I'm installing a new headunit for my R34. The information in the forum is extremely useful and I've managed to remove the existing Jap headunit and wired up the new unit with 0 previous experience. The new unit works fine except it does not play DVD and TV because the brake control wire is not connected to anywhere yet.

So when I play DVD or TV I can hear the sound but the screen always say do not watch video while driving even though the hand brake is on. The user manual says if I want to watch video while driving I should connect the brake wire to the power negative pole OR, the brake control wire should be directly grounded.

I did some googling and found that I could:

1. Connect the brake control wire directly to a metal part that is connected to the main body of the car to ground to wire.

OR

2. I can strip the "Ground" wire that connects to the ISO port (a black wire one end is connected to the car another end connected to the headunit), and then wire the brake control wire to it.

My questions is which option is correct or neither? Any heap is appreciated.

1. Connect the head unit wire to the handbrake, this is the legal route and will only allow video to be played when the handbrake is engaged.

2. Connect the wire to the same grounding point as the head unit, video will always play no matter what position the handbrake is in, also not legal

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Is there any metal part behind the headunit that I can attach the wire to? I can't seem to find any and the wire is quite short.

It would be ideal if I can strip the "GND" wire (black colour) which one end come out of the headunit and another end is connected to the ISO adaptor, and attach the brake control wire to it (option 2 in my original post). But I'm not sure if this correct. Could you guys please verify?

By the way how can I connect the wire to the handbrake? I wanted to ground the wire in order to play DVD because I didn't know where the wire should be connected to in the first place... thanks

Just connect it to the ground wire you used for ur headunit or just connect it under the bolt where you gear stick surround is. If you wanna connect it to the handbreake you gota take off the handbrake sorround and thers a wire going from the handbrake splice into that
