Um..... There's no refueling this year. It doesn't matter when they pit in regards to fuel levels.

Webber isn't getting lucky, he's just avoiding getting UNlucky.

A few years ago, Seb woul have bumped him and Webber would've been the one thrown out of the race.

anyway, the regs f the FIA clearly state that you can't crowd a driver towards the inside or outside of a curve, which is what Vettel was in the process of doing (appendix L for those interested) and that there can be penalties for doing it. I would love for there to be an official reprimand or something, just so we have a ruling on who was at fault.

Can anyone name a WDC winner from the last 20 or 30 years who would have pulled over for their team mate?

Schumi? You gotta be kidding.

Senna? Hell no.

Mansell, Prost, Alonso, Button, Hamilton? Nope.

Raikonnen? No way.

Hakkinen? Nup

Hill? Heh. Nope.

Lauda? Not even

Villeneuve? Probably the most likely, as in if he was driving a car with three wheels, low on fuel and his dad was in the team mate car.

Who WOULD let him through?

Well, Barrichello did. And how many WDC's does he have? About as many as me, despite spending four years in a WDC worthy car at Ferrari, and one at Brawn, he got nothing.

If roles were reversed, Seb would not have even given as much room as Mark did, in fact he'd have swerved all over the road to avoid being passed, rules be damned.

I can only hope that Webber gets a better drive next season, and that Vettel leaves asap, so RBR can realise how they screwed the pooch here. Vettel can't handle the pressure, he caved, and was heading that way all week.

I've got $50 riding on Vettel not finishing in Montreal. He's on tilt, and unlikely to improve because of this.

QFT. You don't become WDC by rolling over. Had Webber moved over to let Vetool through he would have been doing it for the rest of the season. Vetool would expect it, the team would expect it, and Webber would just fall into the habit of following him home.

In a funny way this was a win for Webber. Sure, he lost the race, but he still finished third and Vetool got nothing. More importantly, he showed that he's not going to cave to Vetool. Vetool will think twice before trying that again. I think he's the one who will blink next time.

But again. why is it Webber who is talking about the event as being regrettable, a shame, we need to learn etc. Him being the spokesman autimatically has the impact that he is the one that needs to apologise and smooth things over. :bunny:

Just on another topic slightly. How much sponsorship revenue does Vettel bring into the team compared to Webs?

Or does a team like RBR generate the majority of their sponsors through the team it self?

There is winning, then there is operating the team? May also explain the teams stance > Vettel.

Interesting thought.

I'd imagine with F1's profile in Germany, Seb would have a lot of Euros behind him, especially as he came in just as Schumacher left, although with his return and the rise of Rosberg and Mercedes as a separate team, that would affect him.

Still, you'd have to think that Vettel is the more marketable face. His merch would sell more too. However, that would certainly change if Webber starts to win a few. Like in soccer, the English go for England, or anyone playing against Germany.

Wrong side to pass, wrong wrong wrong. Webber, Sato, Montoya, Alonso. is a short list of guys who are not going to let that happen. My one eyed support is keeping me up this year for one reason. Webber!! I remember watching Jonesy win in Long Beach, and another one 30 years on is not too much to ask.

Vetool (like that) is going to win another race before the end of the year and so is Mark, but I bet the other teams wont be cutting the spoilt little German cot dweller any slack - he will also have some DNFs

Go Mark Webber - it is your time...

TT

Showing your age there greg! I don't think I was born when Alan Jones won the WDC.

Nice find Roy. And I agree. The guy is so mature and professional, and sure, while he might not be the fastest driver out there, there is so much that a driver gives to his team other than just being super quick. The ability to fulfil *all* of his obligations as a team member and driver - that is what is of value, and Vettel's definitely got a long way to go there.

Horner, Marko, and probably Dietrich behind the scenes - "disappointment" doesn't begin to describe it.

Well according to F1 Racing magazine survey at the start of the year, Vettel has less fans then Webber. Webber actually poled better then Vettel, with Webber having 2% vs Vettel's 1.7% share of the vote. So for what its worth for Red Bull the product, it seems the Australian holds more sway with the public then his younger team mate. Fans also listed Webbz German GP win as more memorable then RBRs first win with Vettel.

So not sure what that all means, other then if Red Bull want to appease fans, then its Webber with the most international fans

On ESPNF1 and Eurosport, reports are the RBR management have taking a back step in blaming Mark, and now class it as a racing accident. But to me, the damage has already been done.

Today is also the 40th anniversary of Bruce McLaren's death.

Saw this. Means nothing now though does it. Backpedalling to try and save face, but the horse has already bolted. In any case, even a "neutral" stance doesn't cut it when – based on the facts the public have been given – an overwhelming majority of both the public and the F1 establishment believe Webber was not at fault.

Guess we can't understimate the power of the European relationship that RBR's Austrian HQ shares with Vettel's German background and management.

We can only hope that as MW himself said, he has been through darker days than this in the past and hope he will pull through. Even if he doesn't win the WDC I hope he whips Vettel in the driver's standings by year's end.

True. Which Mark Webber would you rather be? The bloke backflipping Mercedes LeMans cars and struggling in Jaguar, or the bloke leading the WDC with a team that favours the other guy?

In one way, it's good. If Webber does win, he'll have deserved it. He'll have to earn it well, even if Seb gets first access and prime strategy option, he'll have to overcome that, meaning winning would be all the sweeter.

If Seb wins, he'll be tainted by the favoured status stigma, unless he goes on to win a bucket full of WDC's, and with Alonso, Hamilton, Button and even Rosberg in the field for a good while yet, I can't see that happening.

Hope Webber beats his arse until he retires, then Ricciardo gets his seat and beats Vettel all the more.

Webber should leave if the season goes to sh1t. If he wins the WDC he should stay and gloat...it will drive Seb crazy! If Webz wins and Seb comes 2-4th, I wouldnt be surpirsed if he has a dummy spit and leaves at the end of 2011. Can you imagine if Ricciardo gets the STR call up in 2011 and at 35 teams up with Webz at RBR! Complete dream, but Vettel is only contracted to RBR as a driver, not the Red Bull the company. He is free to shop around if out of contract, or if Mercedes etc want to buy his contract to replace Schuey.

Would love to see Webber win, and just hang around for another season and drive Vettel up the wall and use the confidence and maturity to watch Vettel explode. LOL, but thats a dream too. Vettel isnt tht stupid and his advisors and team will be in his ear and getting him to calm down and grow up and get his season back on track. RBR can easiliy win another 5-6 of the upcoming GPs, thats a lot of points!

So it seems Webby may well have the skill AND the car to win a WDC, but He'll likely be robbed of it by team orders like "turn revs down, pistons wearing heavily on crown"

Then the team makes "Danger to manifold" flash up on his steering wheel, then the floorpan falls off  ...that stuff really happens...right?

P.S I think the Vetool tag is going to stick, I like it.

He needs to be a man and face the fact he made a mistake!

This was true even by 'body language' standards, because there was something I saw (if my eyes weren't deceiving me), that I couldn't understand!!!

I just couldn't fathom why Vettel was getting sympathetic pats on the back as he greeted his support staff after the clash!!!

It just hit me that an old adage still rings true, "It's not what you know; it's who you know" - and that adage sux!!!

*returns to pits after NOT turning revs down* head mechanic- "now me and the mad scientist gotta tear the block down and replace those rings you fried. you may have overheated the motec-system exhaust too..."
