WrenchesInTheGears
hi all i have an r32 gtst and when i turn the key to start the engine the alarm goes off while it is cranking, butstops as soon as the key is released and the car does not start it was working fine until i did the following tryed removing the steering wheel that is on there (aftermarket one), no luck getting it off tho so i left it. might add that when i was trying to get it off the adjustable (kalaidascopic) steering column slipped a few times as the lever came down from all the shaking) i then went and replaced the rocker cover gaskets, the only electrical items i touched were the ignition module,(the one at the back of the valley cover, removed and unplugged) and the coilpack plugs,(unpllugged) after putting all the engine bay back together i went to start the engine and its all normal untill it actually cranks and the alarm sounds and the engine doesnt start the alarm is a cheetah alarm and the remote has 3 buttons, unlock lock annd an unknown one. has anyone else had any problem like this before Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/301815-car-wont-start-alarm-goes-off-when-cranking/ Share on other sites
R31Nismoid
sounds like you bumped wiring. It'd say the alarm is linked to your ignition/key barrell - and you would have knocked wiring when the column cover area was moving around. Luciano
just taking a stab here - have you tried resetting your car alarm? say if there is any override switch / earthing tab / etc - check your alarm manual/documentation (if you have it). seen a very similar issue recently happen to a mates car when one of his battery terminals was loose and came off while driving; car shuts down - he checks battery, reconnects terminals, goes to re-start and take off, but the alarm constantly sounds and immobilises the engine from starting, no matter how many times he tried disarm the alarm with the remote control. After a couple of hours messing around with it (and around 5 different mates coming past to try and work it out), finally read the alarm manual/documentation and read up on using the override function. Solved the problem Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/301815-car-wont-start-alarm-goes-off-when-cranking/#findComment-5008782 Share on other sites
blind_elk
Do you have an alarm with battery backup? If you do, the 'start' process is draining the car's battery to the point that it cannot keep enough voltage to the alarm siren. The siren thinks the battery has been disconnected, and "goes off", using its own battery for power. When you stop cranking, external voltage is restored to the alarm siren, and it turns off. The symptoms are coincidental. Did you have the stereo going while you were doing all this work on the car? Try jump starting the car. But you may well need a new battery.
