Hey mate, I own both a R33 GTS4-T and a R33 GTR. My house only has enough room for one car in the garage. I put the GTS4-T in there as it's been with me the longest and I have a soft spot for it and I leave my GTR out on the drive way. Nothing's happened so far, but I guess if you have proper insurance, even if the thing does get stolen, you don't really have to worry.

However, the shiitt thing nowadays is the pricks will steal your car, strip it for parts and then will dump it somewhere not really damaged so you get your car back and you then have to go through the trouble of fixing it. There's really nothing you can do mate. As I've always said, if they want to steal your car they will.

Moreover, most people don't know the difference between a GTS-T and a GTR only car enthusiasts and Skyline fans do. So I doubt it that those scumbag thieves would steal your car because it's a GTR...they just want to strip it down for parts and interior. Nothing you can do mate. Obviously, if you have it locked in the garage then it would be much safer no doubt.

where u live i dont think u will have any problems. thieves would have u know the car is there and suss it out before they do anything and i wouldnt think u get many people passing ur house all the time

Whatever you do, get your car insured AND a good 2pt or 3pt immobiliser. I've been around this forum long enough to see/read too many sad stories over these many years where people's Skyline gets stolen from their driveway, and even worse when a lot of them aren't insured or even have proper immobiliser/alarm. And, no, where you live does not matter. All the real sad stories I've read happened just about everywhere, north, west, south, east.

There are no particular areas more prominent than others.

Most insurers will require a good 3pt immobiliser installed - black wiring overall is the best. Be wary of the influx of cheap immobiliser kits out there that are just not up to standard and not insurance-compliance. But no matter if you put a $5000 alarm system, pros will still get to your car and disable it if they want the car. That's why you need insurance. If you cannot afford the price of annual insurance, you cannot afford to keep the car in the first place, even if you can afford to buy it in the beginning. Something to keep in mind.

JustCar online quote is somewhere you should start, if you cannot afford the annual premium on top of rego and servicing cost, probably you need to re-think your priorities and car choice.

good alarm, steering lock. just back yourself up, and for god sake get full comp insurance.

security light also, i've got on for my drive, and when it comes on the light shines into my room. which is a bonus :)

LOL! ummmm not at sum times :D

Steering locks don't do a thing :D

I had one ripped off an old car years ago - and honestly if you are determined enough i can see how easily they come off.

What you guys need are hidden immobiliser buttons/switches. Any good alarm installer can setup a simple point of immobilisation with a relay ($3).

You can have it mounted off any button the car has, or even have one installed somewhere out of reach of the drivers seat. Pain in the ass yes - but impossible to find.

One thing to keep in mind is the window seals on 32/33's are getting pretty old.

If you do manage to buy one that has been garaged so seals are in good nic, one or two aussie summers and they will perish, the top of your rear seat will fade etc etc.

The idea is to find an awesome garage, and hope it has a somewhat liveable house attached to it!

seals wont matter.

if someone wants to bust a window to get in and steal, takes less than 5 seconds :)

Hell, even someone experienced with packing tape can get into a car in a matter of seconds.

So you do not worry about that, what you do worry about it what happens once your window is broken.

Basically any longer than 1min & 30 sec, if you don't have a car up and running - you are out of there if the alarm install is good and you cant disable multiple screamers etc

I lock my GTR and bike up in the garage. Sometimes i forget to put them away but i wont be doing that again after last week when someone broke into my camry and my housemates landcruiser. Nothing was stolen out of the camry but they stuffed both locks trying to get in! I cant even lock the doors now cos i wont be able to get back in! Also, I have always been worried that some lil bastard is going to debadge my car! haha

I had a dogy car parked in front of my house for a few minutes this morning and then they came back again last night...I think they're eyeing my GTR and want to steal it...I've since drove my GTR to a mate's house and asked for it to be garaged there. FFS, all these thefts happening.

this is getting insane :S i gave the garage to my mum for her car, being in summer and she's working afternoon shits, getting into a hot car isnt nice. might have to bargin with her for the garage again.

next these f**ks will be breaking into workshops, speaking of workshops, when i got visit family out in the west side, on sunday's. there is a certain workshop out there, well known on here, i will not name for obviouse reasons. i drive past around 10am on my way there, and there is 3-5cars parked outside.

on my way back around 830-930pm those cars are still there, i wouldn't be happy leaving my car at the well known workshop just for them to park it outside for all to see. . . .

