Hey guys.

Just thought id do a quick post regarding the first night of the year.

Last night about 12:00. Bunch of kids managed to get there VN/VP commodore sideways around the corner near my house. Needless to say, the tail snapped back and put there car off the road and lodged into the only tree we have in our front yard (thankgod it only got the tree). I was a bit slow getting out of the house (bit ugly on myself for not rushing now), by the time I got out a couple of neighbours were already out there. And the driver and his 2 friends had done a runner into the darkness.

Car hit the tree on the drivers side roughly near the front wheel and crushed the dash against the windscreen. Shock horror. There was a beer can stuck behind the steering wheel on the dash as well. Driver odviously hurt himself however the other 2 were fine.

Police came and after a short search the kids were found. Turned out to be a 15 year old driver. His own car. But he "found" the number plates on the side of the road (And put both front and rear plates on upside down), police said they had also pulled the car up 2 days earlier with diff driver hence why they had a good feeling they knew which way they ran.

Either way. Tow truck rocked up just before 2 am to remove the car which the front drivers side was completely mangled. Definite write off. Luckily the damage for us was just some dirty black marks on the road outside our house, some dug up grass on our nature strip and the tree lost some bark. Lol at how little damage it took to destroy the car. Just need to pick up all the glass in our front yard now.

Just a quick vent. We get so many late night hoons near our place. All they need is a few speed bumps but it will nether happen. Just another tick in the Bendigo Hoon capital of Victoria box to help hurt the people who try to do things properly.

2nd vent. God I wish I got my ass into gear quicker to get out there to throttle em. Quite shitty at myself actually.

3rdly. Thank god they got the tree and not the house. The wife and I were out there today considering putting in a hedgey garden out the front with the plants hiding Metal Bollards in concrete for a bit of extra protection. (She been scared this would happen for over a year now.)

Didnt get any photos that turned out due to the dark. But just imagine a very old tired looking Silver VNish commodore with half the front and side mashed in and the number plates upside down.

Luke.

VN commodores.....Must take the Gold medal for being the worlds worst handling car..Add a boozed up teenager behind the wheel and sooner or later somebody will die. Hopefully these stupid kids learn their lesson

That just jogged my memory of something i witnessed on NYE after i left where i was, so probly round 1:30am

Skyline (r33 maybe? lol was too drunk) pulled into the servo we were walking past, followed by a highway patrol car, skyline kid hangs his head all the way out the window, looked absolutely off guts, looks at the HP car behind him, guns it out of the servo and boosts it up the road, Highway car in pursuit of course.

JUST what the skyline drivers in wollongong need :geek: was quite an amusing thing to see at the time time however, it just happend so quickly, or my mind was just working too slowly :P

Funny thing its allways VN's.

My folks live on a street that has a nature strip with a creek running down the middle that then goes under another road into a river, has a wicked bend half way down the street, have seen one VN come flying down, hit the curb flip, go between 2 tree's and land on its roof in the creek, was awesome to watch, both people got out OK, second time someone actually made the corner but not the stop at the end and ended up in the river.

Both VN's.

Maybe if you want to be a stunt driver you have to start your career in a VN?

You wont want speed bumps. Seriously. They Make a hell of a racket every time someone drives over it. Kinda like a "thump" as each pair of wheels hit it.

It gets frustratingly annoying. And is surprisingly loud. Not noticed when your driving of cousre, but when one is outside your house and down your street. Its like thunder.

You'd be better off with some tight chicanes or something like that..

But glad to hear that the tree saved your house! And that they were caught.

Lol. So completely True

They wont learn their lesson. Even the cop said they will get away with it. The courts don't do shit. Suspended sentence, maybe a half hour community service. Not to mention the street they come from is well known for throwing rocks at cars when they drive past as well as a police standoff with a dad threatening his kids a few years back. Not many useful individuals come out of that area.

To the people that care. The tree is doing well. No falling sap, just lost a bit of bark and seems to be ready and waiting for the next challenger. :geek:

Incredible.

Council style log fence with hedge growing around it would do the job, and be pretty cheap IMO.

I don't think that would be enough to stop a 1.7 tonne car. Maybe in the interim some sort of fencing would help, but I think you should plant a couple of trees in the front yard to give protection in the long term. Plus, fencing is ugly if it is tall, solid and impervious imo.

