$380k wow what a rip off.

And US$165,000 for brand new R8 V10 in USA including carbon, wheels & leather.

Thats only AU$183,000 the same price we pay for the R35

Talk about Audi raping us, even after you put on luxary tax and all the rest you don't end up at $380k, they should be $260,000 or so. Just ripping us off cause they can.

To be honest, it is good, obviously no super car makes for economical or sensible motoring and was not a consideration for me, far too much passion involved.

Some actual numbers, drive very gently and I saw 11.3 l per 100km with AC on over the xmas period. I think I saw Nissan quote numbers about 12l Give a kid a lolly pop to suck on and don’t remove the wrapper… No fun! When enjoying the drive I tend to see 14 – 18 l / 100km Drive hard (eg: track days) and it will use stacks, and I mean stacks more of course.

Are you kidding? You have forgotten to quote the price of the GT-R in US dude...

True that we are getting well and truly screwed in this country.

Anyone who thinks we arent getting screwed in this country on the price of cars is an idiot, im sure its further to ship a car from Japan to the UK or more of a pain in the ass to make a LHD car in a RHD country but no we still pay 50k more. Why the government doesnt step in with a big WTF I have no idea.

Why would they? The Aust govt is part of the problem!!! Look at luxury car tax and protection for importers against cheap grey imports. Why would they want to be seen helping "fat cats" get cheaper luxury cars?

The real question is why dont people complain about it. We all know the car companies are screwing us and so is the government yet people say and do nothing. I'm looking at you ACCC. Petrol goes up by 15 cents a litre its the end of the bloody world, wow it costs the average Aussie even with a shitbox VN Commo only an extra $214 a year. Yet with car prices no one says anything, we get screwed for a couple of hundred bucks its the apocolypse but if we get screwed for 10k plus on a new car it doesnt even rate a mention. Lets face it if wasnt for the government propping up GM and Ford in this country they would of been dead a long long time ago, so we keep maybe 100,00 people in jobs in this country that are slowly going overseas anyway and we all get screwed on cars. Why cant I import a 911 from the UK brand new and have it cost only 60% of the price it would here. Its not like its hurting anyone the government still slams me with LCT + GST + Import Duty so they still get their blood from the stone.

I have statistics to disprove this....

Only the R33 and heaps of them, especially the GTS-T.

Been following this forum for a year or so.. So heres my 2 cents.. I can afford to buy a GTR / R8 / 2nd hand Gallardo etc these are the only cars that currently float my boat :P The thing is i'm a tight ass so i follow the 2nd hand market pretty closely. The 2nd hand GTR market currently is rediculas, you have 5-10k cars at $169-$179k. They have all been on the market for months some 6 mnths and don't sell. There are new ones for the same or less.. Check carpoint $169,000 drive away.. So my point? well i won't touch a 2nd hand GTR till there around the $140k <5000k price point.. Hmm the R8 starts at an unbelievable price nearly 300k for a car with the same engine that comes in the rs4 ( $160k new, $120ish now). I've put offers on 2 R8's for $180k with <5000 ks both sold just over that price $190+$195, the others available have all been for sale for months again and start around the $225k price? OOOOOOh Gallardo's hmm i'm happy to pay $200ish got close at $220 for a redish one but it sold!! Now i can't rember why i started this now but i think the point was, that for me the GTR is a great supercar starting point ( i had a GT3. Fun but not that fast.. Actually i think my 1098 and r1 make em all feel a bit slow ) however we do get raped in Aus price wise so i want to cover my ass a bit with the depreciation thing on any car. I really believe the 2nd hand sellers out there at the moment are dreaming at the prices they want ( oh no i've never launched it, absolutly been babied... um why'd u by it then? ). I guess in another 6mnths when they havn't sold it they may realise this and then i'll bite the bullet and get one...However if the others come up cheap i might have to skip it? hope not cause the GTR in the flesh is hot!! mmm black please.... :)

The standard R35 for me at first glance was disappointing, especially from the front. But the more I look at it the more I like it. It's more elegant than the previous models that's for sure.

However I'm more swayed by the rugged look of the R33 and R34. Check out this puppy.

What I'd never see myself doing is buying a new one for $150k, then spending another $12k on having it's heart pulled out , installing a new ECU and exhaust.

Then off to the bank again to spend another $6k on body styling.

Then when I'm bored with 520 bhp on a car that's capable of double that, off to the bank again to spend another $10-15k on further engine mods, possibly forged components.

If I'm gonna spend $150k on a car it would have to look the part and go like a 15 yr old boy havin his first root.

Wait 2 years for the surge in tuning costs to settle, buy one for $70k probably already tweaked and trimmed.

Looks beautiful from the side, I really like the small windows on the doors and the nice coupe slant on the rear pillars.

And from behind it looks pretty fat and fast.

Just the front for me is missing something. It needs are far more aggressive looking spoiler.

The V-spec has more air inlets and looks a bit better.

Performance wise, I don't doubt in the slightest it's remarkable to drive.

I do agree, the car looks a bit lacking from the front. The sides & back make up for it of course but yeah a more agressive front or something could be added there to improve it.

as already summed up the R35.. amazing car, but it doesnt have that rough street car feel.

Have you tried making an offer on any of these? Surely these are just ambit amounts given that they're just as much as a new one! I know munro bought a 2nd hand one with 7K on the clock for a lot less than this amount. Genuine sellers will consider a genuine offer.

    • As an ex-skyline owner Going off how these things are now "modern classics", I would keep the twins and just "refresh" bits that are required for reliable power and have a car you can take out for a cruise whenever you get the itch As a idiot who cannot leave things alone Going deep into the "rabbit hole" is a easy thing to do, as previously mentioned, once you start it becomes a slippery slope, wirh lots of supporting mods, and possibly rebuilds, and unless you have a bottomless pit of funds, the car can spend most of its life sitting in the garage,  broken, waiting for parts, or building more funds For a classic like a R32 GTR Basically, a reliable OEM+ refresh, that isn't a broken garage queen, is alot better than a car that you build, then break, then fix, then break again And it isn't just the engine you need to worry about, these beasties are getting on in age, and all parts are getting, and have got, expensive, the days of picking up cheap replacement engines and other driveline parts are well and truly over The funds not spent on going a single with quality parts, and with all the other other bits required to make it happen, could be spent on refreshing alot of other parts A wise man once said "If you cannot afford 2 GTR's, you cannot afford 1", I also believe he said this about 20 years ago when you could pick up a clean R32 GTR up for around $20k My advice for a R32 GTR (the one and only true Godzilla in my mind) is to think holistically about the whole car, the body, the power train, the suspension, the brakes, and the driveline SAU is a wealth of knowledge with decades of Skyline experience,  from stock, to OEM+, to modified to varying degrees, to full on or weekend or dedicated racecars, as well as full on money pits that rarely leave their garage Treat the old girl nice and give her what she deserves, you are a lucky man to own such a classic car  
    • For that price you could buy the hypergear turbo (big fan as I run one) and the Haltech ECU..
    • +1 for the Elite 2500. Get some new knock sensors while you are at it (pretty cheap), look up the TAARKS Nissan knock sensor kit. You may also want to get new coils (R35gtr) while your at it (assuming your on stock ones), as they are a liability. Mine started right up and idled fine on the base map. Also go MAP over MAF, as said above, Haltech make this super simple right out the box. Another fanboy of DBW here, Outsider Garage from your neck of the woods make some nice conversion gear for the R33 (that’s where I got some of my gear from).
