Whenever Hamo set a fastest lap, the next lap Webber reset it. They were toying with each other. If Hamo truely had the pace to beat Webber, he wouldnt have sat back and accepted second like he did for most of the race.

Webber was clearly in a conservative mode for the race, responding to the mind games when needed to show his car had pace to burn, if required.

At no time was Hamo a chance of keeping up with Webber, he drive as quick as he needed to. In light of all the bumps at Silverstone, the wind and clear pace advantage he drove to a gap.

There were several examples when Webber had to go and he did. On full tanks he ap after lap pulled a 0.1 to 0.3 sec a lap on Hamilton. He relaxed and took the extra bit of time to make sure they nailed a smooth stop so lost some time there. But pulled back his buffer, likewise after the pace car.

Not sure if you were watching he lap timing, with about 12 laps to go Hamo put in a fastest lap taking it from 5.2 to 4.7 or something. The next lap Webber beat Hamiltons fastest lap by 1.5 seconds...a pretty clear "don't bother Lewis...i have so much in reserve" . Then with two laps to go brought it home and the 6-7sec gap fell to nothing.

RBR had so much clear race pace, they just didnt need to push the car, a smart thing in light of all the offs over the weekend and failures RBR have had this year.

Nice analysis.

Never said Lewis could have passed Mark, just that the RB wasn't exactly driving away from the Mac. Only the team really knows to what degree he was 'holding back', if any

Actually if you look at the times most laps Mark was indeed driving away. The gap increased steadily in the closing laps to be 7.2 with three to go, at which point Mark clearly decided he'd done enough and backed off.

take a butchers at the standings, fags :)

Mark is only 17 points off the lead. One win for him, a bad result for Lewis and Mark is leading again. It's hardly a comfortable lead. Don't get too excited.

buying some tickets for the monza gp tomorrow. want to come roy? drive nurburgring in an M3 the week before then drive or train up to Milan for the Monza GP on the sunday. :D Monday off to Amalfi coast.

it would be so cool to see Mark win at Monza. I've never seen the bloke actually win a race in the flesh. Although watching him take 5th place in the minardi in 02 in melbourne will stay with me a long time. schuey won that race but you'd hardly have known it around melbourne (well except for down carlton way - lygon st)...

10,11,12 September? Doubt it, not unless paperwork is signed the next few weeks, in which case for sure you can count me in. :) But at present, Hungary is looking a good chance if i can muster up some support...maybe Spa...but if no contracts are signed by end July I will beback in Aus mid August so all the cool stuff I want to do gets cancelled and back to crashing GTSts . :D

nothing wrong with baggin shielas and smashing tinnies instead of chatting up birds and downing pints.

Yes, that would be most excellent

Or maybe Mark can stick some razorblade canards on his front winglets and pop another tyre for tool boy

I'm pretty sure it was Hamiton's front wing that gave Vetool his puncture as Hamilton said after the race there was some slight damage to his front wing where contact was made, even though both driver's said they didn't feel any significant contact at the time.

But... I like your thinking! :D

What I want to see is team jihad getting up there and mixing it up to make the results abit more than a McLaren-RedBull fight.

And, forgive me now, but I would really like to see the old Schumacher banging wheels with Hamilton, Vetool, Webber et al....

Have to say, it's been a pretty exciting F1 season so far. Plenty to talk about hey?
