good result. What did the turbo cost? im tossing up at the moment hypergear or CGC. Cant bloody decide. Hows the response as compared to a stock turbo?

The one that I bought cost me 1080 at the time with the oil line and ye it hits full boost at 3900 so not to bad ofcouse not as responsive as a stock one , but yeah they both do good jobs so it just comes down to your decision but I think hypergear is cheaper

baset- Thanks but im in the same boat as you cant drive cause dont have my lincese back atm lol so thats so annoying just having to look at it for another 5months.

Geraus-I think mine made more power then yours because mine wasnt a hi flow stao said it was a 500hp turbo with 0.63 rear. Im interested now to see what results hypergears new atr43 g3 can make.

Im still let to finish installing mine with the .63 housing. Seeing those results has gotten my hopes up as that is spot on my target. (mod list close to identical). I'm pretty sure mines the newer version though.

So you haven't got to drive it yet then? Shame. I'd love to hear feedback on how it comes onto boost (odviously slightly laggier then standard), and if the turbo spool sounds different compared to the stocko.

Yeah keep us posted on how your one goes when its done, where you gettings it tuned? well I havnt driven it but I got someone else to drive it and once comes onto boost pulls hard torque was 470nm or something it kicks you back and yeah as I said you hit full boost at 3900 , i cant remeber when the stock one hits full boost but yeah you can use that as a comparission. Tuner said could of got prob another 20kw with adding abit more timing into it but didnt do it due to variance in petrol when you refill cause if you got a bad tank cause detonation.

Sounds really good. I'll be getting it tuned at Race pace. Just waiting on some gaskets that are on order for mine.

Who really cares about such a small percentage of power for the sake of long term reliability. Good decision.

Glad to hear some good results with the turbo as they seem like a really sensible option for price and they look really good uninstalled :P

Luke

Yeah , theres not much that will perform and beat hypergear in its price range, its becoming a good alternative for those who cant get the money for garett or hks etc turbos

dude thats crazy 263kws ??? on hypergear?!?! i got 233kws on a hypergear highflow! wtf :D

but is your response the same? near the 4000rpm mark? i got a stock turbo running 12psi full boost below 3 (but only 190rwkw). Id like to keep it as punchy as possible down low... GCG any better as far as response you think?

Of course response is not going to be as good as a stock turbo. But its also ballpark 80rwkw more then a stock turbo

Considering the price tag required to get 265rwkw compared to other brand new turbos to hit similar power. Yes response isn't going to be quite as good. But 4000rpm certainly isn't over the top laggy. And there's a massive difference between $1300ish and $4000ish give or take.

I guess the only other thing that will interest me is how long they last given correct treatment (boost, cool down etc).

    • looking forward to your t56 swap man its a game changer if it works!
    • So, when are you trying the new GR86 or BRZ?
    • Uncle Duncan Yeap, FI Interchiller  Works well, normal IAT's cruising with the WTA only went from 50°c+ to 25-30°c with the interchiller  Before, when on it hard, the IAT would see 80-90°c, now, the highest has been was around 38°c IIRC IAT is measured under the blower hat I recommend it for the street or strip where your only on it hard for 10 or so seconds, but it wouldn't be efficient for sustained track use as it would heat soak from the AC turning off or whatever it does during WOT to protect the compressor It really needs the AC running for it to not heat soak and keep the WTA coolant chilled My WTA coolant temps when just cruising is around 2°c
    • Hey Mark...sorry to interrupt your career change to hair dressing... but...did you ever fit the interchiller to the commodore, and if so how was it? And, who made it?
    • I've been pondering this, I really enjoy the convertible thing, for me, it's like riding a motorbike, without all the issue of riding a motorbike, mainly, my old sore arthritic joints getting beaten up, and, being able to do it in shorts and a T-shirt and not needing a helmet and all the other gear required, especially like wearing jackets and pants in the summer, or needing 6 layers of cloths in the winter, or not having wet weather gear handy when your 100km away from home on the bike when it decides to start raining As for the hard top and its Coupe look, whilst I do lose all that open top feeling that I really enjoy, from my experience with the NB with a detachable hard top, the cabin is a much nicer place to be, the difference in noise for one, a hard top quietens down the interior, alot, with the soft top up or down it's pretty noisy, which, after 5 or so hours, can get tiring But, as you stated, the detachable hard top totally changes the look of the car, in a really good way, and for me, the look of a detachable hard top is so much better than the PRHT which looks more like a after thought with its weird bulbous rear roof line For me, the minimal effort of putting in on, or storing it after removing it, is well worth the time and effort for the look alone And yes, I'm sure the next owner will be grateful for it as well.......
