andy Soucek said the Briton should have penalised "absolutely, without any doubt".Former Super Aguri driver Anthony Davidson told BBC radio: "I don't know what Lewis was doing, weaving all over the track. I think he thought he was playing a Playstation rather than real life." I ask you this, imagine if EVERY passing attempt was met with such amateurish weaving?? The track would be utter madness, and no overtaking would actually occur, for fear of initiating a massive prang. That was not racecraft, anyone that has either raced or has followed it long enough knows that. 1 and 1/2 moves (one defensive move and a half move to partially get back onto the racing line) and that is that. Braking zone or not, I hope I never see that cr@p again, by Loulou or anyone else on that note.
