I cant see RBR havign any advantage at Monaco, its such a low speed circuit. I hope RBR can still get in the top 4

yeah but if webber can put a jaguar on the front row at monaco surely he can get the RBR there even with it's puny renault engine? come on troy, don't loose the faith now. webber is a king (prince?) at monaco! he had his first podium there too in the williams from memory? if I was a commentator I might even say he was a 'monaco specialist' whatever that means...

Hamilton got fastest lap, Rich

thanks. :P I had a feeling hamo had got it towards then end. of course the itv numb nut proclaimed that webber had 'taken the trifecta of pole/win/fastest lap'.... webber apparently second fastest though, and he had set fastest lap a shitload of times to that point. :P

yeah it is interesting that ITV had speculated early in that stint that by going out too hard early on he would reduce the tyre life/performance. but punctures are such hit and miss things. he could have picked up a small piece of debris or perhaps there was a small imperfection in the tyre construction or perhaps he did cause it himself by overworking the tyres. It could be anything really. It's impossible to blame him or exonerate him for that matter. It's just one of those things.

looked like it broke something in the suspension before the tyre let go. i watched the super slow-mo and you see the front left hand corner drop and wobble and then the tyre goes. comentary didnt pick it up, but they seem to miss alot lol.

only 3 points from 1st to 3rd in the Constructors Championship now.

correction: 6 point spread from 1st to 3rd

still, the sort of thing that bodes well for this season possibly going right down to the wire...

Awesome race for Webber! Thoroughly deserved victory. Shame for Hamilton though, he did very well at keeping Vettel at bay, just to have his tyre f**k up :P

As much as I like some of the back markers (Senna, Chandhok) etc., they are going to cause MASSIVE dramas when it comes to a track like Monaco. That incident with the Virgin on turn 1 was very hairy, and pretty lucky that nothing worse had happened. The thing is where do you draw the line? You can introduce the 107% rule (is that the right percentage? lol), but it doesn't really help the new teams with development of their cars at all. Or they could just get Mercedes engines and piss those Cosworth boat anchors out?

its a fair call, i think nascar has a percentage of lap time you have to be inside. there are definate safety issues. but mercedes were also over a minute off the race pace which is huge, but 20 secs a lap is dangerous.

Webber to Ferrari, ITS OFFICIAL!!!! Well kind of a maybe , possibility, if you believe what James Allen is saying...

Domenicali, talking about the dominance of the Red Bull he said, “They did a good step, but in all honesty today we saw the performance of Mark Webber, so we need to keep that as a reference on our side.”

Discussing Massa replacements further...

Kubica is certainly one option, but I wonder whether Webber might be another. This quote along with a few other things I heard privately in the last few weeks make me wonder whether Ferrari is tracking Webber as a possible candidate for Alonso’s team mate. It’s not an obvious fit, in marketing terms Australia isn’t much use for Ferrari or FIAT, but Alonso and Webber go back a long way to their Renault days and there is a lot of respect there

An early start to the silly season

don't tease me roy! god that would be good. an interesting choice but not without some merit. I mean webber is certainly a big enough 'name' in F1 now having won races and been in the sport for a long time. plus these days you have to look pretty hard to find a team mate that can keep up with alonso and not get all messed up by his mind games and nasty tactics. webber is probably one of the drivers would could deal with it and perhaps with having been previous team mates they would even get along?!? I would love to see it.

Actually Monaco could well be RBR's best track. They've been doing very well this year despite a top speed deficit on most tracks.

James Allen, as usual, is talking through his bottom-cheeks. I'm not willing to stick my neck out and deny it's possible, but I can't see it happening. Webber is realistically in his final few years as a driver. I can't see him going past 2013-2014. If Ferrari just want a good driver for a couple of years he's a good choice, he's got proven consistency and race-winning ability, but if they're looking for a long-term prospect they'll probably go with Kubica, Vettel or even Sutil.

Vettel at Scuderia Ferrari I could see. But can you imagine the rivalry between him and Alonso? Neither would give any slack whatsoever

The day after Webber's win they were bagging him on Triple M (I know, zero credibility, but anyway) as an "Aussie sportsman we love to hate". Not quite sure why. He might be a bit stiff at times but the man's got a sense of humour and is totally committed to his cause.

    • Tape some wool onto the vent then take it for a drive I did this to my reverse cowl and was instantly unhappy, as anything over about 60kph would have the wool enter the engine bay, thus just adding underbonnet pressure and stooging my coolant stack, it did let alot of heat out when stationary though, which really didn't help once the car was moving, with the reverse cowl you could watch the coolant temps cheap up the faster you went on the hwy, I assume it would be alot worse doing track day speed With the vented bonnet (just after the radiator and about 1/3 up the bonnet) on my old R33 the wool on the leading edge sat at about a 45° angle as air poured out of it From looking where your vents are, and their size, I believe you should be fine at speed and air should be evacuated from the engine bay, I think it will be a night and day difference when stuck in traffic though for removing the trapped heat, and not sitting there cooking when parked up after driving around... #convection  Post wool tuft pics and data for science  This beastie is one nice and unique rig, enjoy
    • It is possible to do this stuff for "cheap". But you need to be able to get deals on all the bigger items, and it really helps if you're fully capable of doing your own work. As soon as you're paying retail for new parts, or buying "kits" because you can't fabricate necessary bits and pieces, and if you really need someone else to take the reins of doing the work because you don't have the space/time/skills/confidence to  rip deep into the car and put it back together in a working fashions.....then you pay. And these days, pay means a lot of money. You'd think things would get cheaper, but they don't. They just seem to keep getting more and more expensive.
    • It’s almost the price of an engine build, you won’t have anything to bolt onto it though
    • Hopefully it's enough to help with the temps! I was also only shit stirring, regarding Murphy's Law basically. I've found, what ever spare parts I have, are the parts I don't break. Ever. Also have never had issues with oil/spinning bearings until I put oil pressure gauges on the car. 😛