I would recommend the following types of vegetation, personally:

Eucalyptus Melliodora (Yellow Box)

Eucalyptus Leucoxylon (Yellow Gum)

Eucalyptus Corymbia (Red Gum)

Perhaps some smaller Acacia Impleca (Lightwood).

In addition to providing a level of protection, the planting of these trees would provide some screening of the property from the street and provide shade, habitat etc for native animals. My house is covered in large native trees, and the bird are simply beautiful. Very calming and relaxing to sit on the verandah and listen to them going about their business. Feels like i'm in the bush, yet i'm still only 30 mins from the CBD.

Yeah, those council logs aren't designed to stop run away vehicles etc, just designed to deter people from driving in. Someone crashed coming out of a corner near our place, they musn't have been going all that fast either, but managed ti wipe out 4 of the poles.

Yeah, we are focusing on our backyard for same reason. Very peaceful. Just need to make a few birdfeeders to encourage more to come visit.

I'm not a big fan on most fences either. Rather do the job with plants. A few nice large thick shubs with some 1/2 metre steel bollards held in by a dollop of concrete. That way the thick shubs will grow over the bollards and conceal them so it wont look ugly.

I think this is the plan we are going to stick with.

It is better then my wife's initial plan (before this happened) of creating a set of spikes concealed by shrugs aiming upwards on a 45 degree angle like a set of spears to stop a cavalry charge. I told her she would end up in jail if anyone every actually ended up in the garden. Love those ideas that were never truely thought about.

lol @ trying to explain to a judge why you bashed them :P

Easy, you just say your missus ran out to help, they were drunk and accosted her, then you protected your missus from the aggresive drunk people who turned their attention to you. Must remember to give them first aid and call a ambo for them as this is a real winner with the law.

Same senario can be used for graffitti painters, substitute drunk for "they were acting crazy"

The cops really dont care to much if you touch up idiots as long as you dont cause to much work for the police, because the way the law is the cops cannot touch the filth but they will generally back you if you do.

similar thing happend near my house. however it wasnt hooning. picture the street as a T. so two streets realy. the driver was in something similar to the council road repair trucks. so a decent sized heavy thing. anyway the poor bloke driving had a heart attack at the wheel and drove straight through the stop sign into the house. the house had to be demolished. luckily no one in the house at the time but if there was a sturdy tree they would not have to rebuild.

also you get a big fence or somthing like that sure you have privacy but it also works the other way around. people can walk about your property without having to worry about being spotted.

Ban Commodores from young drivers -.-

Technically this particular one being 15yo was banned

Made the front page of the local paper today. Didn't really have much useful info. Claimed the car was Daddys, failed prelim breath test, refused to go back to station for the 2nd test. Paper didn't mention the "found" plates. etc. Funnily enough also didn't mention hooning which was quite incredible for a newspaper. Too busy focusing on drink driving.

    • I would not be surprised if you are the only person on earth that has the interest/desire to do that lol.  The Haltech base map is a really good starting point, the car will fire easily and drive very well, even on mild boost levels. To me, following your advice sounds like some sort of ancient Chinese water torcher lol (this is not an insult Josh, never change <3)
    • Those car show concepts from the 2000's and 2010's like the Floria and IDx were brilliant and should've gone ahead, at least one of them. But neither Honda nor Nissan are thinking about affordable performance any more, which is truly sad.  Even if Toyota's liquid hydrogen ICE development reaches the point where it's commercially viable and the infrastructure to support it, Honda/Nissan would have to wait until Toyota allow fee access to their patents to offer it with any smaller performance models they released to take advantage of it.
    • A sporty manual RWD coupe with a IL4 Honda engine would only be a good thing I assume we won't see anything released for a few years though, unless informal talks and designs have been going on for a few years,  and due to the current, and future, emmisions and safety requirements, I assume anything "sporty" they would do would be at least some hybrid thingie And hopefully anything they are thinking of has nice lines, without lots of plastic and fake bits hanging off it like that horrendous FK8 that looked like it was designed by a 13 year old The other issue of course in the current market is cost, currently the type R is around $70k, a twin is around $50k Meh, I'm old and grumpy and would rather buy a older model car and waste my coin on that than buying anything currently available new
