Red P Plater + Stock R32 Gtst=prohibited Vehicle!?

Recommended Posts

hey guys just wondering if im right or wrong!? :D

im on my red P's and i have a completely stock 1990 skyline r32 gtst, i got pulled over couple weeks ago and the cop told me it was a prohibited vehicle(turbo) so i coped a fine + 3 points ..mind you i was only on 2 points(lost 3 for not wearing seatbelt awhile back) which means I've lost my license!

anyway...

what i wanted to know was, is it really a prohibited vehicle? because i used to weight to ratio calculator and its not classified as a "high powered vehicle"

power: 157kw <-- if you drop that to 155 the car isnt considered a high powered vehicle

weight: 1245kg

power to weight ratio calculator:

oh and heres a link with info about skylines( where i got the weight and power)

thanks! :P

This kind of thread has been brought up over and over again...

R32 Gts-t made 157kw as stated, you can't just take an approach "yeah just drop it to 155 she'd be alright"... if the spec said 157kw then 157kw it is.

Every kilowatt counts. The car is over 125kw/tonne based on 1245kg stated so it is illegal for P plates to drive.

No turbo for Ps I'm afraid. lay off the turbo till you're off your Ps or suffer the consequences if you get pulled over...

There are R32 Gts non turbo which is an alternative that may be P-legal - they look just as good as the R32 Gtst, and even without turbo

I am sure their performance are very decent compared to most shopping carts toyotas or hyundais most other P-platers are driving.

Drive that for 3 years till you're off Ps then trade it in for R32 Gtst... that's the only way to go I'm afraid.

Red means no turbo, even something small like an astra turbo is prohibited. Under the old laws i thought that r32 was legal (power to weight), but yer its only recently been inforced i think properly. Had my 33 for 2 yrs and only now got fined.

yeh the laws have been around for ages however i think your right only recently are they really clamping down i drove my old 33 on p'z got stopped numerous times not once did i have a problem talkin 4-5 years ago now i take out my skyline and getin reemed on every street however im off p's so dont feel hard done by if ur on p's. i tend to agree that its a bit powerful for young drivers.

ALL new license means NO TURBO.

It is clearly stated on the VicRoads website... i cannot fathom how people, almost 3 years on, do not understand the rules.
