Personally, I am amzed there aren't more calls of "that was Sennaesque" driving by Vettel.

3 GPs ago, RBR looked as though they were going to be untouchanble at the sphincter of the universe and Silverstone. Doesnt appear to be the case, and it seems Mark is expected to leave the door open for Seb as was the case in Malaysia.

Re Helmut Mark, what does being the motorsport advisor to Red Bull mean? Is he the talent scout for the young drivers?

...oh, and after the race Mark has said "Well that was a f**king disaster!" Wish he pulled that one out in the press conference :D

Frame by frame.

Nice frame by frame; it's also fairly obvious what happened when looking at the footage from Webber's RB6 POV, the distance between his left front and the white line does not change, until he gets sideswiped.

Hope Mark goes onto win more races now and completely wipes the floor with Vettel and his cry baby antics!

Agreed.

He can take "Luscious Liz" "Randy Mandy" and "Orgasmic Oprah" to task for braking down on him as often as he likes, but we're not seeing the same issues with Mark's car, so there are a few possibilities:

1) Vettel's race preparation is faulty

2) Vettel is harder on his car than Mark

3) Vettel's race engineer isn't as good as Mark's

4) Vettel is now on track to become "The unluckiest man in F1"

5) Mark is going into the garage at night and laying his size tens into Mandy like a corrupt cop shaking down a crim.

Vettel crashing into Webber and taking himself out is the best thing that could have happened to Mark...Webbers lucky Vettel didn't stick the pass, because he did have him beat, and would've taken the points from Webber and led the championship..

Senna wouldn't have caused a crash. Unless of course you're talking the Bruno variety.

I truly hope he wins the world championship and retires. Then I'd suggest he walk through pit lane and punch everyone he considers a wanker fair in the mouth and heads home for a month of celebrations :D

He will punching wankers for the rest of his life if he comes back home.

Everyone from OneHD/BBC blaming Vettel 100% EXCEPT Eddie 'the flog' Jordan.

He basically just rambled on for 2 minutes about how he disagrees with everyone else, that it's not 'clear cut', and then tried to justify his reasoning, whilst simultaneously outlining exactly why Vettel was 100% at fault.

Exactly. The guy just likes being different so he gets attention. I bet when he was a driver he would have ripped Vettel's throat out for that stunt.

Senna caused lots of accidents in his time, he's very aggressive and goes for it. that's fine if you scrap cleanly and come together because of a wheel lockup or loss of traction but turning into the car was foolish. Obviously Vettel wanted the cleaner track to brake because he would have know if he held his line then Webber would have outbraked him into the corner.

Webber could have moved aside and gone into the dirty part of the right side of the track too but what driver would allow an easy pass, even for a teammate? Just look at button and hamilton, noone wants to give an inch when it's for a place, especially for 1st.

It seems obvious to me that RB think Vettel has the better chance of winning the WDC and want him to get maximum points, Webber is the buffer boy. They probably were not expecting Webber to be as competitive and therefore would suit well as a 2nd driver happy to take the scraps and block opponents as we know Webber is usually pretty good at defending but not so aggressive in overtaking. Not so much the cakewalk for Vettel he thought it would have been this year.

Hmm. I'm tempted to give you a history lesson here but I'll just say one word: Suzuka. Not the first one, the year after.

And people (myself included) used to blast Schumacher's bully-boy tactics ...

PR from Red Bull:

Car 6 MARK WEBBER, Finish Position: 3rd, Start Position: 1st

“Sebastian had a bit of a top speed advantage, he went down the inside and we were side by side. I was surprised when he came right suddenly, as I was holding my racing line. It happened very, very fast and it’s a shame for the team. Not an ideal day. The McLarens were solid and it was a good race between all four of us up at the front until then, neither of us wanted to make contact with each other. It’s obviously not ideal, but it happened. There was a long way to still go in the race, but that was an interesting few metres on the track between both of us. In the end it wasn’t the result that either of us wanted. We’ve got great character in our team and two fast drivers at the front – we’re not dicing for 15th and 16th – we’re going for victories so there’s clearly a lot at stake. I’ll have a chat with Sebastian about it, we might have a difference of opinion but we’ll be adults about it and press on.”

Car 5 SEBASTIAN VETTEL, Finish Position: DNF Start Position: 3rd

If you watch it on the TV, you can see what happened. I’m not in the happiest of moods. I was on the inside going into the corner. I was there, I was ahead and focusing on the braking point and then we touched. Mark’s car hit my rear right wheel and I went off – there’s not much more to say. We were all on the same pace during the race, I think I was a bit quicker than Mark for two or three laps, I was catching him and thought I could get him on the back straight. I was very close and passed him on the left, that’s the story. This is something that happens, no one needs it, but there’s not much you can do now.”

CHRISTIAN HORNER, Team Principal: “It’s disappointing for the team to have got into that position today. The one thing I always ask the drivers is that, yes, they can race each other, but give each other room, and that’s exactly what didn’t happen. They were too far over on the left, Sebastian got a run on the inside of Mark, but then came across too early. They didn’t give each other room; it’s as simple as that. It was a massively close race between us and the McLarens up until that point. We managed to get ourselves ahead with a better pit-stop and a better strategy for Sebastian and were first and second. Sebastian was a bit happier on the prime tyre than Mark and was looking quicker at that point in the race. He got a run on Mark up the inside and we saw what happened. It’s massively disappointing and the situation shouldn’t have occurred. To give McLaren 28 points on a plate is very frustrating for everyone in the team – especially after so much har d work. We’ve lost a lot of points today with what’s happened. We need to learn from it, so we don’t find ourselves in this position again.”