Sadly my car can be seen by all the junkies riding the train... ...But it's behind a huge brick fence with a two tonne gate... ...So I don't worry too much... ...I keep it covered with a tarp most nights... ...But I drive it almost every day of the week... ...so taking that on and off gets a bit tiring... ...And I don't leave the buzzer for the gate in the car...

as mentioned before.... if they really want your car.... they will get it no matter how much you spend on immobalisers/steering locks alarms.... it will dissapear within minutes....

I think that the majority know what they are after as well... specific types of cars.. and what not...

There has been too many theft stories lately to just leave it out there to fend for itself. Unless your a very keen fiddler with security systems I would be too keen leaving it out on the street. Even then I still wouldn't be keen as theft isnt your only concern. Just as many people would deliberatly/unintentially damage it. At the end of the day it comes down to how much your car means to you. If you get nervous at the thought of a door dent at a supermarket then I would look at a nice garage before getting the GTR.

Luke

seals wont matter.

I didnt mean from a security perspective - I meant your car will look like shite after two years sitting in the aussie sun without a garage.

I know only too well how easily GTR windows are broken by thieves and louts...

    • Hey guys. I have a 400R on its way to Australia from Japan currently and have a few questions I’m hoping others may be able to help with.   Wondering if anyone here has had any luck getting the Sat nav unit to work in Australia!? Assuming the Stereo is as simple as a band expanded and tv won’t work?  Seeing as they’re based off a Q50 which is Aus delivered is there any way to link that system to the nav? Nav modules and head unit are different part numbers and appear slightly different at the rear with plug ins etc. can I put my xtrail sd card into the rv37 and will that convert the maps or update to Australian? Has anyone got any advice here?     also has anyone fitted the factory remote start and Security system once it’s landed in Australia? I put an enquirey to Nissan Japan in via a third party, and they suggested it needs a Nissan Japan dealers device to setup and couldn’t guarantee if one here could do it or not. They can supply and I can physically fit it but to setup I would need a dealers device. Any information here would be appreciated also. I’ve seen one here with it fitted already prior to leaving Japan at a dealer/inporter, so clearly passes compliance and works when fitted Japan and doesn’t need changing here.      also, does the tyre inflation sensors work here? Does anything change with them when the vehicle arrives? Where are they actually situated? I’ve read they have batteries and they need to changing at times and seems like resetting involves the nav system?    any help here would be appreciated and any other aust specific information to help would be great. Looking forward to see what the current generation skyline is like and eager to see how many of the gadgets can be utilised here.  Thanks in advance
    • Do need to take it with a pinch of salt. One of the adapter failures, they clearly had setup issues with the flywheel.  One of the slipping ones I spoke to and it was pretty clear the throwout was riding, rather than fix, just swapped to a new clutch.    These clutches are being put in anything from 5k offroad 4x4 beaters, GR yaris, 500hp commodores to 1200hp barra monsters. Bound to be some issues in some of them when they are not a simple bolt in affair due to the changes in height.    There is a lot going on in this picture and unless I did the job myself no way to tell what really happened.
    • I did this mod in 2019  You just have to modify the top bracket of the ABS/TC/Fuel Pump Control ECU so it sits more upright and closer to the back seat and run a good quality positive battery lead from the engine bay, the negative lead i just bolted down to the body in the boot.
    • Damn... Not the feedback I want to hear.
