sorry to hear that Troy

Bikes just go faster easier and there should be a 40Kmh allowance for motorcycles

as for power to wheight - that's just a silly law.

as if you cant kill yourself on a learner legal just as easy

I have to disagree on the power to weight issue for new road riders - I think it's one of the smarter rules.

If someone's stupid enough to jump on a high powered bike and ride it like a dickhead, they're going to do the exact same thing on a legal bike. Unless we're talking about speeds exceeding 150kph around town, you can go just as fast on a Ninja 250 which is perfectly legal to ride on your Ls - and it'll still smash most cars off the line anyway, so it's certainly not gutless when comparing to other vehicles.

Ultimately I believe it comes down to the mentality and attitude of the rider; not the bike he or she is riding. An idiot on a legal bike is just going to take a little bit longer to write themselves off than if they were on a more powerful bike, but just because they may be on a legal bike doesn't make them any less of an idiot.

Ii agree to point.

But ots much easier for an inexperienced rider to themselves into trouble on a big bike.

But most learner legal bikes these days are quicker than the race bikes of years gone by

lol very good point.

I suppose you could look at it from the perspective of "the law shouldn't be necessary, but unfortunately thanks to the general overwhelming incompetence and stupidity of the common citizen, it is."

I understand your view Danooh.

However I still believe in taking responsibility for ones self.

Small Rant

Why does society create rules for those who do not think?

Most have confidence not deserved (especially the young) and the dumb.

No empathy from me.

My issue is that one persons stupidity impacts the family and folk around them.

100% agree.

It's always the minority that ruin it for the majority.

Without digressing even further, I agree with allowing natural selection to take it's place. We need to stop creating rules and regulations to protect the ignorant and stupid from themselves.

Unfortunately it's all too often that these idiots take out other innocent people at the time of writing themselves off.

I agree to a point as well. But those rules for the ignorant and stupid also protect us from them.

Say one of these ignorant and stupid people get on a bike or a car and have no idea how to handle the power. And in the process kill not only themselves but you or one of you family members.

Then what?

Yeah that's exactly it, hence why I reckon there should be an appropriate workshop and then competency test that removes the power restrictions on your license

Like a "P off" course? Could work - but that could bring false competence becuase I don't think a day course is going to make you handle 1000cc bike.

This is a little bit sideways - but was talking to a m8 about the whole process of everyone hitting us Skyliners hard - when the majority of us are sensible. I think they should crack down hard on P-Platers but slack off on opened licences (being able to use more Mods) Do remember that Canberra is the only state (and SA?) that allow their P-platers to use Turbos.

Yeah I agree it's probably the best way to go about it....ON PAPER. Not viable in practice :(

I guess this is the point I was thinking of as well. as a former MX racer, I had little experience of a roadbike. same applies to cars, my escort was gutless, but at the same time kept me out of trouble.

no new rider or driver can competently deal with the power in a litre + bike or something like a GTR. Yes, we have all had the confidence that we are better than schumacher or gardner, but at the end of the day car and bike craft take time.

if it reduces the likelyhood of someone getting into trouble with a big hit of power, then what is wrong with that? the other thing about roads, is that there is more than just one car or bike to contend with.

I agree you need experience to handle the power, but personally I'm wiser than to even try using mine. I've fanged it twice (right time and place) in second gear and it scares the shit out of me - the kind of scary that reminds you why you respect the power it has.

I guess I'm just one of those people who's smart enough to know how to ride it appropriately. I know I can't handle what this bike is capable of, but that just means I ride it to my experience and skill level (which is riding it like an absolute bitch most of the time lol). But yeah, not everyone has this mindset.

good to hear - too many don't respect what they are on, or in for that matter.

    • I am currently going this route. I am curious how much horse power you put behind the cut bell housing? Collins was telling me I am going to crack it and bluh bluh bluh. Because I didn’t buy the custom fly wheel from him. I am looking for somewhere around like 500 hp
    • Forgot to mention that these are the before pics when I first got it!
    • Thanks @PranK for the updated member status, much appreciated! 👍🏼 Now, about those pics… Unfortunately I could only find ones that I took in the dark. I was soon to discover that underneath it wasn’t in the best shape, but it was mine and that’s all I cared about at the time 😆
    • Oh, and only having done this task yesterday, I've now driven the car ~60km since, and while it is hard to avoid placebo effect and confirmation bias, I reckon that some annoyances I had with the way the car has been behaving have improved. Which....kinda makes sense, I guess. If the bushes were really stiff and resisting rotation, they would have been contributing to the effective wheel rate. And if it was more so on one side (which it was, because one side was worse than the other) then.... you might imagine that the additional rate would be asymmetric, and potentially even different between compression and rebound. And so... the car has been twitchy at higher speeds - like freeway on ramps. It really shouldn't be. The wheel alignment is good and there are no (other) known problems elsewhere in the suspension. But at 90-100 on a long sweeping ramp, tiny steering wheel motions would make it feel like it wanted to rear steer. Quite nervous. At lower speeds it would heave about in a manner that it didn't use to. Didn't want to put power down, etc etc. Now...seems to behave better. Am going to have to concentrate on the various corners where it has exhibited weirdness, on the rare occasions when I can get a decent run at them without Methanial getting in the way in his D-Max/Ranger/LDV Van/etc.
