I paid $500 for a single AFM rebuild for my v8 porka - but that included a new hotwire as well. AFAIK it was as good as new because the hotwire and the PCB is pretty much all there is to an AFM. The ebay guy is probably just soldering in a new PCB.

It's a relatively straight forward process, I f**ked around and achieved a similar thing with an rb25 afm a few years ago. I think the key is in throwing it on a flow bench of some kind afterward so you can get a voltage vs airflow readout that is accurate and specific for the unit because as Nismoid says; as it's aged over the years the voltage it is putting out in relation to the amount of air that's flowing through it has most certainly changed and it's accuracy will be defiantly questionable :banana:
