I wonder what happened there... why would they reverse? the only reason I can think of is they thought they took a wrong turn, and were backing up.... or they intentionally wanted the car behind to hit them, so they can gain more of a lead

That footage is sped up as well, maybe the driver thought he had taken a wrong turn and was going back, till the guy behind him confirmed he was going the right way.
