Mods And Tuning

Recommended Posts

Hi all, hope you all had a good christmas.

recently put a new cat back exhaust on my r34 GTT and am wandering if it needs to be tuned up or anything like that, the car is pretty standard but i feel its using a little more fuel than it should.

Wanting to get a boost controller fitted but heard theyre quite pointless unless the ecu or power fc is upgraded or the old one remapped??? What psi can you run the rb25detneo at before things are needed to be upgraded??

Would love to get it up 350hp to 400hp but am not sure where to start???

In need of some new coilpacks, can you guys recomend any in particular, superspark, jjr, yellowjackets. Dont really want to be forking out $600

Any help will be great, thankyou.

mate, there is STACKS of info throughout the forums here - use the search function, its GOLD i tell ya :)

but seeing as i'm sitting here at work on the 29th of December not having to pretend to be busy with no management around:

you wont need a tune with a cat back exhaust being your only modification. As soon as you start any breathing mods, your fuel economy isnt exactly going to stay the same as standard or get any better.

if you want to progress & squeeze out potential power without spending thousands; continue breathing mods

replace the dump & front pipe, and cat to bigger / high flow items:

http://justjap.com/store/product.php?produ...=275&page=1

pod filter with heat shield/enclosure; - although some argue the standard airbox is fine

very cool DIY on making an enclosure: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Ma...at-t208224.html :P

front mount intercooler;

return flow if you want to use the standard plumbing : http://justjap.com/store/product.php?produ...=1&featured

or the more common aftermarket kits: http://justjap.com/store/product.php?produ...=339&page=1 - using this sort of kit will leave you with a hole in the passenger side of the chassis from where one of the standard intercooler pipes used to sit - maybe hook up a cold air feed from behind the front bar to the pod filter :blink:

boost controller - if you want the standard turbo to have a long life, best to not set boost over 12psi. Some say you can go a touch higher with it, but fact is it will die a lot easier.

'cheap' like the budgie (but quite effective): http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Turbotech-manual-tu...=item33584de91b

or a good EBC: http://justjap.com/store/product.php?produ...=302&page=1

you should get away with a nice little increase in power with these mods, but dont expect good fuel economy - fuel economy and turbo skyline should not be used in the same sentence in my opinion. (lol). Especially with a standard ECU.

as for your coilpacks - only change them if they are failing. the standard coilpacks are just as good as aftermarket ones. As for aftermarket - i went with supersparks in my previous r33 - good as gold.

If you are running copper spark plugs, change them regularly - i change mine at each service

if you can throw more coin at it;

power FC. take it to the tuner to install, tune and achieve best tuning results (taking your current engine hardware limits into consideration).

more power? Z32 Air Flow Meter, bigger Fuel Pump, Turbo Upgrade? Injectors? Forced Induction Performance
