So After All The Hype, Speculations Etc, Is The R35 Gtr What It's Cracked Up To Be?

Recommended Posts

True that we are getting well and truly screwed in this country.

(The following have been converted to AUD on the exchange rates of the day

Australia $155k + on road costs

USA $80,790 USD ($90,016 AUD) + on road costs

UK 59,400GBP ($107,007 AUD) + on road costs

Anyone who thinks we arent getting screwed in this country on the price of cars is an idiot, im sure its further to ship a car from Japan to the UK or more of a pain in the ass to make a LHD car in a RHD country but no we still pay 50k more. Why the government doesnt step in with a big WTF I have no idea.

I counted $54k in taxes on mine, GST, LCT and $10k in stamp duty (rego) Therefore I see the goverment as the problem.

I've never seen a chick behind the wheel of an R32, R34 or R35 ever.

Only the R33 and heaps of them, especially the GTS-T.

Don't tell me it's price related, you'll spoil it for me.

My house mate drives both the 32 and 35 from time to time, her usual ride is a lancer.... (Tommi Makinen evo 6)

Have you tried making an offer on any of these? Surely these are just ambit amounts given that they're just as much as a new one! I know munro bought a 2nd hand one with 7K on the clock for a lot less than this amount. Genuine sellers will consider a genuine offer.

No you are right i havn't made an offer however $140k is $20-$25k less than advertised.... If munro bought one cheap it was probably an import, with no warranty and no nisssan servicing etc, they should be $100k. Its crazy to pay $140k plus for any new car with no warranty or servicing support!!! Even a new m3 with 10-15ks on it has depreciated up to $50k...... Thats a much better buy but i realllly like the GTR... If you've had anything for sale for 6 mnths and no takers ummmmm IT'S TO MUCH!!! :D

Why would they? The Aust govt is part of the problem!!! Look at luxury car tax and protection for importers against cheap grey imports. Why would they want to be seen helping "fat cats" get cheaper luxury cars?

Beat me to it Fungoolie! Krudd Govt reckons anyone on $50,000 p.a + is "rich".

The LCT increase was a shameless tax grab. 33% is outrageous. At least they stuck to their import tarriff reduction to 5%...but where is the price drop for the GT-R?. Nissan have made no announcement on price changes, but to put this in perspective Porsche have announced revised pricing because of the tariff reduction. Now I can tell you Porsche increase their prices every year regardless. In August Sept they do their model year change, but they have cut the price on every model.

This is the before and after price of the Cayman S 3.4 manual coupe. Previous RRP (excluding on-roads) was $157,300, the new RRP (becuase of import duty drop) is $146,000 exactly (a drop of $11,300) would be nice if the GT-R pricing moved in a similar fashion!

BTW, I was assuming you were talking about the new V10 R8. I dont think you could compare the old V8 model R8 to a new R35 GTR. I have not driven one, but from the specs it would not appear to be in the same league. I have driven the new Audi S5 which has the same engine (slightly detuned) & it was a very nice car. Just not an animal like the R35.

you are 100% right. driven the "old" R8 and it's an awesome car. very nicely made, absolutely gorgeous too, but no where near the performance of the R35. The 35 will comfortably beat an R8, and with a tune, some boost and a mid-pipe it wont even be that close... like I said, R8 is an awesome car but performance wise the 35 is on another level and value wise you cannot even fairly compare them at all....

How does the GTR fair when it comes to fuel effiency?

ummm...... compared to what? if compared to a Lamborghini diablo that it looks quite good and compared to a 747 then it's excellent. compared to a prius though it's not great. to be honest if fuel consumption is anywhere in the top 10 of your priorities then a 3.8litre 500hp twin turbo is not the engine you are after. possibly a 100cc scooter... hey I won't laugh I have one... I ride it to the office all the time. :)

most times when enjoying a 35 you can expect around 20L/100km but then that is actually a tad better than my old 32 which made around the same power. for track use I would say you could crack 25 or even 30l/100 pretty easily.

seriously, if fuel usage is a concern, it's not the way to go.

Ah, OK. I will give an opinion on this. Warranty is just not an issue to me. If something brakes then putting exactly the same thing back in is not the answer. I want to make it better. Its funny how Keirs R35 & My R35 which happen to be build numbers 119 & 120 (came off the line in Japan together & now thrash around Mallala together) & are "unwarrantable" & "unserviceable" JDM models, are 2 of the hardest driven GTRs in Australia (notwithstanding you other hard cores & you know who you are!) Neither of these cars have missed a beat or had any serious problems at all.

Crazy to pay $140K!!! You should be lucky to get one for that & as far as M3s go they are nice & all but have you driven one hard in the hills then hopped back into an R35? Chalk & cheese.

Servicing is easy & much cheaper to do at Willalls then Nissan anyway. As soon as I put the mid pipe & COBB tune on my GTR & hit 120 degrees trans temp around Mallala, then proceeded to check out how much fun the launch control feature is then my "Aussie delivered warranty" would have gone up in smoke anyway. And I would have paid another

$30000 or so for the priviledge(& also scored that great res pacman screen!)

The other great thing about R35s is the parts becoming available for them.

I went for a good hard run in slip35's silver beast the other night (the one with the new carbon seats fitted)

That is one awesome GTR. Think he may have voided his warranty by now......... oh well, such a shame.

I agree that some of these cars have been sitting around on the market for too long & should be ripe for low offers.

