Evo 8mr/9 Or R34 Gtr

Recommended Posts

well im selling my GTT and im looking for a car that i can drive as a daily (as i have been with my 34) and drive it down to the track with little to no changes, do my thing and drive it back home (if i havent put it into a wall or anything lol) so i started looking at an evo. at first i was looking at an evo 8 MR but seeing that forking out a little bit more gets me into an evo 9. its newer and has all the things the 8 mr has and maybe a little more (still reading into this).

but i have always been a skyline person and my mates made me realise and are changing my mind and pointing me towards an R34 GTR and ye i LOVE the GTR's. to me both are awesome cars. both will keep me happy. i dont know which way to go. my budget has slowly been increasing lol but have set it now in concrete between $45-$50k

help me decide plox :P

not going to do much performance base mods apart from exhaust, breathing and cooling. i will focus more on handling mods for whatever the next car will be.

ta

Ash

Definitly go the R34 GTR, obviously comming from the skyline background you will not be dissapointed, and they more rare on the streets and alot more admired than the evo, obviously we all know that it will sound and look better than the evo

A mate has an EVO8MR and it impressed me with how it drove for a small car. It still seems practical enough that you can go to the shops and buy your groceries with, yet its still pretty quick.

But, in comparison the R34 GTR there really is no contest. The R34 gtr is way more comefortable, and around a short or medium track (up to 200k's) the R34 is a faster car. Even in standard tune an R34 GTR is quicker than an Evo8MR in lightly modified tune.

This was proven at a recent track event we had where a standard R34 GTR Vspec was 2 seconds faster around our bitumen sprints track. The Evo 8 on the other hand was running improved suspension as well as 18lb's of boost and a ralliart ecu. Both cars were on bridgestone street tyres. To a degree it comes down to the driver, but the car sure does make a hell of a difference.

go the evo

GTR's are for real men anyway, just kidding

I respect the Evo for what it is & can acheive but as far as looks & performance go I'd pick the R34 GTR over the EVO8/9 anyday

they're just not my cup of tea

GTR for the win, the EVO to most people will always be a girly ass lancer with a body kit. While the GTR is a purpose built weapon and lets face it looks wise the Evo is a ugly duckling

lets be fair tho.... to most people the GTR is just a shitbox skyline with a bodykit...

pretty tough call there joey wheelbarrow. If i thought for one minute a skyline was a shitbox I wouldnt own one. Sure some people turn them in to shit box's but they certainly dont begin life that way.

Evo = lancer with a body kitand some incredible driving aids.

34 gtr is simply that. A skyline R34 gtr. Not a rehash of something else but a stand alone car in its own right.

no dis to the evo. they are the new skyline as far as people buying import performance cars, but no evo can hold a candle to the looks of a wickedly setup GTR.

Howdy All.

I've owned a modded Black Evo IX with 260kws at all 4s for the last two years and it's been an awesome car. But I'm looking at selling this and getting an 02 GTR VSpec II or Nur. I'm looking for more power.

Evo 9

Fastest street cars vs $$$ for mods/gains upto about 220rwkw. They are more responsive, lighter etc.

For a 220-260awkw, they are very fken fast (which is a GTR's 260-300rwkw). If you want more power in the even, simply change the turbo. Piece of piss and you are making nearly 500hp

There is no way a R34GTR is going to be faster with a tune/boost than a EVO. I've been in both, EVO is faster withoua a doubt.

10 years of technology has some advantages.

I think I'm in a pretty good position to answer this one lol

My Evo 8 is running 20psi and some supporting light mods, and would get 3-4 carlengths on my GT-R in any given gear before the GT-R came on boost. Evos love high boost and they are monsters for response and mid-range torque. If going for runs through twisties is your thing, then an Evo is pretty hard to beat. If your favourite road mostly consists of corners taken in 3rd gear or higher, a GT-R is the weapon of choice.

If you need the car as a daily, then an Evo 8 or 9 is a brilliant car. If you want a weekend toy, then I'd choose a GT-R. I always feel a sense of occasion when I get into the GT-R, it's a feeling that I've never felt in the Evo. In the GT-R every drive feels special.

You can import a very tidy Evo 8 MR for around $35K these days, where decent R34s with genuine kms will still hit you up for $50K or more to import one yourself, so that difference alone is worth considering. $15K buys an awful lot of mods :woot:

You mentioned the car will be used as a daily plus the occasional track days. Evo hands down, simple as that. I've driven both and Evo's are much easier to drive as a daily. On a small track like Wakefield, a lightly modded Evo will whoop ass over a similar tuned GT-R that's for sure. Both I have experienced on Wakie as well.

But at the end of the day, a GT-R will always be in my garage no matter what. Like Master Chef said, ever drive is always a special and memorable experience in a GT-R, but that's probably because it's only a weekend car.
