Thanks Santa (the neverending trials of the 400,000klm, 400kw, RB30, manual swapped Stagea)

a quick update here....2 china turbos gone in 6 months (well, 1 lasted 6 months, the other lasted one week), but I have not decided to ditch them yet. I am getting the turbo core modified to run a larger thrust washer (same failure both times) and see if that works. almost went for a cheap 3040 but I just want to get it back on the road quickly, moving house atm.

also switching to gtr injectors (440cc) instead of the standard gtst ones because I've seen over 98% duty cycle a couple of times, that is too close for my comfort. the good thing about the china intake is that it has mountings for either side mount or top mount fuel rails.

Only just discoverd this. Nice work on the 30det Dunc!

Happy to see you achieved what you set out for! Perhaps you lucked out on the china turbos??? Bad batch maybe lol :domokun:

meh I don't think I am wrong on cheapy turbos. yet. It's only 2 down so far and the 2nd was clearly not right as it only lasted 1 week (warranty replacement). But I'll be happy to admit when (if?) I change my mind :domokun:

one thing I forgot to mention...fuel economy is still terrible, no better than before. i guess i could fix or improve that with a lighter foot or bigger turbo, but I just love how it goes too much :)

Yeh im with ya on the china turbos though. I had one of those super t70's ages ago when I first got my r33. It went fine for a year until the oil supply line got blocked up and starved the turbo of oil. Lol in the end it was the china supplied oil feed that killed the china turbo. I then sold it to my mate who put it on his XE falcon. He pulled the turbo apart and cleaned it out and threw it back together and it went on for another 6 months or so until the nut came off and the wheel destroyed itself!

Now I thought that was a good effort for a china turbo! I have to admit that China is getting better and better.

Yes, and no!

It's actually been off the road for about 6 months because it had a nasty oil leak on the dyno (adapter plate warped), leading to low oil pressure at full noise.

It's all been cleaned and new bearings are ready to go....it's just not getting to the fron of the list because I am building a house atm.

I'll update when it's on the road again, in the meantime we've been running around in a cube :teehee:

Wouldn't it be easier in a sphere?

BTW....got this back again lately, and it is running brilliantly. I love the surprised look when the old stagea whooses past in peak hour.

fuel useage is better now, but still poor. I haven't had it on the dyno but will post up when I do - it is running very well and making over 300kw for sure (definately makes more power than the race car it is meant to tow). Injectors are now gtr 440s, but the standard AFM is running out of resolution so I don't want to push it further - I am very happy and have no further mods planned for now.

Not until I build the new race car, anyway ;)

Santa was b8#$y slow with my RB30 - now in the car and running well but not up to race speed yet - will report fully and post up charts when its when its sorted !

I used to drool over Duncan's build while I was fitting the ff plenum. I am not that fast but am happy with what I have for the money spent.

Bob, did you go with RIPS or build something? Sorry if you have posted this before, I just can't remember.

Hi Wolverine

Can't reply to posts atm. I should have bought a Rips short block but thought it would be quicker to buy someone elses half completed engine - big mistake. Have cobbled it together with bits and pieces and it will be fine but have to pull it out again to do oil control measures as on the track it just fills the head with oil and I go out in a cloud of smoke. I know what has to be done - just thinking about getting some forged pistons while its out but money is in very short supply!

Car is much faster and I only ever wanted 300 -330awk (well I wanted 600 but figured I couldn't afford that!).

Getting some timing gear so I can post up some track times and when it is sorted I will do some club racing just for fun.

Most engine details are in my sig. I have also got a Kevlar single plate clutch, R33 GTR gearbox, R32GTR LSD and halfshafts

D2 8 pot brakes front and GTR 2 pot rears GTR master cylinder SK sway bar kit Cusco front camber and castor arms rear camber arms Bilsteins and Tein springs and a pair of Recaros (its my daily as well). Still have Setrab oil cooler wih Earls thermostat to install and a small oil cooler for the power steering

Almost there!

oh lawd the irony..

+1, genuine race cars built to rules are funny things.

Sounds fan-bloody-tastic.

Anyway....it's more stagea weather today, I need to hit the highway and terrorise some camrys.