Exactly. The guy just likes being different so he gets attention. I bet when he was a driver he would have ripped Vettel's throat out for that stunt.

I don't know why, but when I read that I instantly thought of Formula 1 with a bit of Mortal Kombat mixed in.

WEBBER... FINISH HIM!

What annoys me is that thsi give each other room. On the exit of the previous corner Webber was already hogging the inside line and you see Vettel dart to the outside then flick it back to the inside. There was never going to be enough room and Webber had left the door open for Vettel on the outside. Vettel chose the impossible inside move and turned the whole situation into a lottery dip. Webber has shown too mcuh respect to Vettel ad Vettel exploits it with putting him to the sword.

I am still smarting about Vettel running last in quali...cheeky bastard. Then speaking to a mate last night....he had it 1000% right. Vettel will put Webber to the sword as he think in a game of chicken which will see the cars make contact Webber will flinch first in the interest of the team. Well i am with Webber on this one. He had to set the record straight getting to the halfway season mark.

If Vettel wants to beat Mark he will have to do it in quali or cleanly in the race. That means if a guy has the inside line covered and is leaving you the outside of the track then you dont go inside and try to drive him off the road with a cut up before the braking area.

Q: (Livio Oricchio – O Estado de Sao Paulo) Mark, was your strategy to keep Vettel inside, not to make him brake before and you keep your position, even if you brake late, he would go straight?

MW: It wasn’t my plan to get him on the inside but he got there and I thought OK, I would just stay in the middle, as straight as I can, to make his line as tight as possible into the next corner obviously. And once we got to the braking point, he was obviously in a very strong position, but before we got there he came across to the right and I couldn’t react fast enough, because I wasn’t at all expecting that at that point, and that’s why it happened so fast and there was contact. Of course in Seb’s car, it obviously feels very bad for him that I’ve turned left into him, but I’m pretty confident that there was some drift from his way and then it was a f*ing disaster. So you have the line.

I think that sums it up.

edit: I would laugh if Vettel sports a shiner at the next race meet..."ah I walked into a wall"

my house became very loud when the accident occured. It was dissapointing for Webber. He deserved another win

Was i the only person hoping that Button and Homo would crash into eachother then Webber takes the win, when they were fighting for the lead

Yes I was hoping for Webber to pull a Bradbury too

Just throwing it out there...

Is it possible because Vettel's left tyres were on the marbles that when he applied the brakes the car veered to the right somewhat?

Some good lateral thinking there; except both drivers seem to indicate that they hadn't yet reached the braking point at the time they made contact.

Long and short of it seems to me to be

* SV has weeks of pent-up frustration from sitting in MW's shadow last 2 rounds...

* MW didn't give SV much room to pass, but did give him SOME room.

* MW not required to give SV room to pass - they are racing for position FFS, and with no team orders

* SV realised he needed to pass MW on lap 40 as it was his last lap on the maximum power engine mapping before fuel conservation mode

* SV had the pace out of turn 11

* SV begins to pass MW, has a brain snap and thinks "ok, I'm far enough ahead now, not 100% sure I'm clear of MW, in fact pretty sure I'm not clear at all, but MW better see me and move out of my way when I swing back over to the right to set myself up for turn 12 left hander."

It made me think of how sometimes on the motorway or some multilane secondary road you'll sometimes be going at a decent pace when some idiot comes up beside you, and knows they are not yet far enough ahead but flings his car over into your lane anyway, knowing/expecting that you will react in time and have to brake and cede to him.

    • UPDATE: Hi all!  As we are getting towards the end of this thread where I’ll showcase final dyno numbers and graph, I wanted to provide an update. Tao from HyperGear has done an amazing job building the custom divided T3 housing for the G30. Communication was flawless, price was great, and now the housing is estimated to arrive in 7-10 days! Very very pleased. I must add, if someone is looking for an affordable turbo and end up reading this thread, I would recommend HyperGear. Genuine brands are the way to go as their proven reliability, predictable performance, and there’s a plethora of information available for specs, flow, and more. This HyperGear recommendation is based on their excellent communication, dedication, and willingness to listen to their customers. I particularly liked their ability to create custom adaptations tailored to specific needs, which is a HUGE benefit over other brands. And if we consider the HyperGear provided dyno results, it adds reassurance knowing their turbos can compete against genuine brands. Next update will be after the dyno!
    • I've previously seen people post up "dress up bolt kits" for RBs but don't remember seeing them specify the full contents. I can only really suggest you grab the verniers and start measuring, and keep in mind the cam cover and timing cover bolts are both quite specific with a wider unthreaded section where the bushes sit, that will make it hard to get aftermarket replacements which tend to be all thread (set screws) or for longer bolts a flat section with a shorter threaded section at the end
    • I believe there was a similar one posted by @duggyphresh. They were re-routing their battery positive cable in the way I am also trying to achieve. Sorry, I’m new to this forum, so was a bit late to the party by a few months and so reignited the old thread, as I wanted to know how they got on with doing it.
