Just had a look at the championship tables and it may be a little early to call, but i think the fuzz are out of the WCC already, they're 80 odd points adrift of Mclaren now. Also, Depending on alonso's pace in silverstone, i think the WDC is starting to look like a bit of a stretch.

They were pretty horrible in the sphincter of the universe and theres a few more of those tracks to come. Red bull look pretty good on those sweeping tracks, and Mclaren are pretty nifty everywhere. I dont see too many BIG points hauls for them any time soon.

pity, the season promised so much with four big teams fighting it out

ok, I have a few points: :bunny:

Am i the only one who noticed webbers dig at vettel in the post qualifying press conference? they are talking to vettel and he's crapping on about how great it is to be on pole (by 7 hundredths of a second mind you) and then turn to webber: he then says "well I just wasn't good enough for pole today, but I'm not going to come up with a whole list of excuses" lol. cop that mr "it wasn't my fault" vettel. He's probably to thick to realise webber was having a go at him. it also tells me things between these two aren't as rosy as RBR are making out.

And as much as HK is a tool for defending against a car that is so much faster than him (if in fact he knew who it was coming up on him), that was some amateur-esque shit from Webber...Why draft a car that close when you're going to pass him with ease anyway?

webber wasn't drafting. that was just a complete nonsense comment from martin brundle (who should know better). considering the lotii are 4 laps down on any given race and 3 seconds a lap off the pace it would be impossible for a bloke with the fastest car on the grid to 'draft' behind a lotus. he'd just be pushing it down the straight! he was trying to pass but got fcked when he found heiki in the middle of the road. heiki then blocked right as mark went to go to the inside, then when marked moved left to go around he moved left too. Mark saw it and tried to go right again but given that heiki also slowed at the same moment which created a big closing speed difference by then it was too late. like mark said he was a passenger.

for heiki to be trying to agressively block mark like that is crazy and clearly unsafe. he is in the dead slowest car in the field and was trying to aggressively block the absolute fastest car in the field. great idea.

personally i would have though the majority of blame would be on Webber,

The lotus was moving over and leaving the inside line open, and webber followed the lotus to the out side of the track.

no way. see above. heiki wasn't leaving anything open. he was blocking and even said so on the radio. if you watch the moves it's actually heiki shadowing webber to block him.

Sooo many cars within a second of the car in front and no moves going on. Can this farking circuit already. 3 years of shit GPs when Spain already has another GP.

agreed. it's shithouse. the most mickey mouse track of the year I reckon. 25 corners and all of them rubbish. why does spain need 2 GP's? i'd rather go back to 2 german GP's than have this. nurbring and hockenheim aren't exactly fantastic but they both beat the pants off valencia.

What the fark is he on about "Thats what I am talking about" ;):( Farkign idiot! :)

yes he sure is gay. god I can't stand his ugly little mug and his giant ears any more. he is so manufactured and false. 100% see through. guys like michael schumacher may not be jumping up and down and screaming 'excitement machines' but at least they were honest in their behaviour. vettel acts like he just spent 6 months in "Red Bulls school of acting really excited and stuff".

Webber's crash reminds me of Christian Fittipaldi's... except he still finished :)

Fantastic driving by Koboyashi too, some of the only real passing we have seen this year!

That Kobayashi has a future I think. Best Japanese driver we've seen since ... ever.

Man, I remember that Christian Fittipaldi crash. Felt so old when I realised it was 1993 though, it only seems like a few years ago.

I had a bit of a chuckle when he said that... Don't think Vettel got it though

And surely this track is only on the calender because of the Monaco-esque atmosphere? read: hot bitches half naked in a pool and massive boats

webber wasn't drafting. that was just a complete nonsense comment from martin brundle (who should know better).

err Webber was very clearly drafting all the way to the point of impact, you dont follow someone left and right at 190mph unless you are drafting.

it would be impossible for a bloke with the fastest car on the grid to 'draft' behind a lotus

Not impossible, just more difficult because the closing distance from the drafting is much greater which means the following car has to move out of the draft much earlier and this is what caused the accident. Webber is used to drafting the Ferrari and McLarens but the difference in closing speed with the Lola caught Webber out.

