Well I was just cruising along, and there was a weird burning smell then BANG! a loud bang, i thought it was just backfire, but now the car has alot more power and when it gets to like 80 its alot noiser as anyone who has this car would know, the engine is very quiet

I don't want to tell my parents yet till i know what it was, and if i tell them they wil probably think i was speeding or thrashing it

The next time your Mum takes the car out, offer to go with her. She'll think you're a good lad!

Then as she starts to accelerate, you already know what it'll do if it hits 80, so get the rubber mallet ready.

If she doesn't go over 70, wait for trip back home. And on the way home, get the rubber mallet ready.

Even if she only gets to 70, ya hit the door panel with the rubber mallet and she'll say, "What on earth was that?"

So you ask her to pull over. Lean under the car and tell her what you've learned from SAUer '116.hks' "I think it's the cat!"

She says, "Where's the cat - is it hurt?"

You say, "It's what is the cat - not where's the cat? Don't you know anything????"

...you know the rest!

...you're safe!

This is one very good sounding plan.

Another option it to hope they don't really care about the extra noise and enjoy the extra power

yerh that would be nice :D

so its not bad to keep driving the car?

The only option now is to kill your parents and burn their bodies in the car. It's harsh i know, but it's unfortunately the only plan.

Or you could spend a couple of hundred bucks at a mechanic to get them to replace the cat, but that's a stupid idea.

Show some respect for other people, especially your parents, and stop thrashing their car.

i wasnt thrashing it... i was behind a slow indian so its hard to thrash a car at 40 k/m

and thanks PM-R33 so it should only cost a few hundred?

lmao and burning the car isnt a option :D

go to your mum and tell her that something happened.. obviously a POS camry lol

tell her to take it to a mech for a diagnostic.. get her to ask the mech if thrashing caused the prob.. mech should be able to tell that you did/did not thrash the car

if you indeed didnt thrash it then you have nothing to worry about.. then tell her since you were driving the car at the time you are willing to chip in as she is such a lovely lady and the greatest mother in the world for allowing you to drive her car

if you try hide it and she finds out then she's gonna suspect you trashed it.. then she'll spank you

haha yerh i told her, and my dad thinks it was because i was thrashing it :(

but my friend who works at toyota as part time apprentice said camrys arent ment to be put on gas (mum brought it dual fuel as it was a ex government car so lots of highway kms) because the compression rate is too low

so i think that would have been the cause as the car is run on gas 99% of the time

thanks heaps for your help guys, yerh she will take it after new years cos she will be on holidays by then and il pull the nicest mother in the world line when the bill comes in ;) haha and then chip in

    • It's the adhesive holding the ceramic wheel to the shaft the fails on 90% of them.
    • Foreign debris, physical shock, boost leak, could be anything honestly. The danger in taking all the timing out of a tune/hitting the R&R corner is that even if the engine doesn't detonate your turbo is taking a lot of abuse from high EGT. Also, even if nothing goes wrong it is a journal bearing that is spinning at 100k RPM on boost. Eventually it goes through enough cold start/pressure cycles to wear it out.
    • I kinda accidentally saw this, and was interested, but It actually seems to replaces the whole center computer, using the existing screen and buttons. AND it may only be for a G37 and not compatible with a Japanese 370. So its not for me, but someone else may be interested to look into it. Its about $680USD. If I am understanding it right, it basically replaces/installs and android pc that integrates with the existing screen. But I could be wrong. https://gromaudio.com/vline/ The video I first saw was the following, with very little and unclear details.     Even if your not interested in the system, the video on their site was pretty comforting in showing how simple the whole centre comes out
    • hfygrte52 what side you looking for? Do you care what color car it's off? Found a white LH side on here: https://skylinespares.com.au/product/nissan-skyline-r33-coupe-rear-tail-light/   Aussie parts place but will ship to USA. Maybe get it before there's a tarrif on 25yo shit box parts
    • I’m with Shannon’s for all 5 of our cars. Agreed values seem fair, premium price is okay. ($210 ish a month, all comprehensive).  Have claimed once with them for a not at fault claim with another car where my car had no damage. Was one call after the incident and an email after. Deemed not at fault so premium didn’t go up either.    I have called up and spoken with people who are not familiar with certain cars and didn’t agree with me on value or let their personal vehicle preferences effect the call. But called back later and got someone else who was more agreeable.