Get out there & get them on the streets & racetracks. Thats where they want to be............

Warranty is just not an issue to me.

Munro people just dont get that. IMO warranty + track cars do not mix. It's foolish to think it can i reckon. I'm not sure Nissan actually get it either. They've tried to put this complicated wrapper around the whole track car thing (pre/post track inspections, paranoid fluid swaps, policies like swapping out ALL rotors and pads even if just pads are cracked, etc etc etc). Heck even thrashed big dollar GT cars arent maintained like that (take a close look at their brakes... lol). In two years time when warranty doesnt exist what will people do anyway?

I am actually curious if anyone has had anything covered under warranty (Other than the Gear Box that just failed here in Sydney). I had pads crap themselves....no warranty.

So far the warranty is not worth squat, it does not appear to cover anything. Nissan are sounding like they will find any reason not to honour it.

As such if you are buying a car for its warranty then good luck, but please ensure you don't take it to the track, do not replace any fluids, do not replace any parts....oh and try not to drive it.

The warranty is not worth the carbon fiber operators manual that it comes in.

So who cares if it's $20 to $25 less than advertised. Are you embarrassed offering something way lower than what is asked? Maybe they should be embarassed asking so much. Something is only worth what someone else will pay for it, not what the owner "believes" it's worth.... Clearly if they reject reasonable offers then they are not genuinely selling and are just seeing if there is someone stupid enough who hasn't done any research willing to pay ridiculous money for it. If I wanted to speculate on making some money by buying and then selling something immediately afterwards, I wouldn't be doing it with a GT-R!! Perhaps something limited edition or with a waiting list but not something in good supply through its dealer network. I know people who offer on things such as real estate on the basis of the asking price less X%. On this basis all someone has to do is ask for more and they'll get more.... Since when has what someone asks have anything to do with what it's worth? Do your research. See what equivalent stuff sells for and what you could alternatively buy for the money and make your offer on that basis. Simple as that.... You may be surprised what they go down to if they are genuinely motivated buyers...

did I say buyers??? God I'm having a blonde day....

I've had a new set of front tyres for free because Nissan screwed up the free wheel alignment at 2000 kms. They've disassembled my front rotors and re- "greased" them due to a rattle I suspect caused by water washing out the anti seize used between the hats and the rotors. I will be returning the car to have this done again because it's started happening again and they told me they didn't use the genuine stuff last time as they didn't have it in stock. I also need to have a couple other things looked at, my backlight on my MFD apppears to die on really hot days and when I wash the car, as soon as I start it immediately afterwards, my oil level display seems to think I have no oil in the engine. This rectifies itself after the motor has run for a minute. Mind you, saying a car without a warranty should be had for $100K!!!!! That's crazy talk.... I'd gladly forsake my warranty for $50K. I mean what could possibly go wrong for that amount of money? I could get a new trans and motor for that amount!

My experience has been quite the opposite. I had a floor mat that wasn't perfect and it was no trouble to get a complete new set of four, done in no time at all. As for track days, the dealership has taken me to two. They confirm track days are all good, oils must be replaced if cooked, at my expense. Otherwise they encourage it.

It is good to hear that people are pleased with their dealerships, the service manager at mine has been great, but it is like his hands are tied by Nissan Australia. The service manager comes out a picks my car up when it needs a service, however everything is at a cost.

I think the sales experience with mine is what soured things from the beginning and the complete lack of response from Nissan Australia when the issue was raised with them.

I love the car and if I could have got it for $30 - 50k less and forgone the warranty then I certainly would have. To date I have seen no value in it.

Cheers.

I know your dealer in Perth...they are exceptional people...and I was at that track day.

If I was to buy an R35 in Australia, Northside in Perth would be the place. Good attitude, great guys

honto?

I don't think it's that high, spirited driving maybe.

Besides, 20l/100km is extremely poor for a V6 Japanese street car built for the new decade, its not a Hummer.

I agree that imported cars cost way too much here in Australia, but it's to protect the local market, always have been and always will. Lets just say that Japan and Korea and more realistic than the rest of the world in terms of producing cars that are more car for the dollar. Their aftermarket market kicks ass as well.

The people who got their R35 first enjoys it longer, they are lucky in that respect but at a price. Much like when the R32 GTR was selling here in limited numbers, I think it was valued at over $70k at the time (a neighbour had one) but those guys enjoyed it. They are probably not enjoying the resale value right now but that's how it goes.

When it comes to warrenties. Well I got a JDM & the transmission broke within 2 months took 4 months to get it back on the road better than new with Willall's expert help. Mainly cause of problems shipping transmissions etc instead of not having someone here to fix it. It was a total bitch so yeah. Total cost around $10,000 not covered by warrenty. So fixes on the car aren't that much but the inconvience and stress of not knowing who to deal with to fix these issues early last year = nightmare.

The peace of mind in a warrenty and having a service shop that can fix issues like lost keys, computer problems or any glitches or perhaps a broken transmission should certainly be taken into account. You don't want to have issues like "fungoolie" and have no access to a consult 3 by the sounds of it.

For instance if I drive my car hard and break transmission again its off the road for another 2-3 months + costs, where as same car would just be brand new replacement transmission again for a guy with a warrenty.

But when you save $40k on the car and plan to mod it in anyway shape or form then its well worth it to get a JDM.

BTW test drive a BMW M3 then jump in a GTR and you'll see the difference. One is a luxary sports car and the other a supercar
