Hey all i am thinking about selling up my skyline i have had it for 12 months and never had any mechanical drama at all and the only issue i have had was when i was defected by the epa. It is a s2 r33 with 130 000 km and it is in pretty good nick and currently is putting out 175 rwkw. How ever it just needs a general tidy up and has minor hail damage here the list it will need for me to be completely happy with it.

Paint front bar and guards. $500

Fix the big dints in the door looks like some has tryed to break into it. $200

Replace alarm as it is playing up. $450

sub and amp are out dated and sub is damaged from me putting a vcr through it lol. $350 or so

Fitt the hyper gear turbo i have and power fc and z32. i already have these

Buy injectors and fuel pump. $1100

And the last things i want to do is put a verex muffler on it to help out with the cops $400

Sett of new wheels and decent tyres $1800 to $2000

Now thats alot of coin to finish it but i also realise it doesnt have to be spent all at once. when on the other hand that money can be put towards a new car i would only sell it or trade it towards a s15 spec r gt.

Now my question to you guys is what do you think the best option is to go for the s15 that is 5 years newer and cheaper to run and doesnt seem to get as much cop attention or keep the skyline and finish and it never be worth over $12000 to $13000 with all the work done but it will be a quick street car. Money is not a huge issue for me atm but i am aiming to buy a house in the next couple of years. I am going to go have a look at a couple of s15's this weekend and hopefully it can help make up my mind what does everyone think

cheers scottie

really you should keep the skyline and dont fix it and save your money towards the house where you will gain value unlike the car and when you got some spare coin do things step by step but i think the house should come before you fix the skyline or you sell it for a s15

keep the skyline.

with your current one, condition wise you'd be lucky to get 10k for it in todays market :P

s15's are high teens...insurance will be more (due to the value) and infact running costs will be similar to the r33.

save money for your house deposit :P

yeah i know about the house deposit i got a good size one now just shy of my 10 % i need but i am saving anywhere up to $500 a week so money is not a huge concern. And yeah i know the resale valve for skylines has hit rock bottom really my mates r33 is mint and had thousands spent on it even tho we are mechanics and made it heaps cheaper to do no one has called him about his car and his got $13 000 on it. I dont know as far as keeping the skyline and that is concerned i guess i want something abit newer and i am lazy and dont want to spend the time on the skyline i guess and i have no where to do work on it. I am still going down to sydney to have a look at a few s15's but thanks for everyones advice.

I'm in the same boat mate. I'm flogging mine off for $6k to a mate, which I'm devastated with, but hey, real estate is the wiser decision so you kind of have to bite the bullet at some point...

If anything, keep it, if you've got the space, don't drive it and let the rego lapse, and deal with it later on when yu've bought your house and are in a position to get back into cars.

yeah mate that sucks ass about flogging it off to a mate and they are worth so much more than $6000 since they are a much better choice than say a commie or a falcon. With my situation as far as getting a loan for a car and a house loan is its not a problem i am in the very lucky position of having a very very secure job for the next 5 years and how ever much longer i chose to stay there and having a awesome credit ratting to with genuine savings history for the last 18 months so i am in a extremely good position financially. So yeah i dont know of course the best decision financially is to buy a house and putt my money into that however i am only 23 i havent been on a proper holiday in 10 years and i have never been oversea's so i guess i am looking to have fun with my money which i have never had before really before i lock myself in for such a committment as a house for now.

Buy some hot valve covers :bunny: > does wonders > you'll enjoy washing it again.

If one is that desperate for an overseas trip to the Croatian & Greek Islands in the Med; a more mercenary person (than I) would ensure that the 'agreed value' insurance is up to date, park it around a blind corner on Comenarra Parkway on a moonless, rainy night and check on the damage next morning.

Yep keep the 'Line and save heaps on your mortgage further down the track!

Unless you have your heart set on an S15. I wouldn't change. Especially considering in 5 years time you'll have the exact same argument you have now. Resell value etc. As for all the other running costs etc. It would be negligible considering you would have this new car and think. Ok. I need wheels, exhaust, stereo, turbo etc to be happy. Then all of a sudden your in exactly the same position you are now.

Id stick with the Skyline. Get the Aesthetic fixes done first, install the power fc. Start saving for wheels. You say money isnt a huge issue. So I would focus your saving on the house loan. Maybe try and put $50 or so per week aside purely for the car with everything else you can spare away from living into the house loan. Do the car in stages so at least 1 section is complete for you to enjoy whilst you prepare for the next bit. If things get tight you have the turbo and z32 that you could sell if you needed to, otherwise hang on to those until you know your ready to take the plunge with the injectors and pump.

You can do both. Just you wont be able to achieve everything with the same speed. Im not sure how old you are but my opinion is keep working on the car. As long as the house is paid off by the time your 40. (I have every intention of having a mid life crisis and a house loan will only hold me back. :) )

Luke

LOL Mid life crisis is at least 25 years away for me lol but yeah i know where your coming from and yes i will have my house paid off before than hopefully. And yeah it is a good idea to park the car on a blind corner when its been wet and hope some hits it but than the question arrises why was it parked there lol i rather not have to worry about those sorts of questions. But thank you all for your oppions

Check E-Bay r33's never sell and if they do its not for much.

Im in the same boat do i spend more on it or just leave it prob leave and then

get rid of it later to buy a gtr. No mater how much you spend its never the same

unless its got that gtr badge on it...

you'll get nothing for the skyline at the moment, people are holding out for desperate sellers and offering nothing for them, only way to get rid of it is to swap it for another JDM at a car yard and get an S15 that way...

other than that you will be insulted by the offers.

I'd keep the skyline and save, leaVE the exterior things and luxuries like the sub ect.... just maintain the engine

Ive driven a fairly standard S15 and was a great car to drive.

looks new and interior is new also.

but the 33 isnt that old looking inside either neither outside.

has all the power options that a s15 has too.

I had a 33 S2 and sold it at $12,000 (new owner changed rego from qld to vic)

then on top of that i lost more money removing mods to replace with standards (lent parts) to get a RWC

then parts put back on ($1200)

in conclusion getting $11,800

I had alot of people make stupid offers.

and it was very hard to sell because so many 33's are on the road.

I believe that unless you are going to buy another car to enjoy and mod up or whatever.

keep the 33 and save for a house.