110% Webbers fault without a doubt.

The terminal speed difference on the straight was allegedly 1km/h different. So it is reasonable to assume there is something to be gained from drafting even a slow Lotus but....

Did HK brake 30m early?

If so then you can stick the blame almost entirely at HK's feet. Try brake testing any F1 driver that is on your hammer and see what happens.

Schuey almost rear ended Hamilton in practice by trying to create space when Hamo was on a hot lap. There was a huge gap between them but it was still a close thing.

On another note does anyone else feel that when the safety car pulls off that the front running cars should maintain a minimum speed prior to the restart?

It was actually 80 metres according to RBRs telemetry (biased perhaps but it certainly looked like he braked early). At that speed you have no time to react.

I don't think Webber was drafting, at least not near the end, I think he was trying to get around Kovi who was weaving to block Webber. Quite frankly Kovi should have behaved as though he was being lapped. Losing the place was inevitable, even had they not collided trying to keep Webber behind was just going to cost him time.

    • I mean it's probably likely that people overestimate their skills in dialling in a setup and noticing the changes. I had SK shocks and springs, and added heavier springs and got them revalved by Sydney Shocks to suit based upon what I told them I wanted the car to handle like. I got back a completely different feeling set of shocks, which probably (?) feel great on track but holy hell are they rough on tram tracks and the like. Truth be told I doubt I'd be any faster or slower with either setup, or camber/castor combination. I also had whiteline eccentric castor bushes up front of my R34. I removed them and put in poly non-adjustable ones to soothe my OCD (nobody ever set the castor the same side to side, and it'd be near impossible to do) and be happy the wheel is centered in the well now for clearance reasons. Yes I wanted it to move 1mm 'back' :p I've effectively set my castor back to stock, negating all the benefits of that which is supposedly massive. I can't tell any difference steering the car.
    • You reckon? I have to disagree. Notwithstanding that at some point we may all be forced to do this to our cars if we want to keep driving them, there is absolutely nothing about an electric-converted-previously-IC-car that is ever good. EVs that are built by OEMs on platforms that were originally IC already suck, let alone the shitty outcomes that result from doing it as a retro to something that was actually built as an IC car. This is because the platform really needs to be designed to house the battery in a useful place (ie, down as low as possible) and the motors are properly located relative to the wheels that they have to drive. Converted platforms already suck at this. But when you try to shove sufficient battery capacity into a previously IC car, you can't put it down on/in the floor, because that space doesn't exist. You can't find enough space where the fuel tank used to be (if it is an inboard fuel tank) and you don't want to hang it out behind the rear axle line if you had a rear fuel tank. And there's not enough space in the tunnel if you still want to use it for anything remotely like what it was originally used for. The engine bay is too big for a motor, and you'd really prefer that the motor for the rear wheels wasn't in the front engine bay anyway. And there's not enough room where the diff was for a proper man-sized E motor. And then.... there is the complete lack of soul and emotion that is provided by EVs. There are some cracking restomods out there. Like the Alfaholics GTA thingo. But it is petrol powered. Look at the alternative EV version of a GTA restomod by Totem. it is jaw droppingly beautiful. But by all reports is is objectively awful to drive, despite having 600 HP or something, simply because there is nothing there. It sounds like a sewing machine or a leaf blower. It should scream and wail and make the hairs on your neck stand up. Oh, and it's 1500 bloody kg in a car that was <900kg when new. GTRs are heavy enough as it is without pushing them up to 2tonnes worth of pork.

    • hahaha @joshuaho96 the most action it gets is when I have to drive from West to SE VIC to meet the fam. Even then, it;s on highway cruising speeds
    • don't know anyone in this thread, but i just found it, read the entire thing in a few hours, realized greg is still posting progress, and just have to say, this is awesome. it looks awesome. 100% right about the Uras kit making it a pain to get on hoists...have the same kit on my 34 and it takes six 2x4s and race ramps to do it without taking parts off. this reminds me exactly of this thread. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/build-projects-and-project-cars/r63-amg-the-unicorn-of-my-destruction/110824/page8/
