Whacko Speedo

hey all just wonder in if anyone has encountered this:

drivin along at say 60, with 2000 rpm, then suddenly speedo says 100 km/h and rpm at 6000 when i haven't planted it like a hoon....lol

then speedo, tacho and temp gauge all register 0 or the lowest point it can and the odometer is blank...anyway to stop this would be appreciated (obviously) i have a gps to tell me my speed but it just isn't as reliable as the speedo lol
