I think it's disappointing that EVERYONE is cashing in on the R35 wave.

Tuners, dealers, body kit manufacturers, performance parts suppliers, ECU suppliers, the Government and so on.

Why is everything SO expensive related to the R35. I'll tell you why, it's called profiteering.

Cobbs access port R35 $995 - Infiniti $695

Cobbs downloadable maps - buy only

Haltech Platinum ECU R35 $4495 Any other $2195 - hey it's the same unit, only looms different !

Simple economies of scale.....

R&D, warranty...ton of factors influence the pricing of aftermarket parts. Every company that wants to develop products for the R35 needs to purchase or borrow test mules as a starting point. This kind of capital needs to be covered. Keep in mind also that if something should go wrong (warranty wise) with an R35 because of a faulty product, well it's alot more expensive to replace a VR38 than an RB25.

Buy the Ferrari and take everything that goes with it :)

That said, there are some seemingly generic items that see unnecessary overpricing IMO.

There is often NO warranty with aftermarket parts.

Tune it and it breaks..... often its your problem. No one elses.

But it is the same with all expensive cars... Lambo hi-flow cats....= big bucks.

For something that costs F-all!!!

Ok fellas, I've called around a few places and I think it's a bit of an issue getting the car complied and all the other hassles that come with it.

Financially, I am selling one of my houses so purchasing it in cash is going to be no issue. However, getting one imported is...I rang Nissan and apparently they've put a freeze on the importation of GTR's - why is this - can someone please explain?

Of course nissan is going to say that :)

Speak to Beer Baron on here (richard, top bloke and has bought in a few R35)

Oh quick point for all those talking about warranty to if you cant afford to break it dont buy, that is my motto for all cars im looking to buy.

I learnt the hard way when i was an apprentice.... Heavily modded 911 porsche import came up i bought it and could never afford to keep it on the road.

I said because of a faulty product, i.e. manufacturing fault. Whether warranties exist or not there is still legal liability to be had by selling someone a faulty unit. Just like oil companies are responsible if equipment goes crash and it can be proven the oil was contaminated. In the end all capital is covered by end user pricing, and given there's alot of capital involved with developing for the R35...prices are going to reflext this. As someone said before, it is also a niche market for now = market skimming rather than penetration.

    • From the pictures I have when doing the job the flywheel is the same diameter, I don't think they're playing weird tricks like putting weights at the outer diameter to increase flywheel inertia or anything like that. The OEM flywheel is definitely heavier, but it's not a huge difference. Quoted weight savings of the clutch is 2 kg so I can't imagine the flywheel being lighter than ~7 kg. Kind of regret not weighing it before the clutch went into the car but as far as driveability goes I have no complaints.
    • HKS trigger kit should be very easy to integrate with a Link. It's a 36-2 crank trigger. Hard part is finding the motivation to take off the timing belt and everything on the front of the engine to install it. You also need to cut out a hole in the oil pump housing so the sensor can read the trigger wheel. Changing out the cam sensor for a 24 tooth setup is probably good enough but as others have mentioned depending on what underlying assumptions are changed it becomes more of a problem. Reading the crank state off of the cam is an abstraction that works in the general case, but if you have an edge case it makes less and less sense. There is a GTX2860 gen 2 that can take a compact 5 bolt housing so it's direct bolt on but I'm not 100% sure of what's involved. Peak compressor efficiency drops off a bit on these turbos vs -5s, 77% vs 73% but you get way, way wider region of operation. The -5s have a really strange surge line in their compressor map that is all over the place. If you think the hot side on the -5s aren't open enough you can try the Tomei T550B turbos which a local tuner seems to be happy with:
