My mate who owned a worked V8 ute said the majority of modified imports would pull away from him off the mark, right up until 100kph. Then he'd really come into his own and start hauling ass. Problem was most people hit the speed limit, stop and think they've won.

Now I'm not suggesting you go out dragging like my mate, but if you do want to have a bit of fun on the street the GT-T is going to be much more enjoyable.

Only time my mate ever took out other cars was when they'd harass him on the freeway at which point he'd easily "munch" them, as he put it.

My mate's Evo was similar. It was pretty stock, and all he'd have to do was bounce the limiter, side step the clutch and nothing was keeping pace with him within the speed limit.

Yeah, some of my mates are idiots.

IF THE FORD IS SO GOOD WHY ARENT THEY BEING EXPORTED TO JAPAN AND EVERY OTHER COUNTRY THAT HAS SKYLINES

and why is ford dumping this engine in favour of the new jag engines, because its just another dinosaur is why, its not and never will be the new GODZILLA..

So you can either buy a piece of motorsport history, or you can buy a ford with a turbo...Seems like a no brainer to me :)

IF THE FORD IS SO GOOD WHY ARENT THEY BEING EXPORTED TO JAPAN AND EVERY OTHER COUNTRY THAT HAS SKYLINES

Ford USA has repeatedly stated that they're not interested in an export program for the Falcon. The thing would sell gangbusters in the USA (just like the Monaro/Commodore, which shits all over most of their domestics in the handling stakes while still having the same powertrains), and even in the UK I know plenty of Ford fans who need a four door sedan, but don't want a bum-dragging Mondeo, and look wistfully at the XR6T and XR8.

If superceding an engine that's been around for several decades is a sign that its a piece of shit dinosaur, wouldn't that make the RB equally as bad? It's not like they're present in any modern Nissan either.

Why don't you try opening the other eye, and actually seeing the world how it is?

Buy a Jap car.. FPV's are just taxi's with bodykits on them.

All I've had from ours is way too much money - Over priced and way too much of a headache!

QUALITY - NOT QUANTITY!

Get the FPV. Cheaper parts, can actually fit people in it, cheaper insurance, look better and has heaps more potential with minimal spending on modification.

You have to be kidding right..

FPV's are more expensive on parts more money to spend on to get anything out of them.

Insurance doesn't count because no two people who own the same car will have the same premium amount.

I know this from experience and because I work in the industry.

hmm, the ford is just as much a piece of motorsport history as the skyline is...

also ford isn't dumping the engine because of any fault with the engine. At the end of the day Ford Australia needs to make money and its american parent company pretty much makes the decisions there. They could continue to spend R&D $$ to develop the existing straight 6 further or they can re-use the R&D spent on the new engines in their other cars and save money. Most manufacturers these days are moving all of their cars onto a single platform and ford is no different. Its not rocket science.

There's nothing wrong with the 4L ford engine, just have a look at how much power they can handle in the xr6t's and also how many kms most taxis get out of them. But in reality there are just better engines at ford's disposal that will save/make them money and thats what businesses do to survive.

Dont forget ford have their racing pedigree too as you can see in almost every racing category.

Having said all that, I'd prefer the R34 if I didn't need the extra doors/legroom/space. Its not all about which one is faster or any of that. I just prefer the drive in Nissan imports and I find all locally made cars quite boring. Who cares if it doesn't accelerate as fast as your mates worked SS? I'd rather a car I'm not going to be bored of in a month and one that I'll still enjoy driving 2 years from now. That will depend on your interests...which is why I reckon go with the car that interests you more, not necessarily with the one thats better/faster/etc.

That is irrelevant if they are using the same platform for everything from 'Mum's car to go to the shops with', to 'tough turbo street car for Bogans'.

It basically means the platform is an utter mediocrity by definition.

I too have seen them running awesome times, theres a guy in qld will build u a 9 second package for about 15k

but have also heard they have major issues with the head especially, and gearboxes, they dont seem to like being thrashed , also there a tank when compared to a skyline, the BA anyway, the FG is a better car....G6Et would be my choice too , nice classy looking car that one...

I Still reckon the v8 is :) dont care what the times say, it just is

what head issues ? i have never heard of anyone having an issue, ever with the stock head. only valve springs which are a drop in replacement. the early 4 speed auto on the ba were crap, even after being rebuilt. but the zf 6spd is pretty bulletproof upto around 400rwk. heres a dyno sheet from an fg f6, stock cams but with headwork and valve springs.

GTT For sure,

Who cares what the Ford is capable of! ITS A FORD - Built like crap

I have a mate who works for Ford - it never ceases to amaze the stuff that goes wrong.

Also how could you live with the fitout? I mean it looks like they've let a child run rampant with material and plastic! Horrible things they are.

end rant

*looks at dyno* ... Almost vertical 400kw jump in 1000rpm - sounds like that would be just about unusable on the street. Dyno Queen?

yer, pretty much. it has run down the 1/4 once but snapped the axles pretty quik. some custom stuff is being made up.

Agreed although my old non-turbo s13 was slow as hell it was still fun to push it through the corners in a way that no 1.7t falcon could ever do even after suspension work.

haha how unusable for a street application though, maybe OP should buy an LS1 powered Holden Adventura since they are an AWD

I'd say looks like a very stupid setup they have there i'd prefer the stock motor with 1/3 of the power but about 30x the driveablility and fun when it comes to street use

In that case, this car is doomed:

Thats a racing car i was not talking about racing cars.. As i said in a later post in the future we will be in hybrid, electric and smaller capacity if an combustion engines. i mean there is even a rumor about a hybrid GTR.

Dead is probley a bad word but there are not to many affordable V8 cars anymore apart from holden and ford. And what will happen if for go ahead with plains to go FWD as the ceo hinted at.

At the end of the day i don't dislike V8s as the family used to own a few (except v8 supercars but lets not start, Go back to the old format stock cars, all classes and just bigger tyres) i just don't see the point in paying more rego and fuel when a smaller engine can do the same thing.
