Couple Of Stupid Questions

Hey all, just got a couple of Q's that might sound stupid but they've been bugging me for ages, on my S2 there's a little button right side of the steering wheel and bellow the dash with the pic of a wind screen with a squiggly line through it, it has a light thats constantly on even when I push it, but I can here a relay switching when I do, firstly what is the button for? side mirrors, back/front windows?? and secondly is it stuffed if the light is always on and wont turn off? next is the rear view mirror when I change between day and auto theres absolutely no difference but the little light that tells u what setting its on works is my mirror stuffed too??

The button is for the heater at the bottom of the windsceen to unfreeze the wipers. It could be faulty or maybe your windscreen has been replaced at some point without the necessary element. My mirror heaters come on with the rear window demister switch.
