«Cyph3r»
1JZ needs rebuild???? 2day i pulled all the plugs on my toyota and noticed when removing the plug for cylinder 2 (2nd from the back) it had a coat of engine oil on it So it seems things just keep getting better. I am going to do a compression test to check all cylinders properly but at this stage looks like i'm up for a rebuild. I am leaning towards waiting till i can afford a set of forged pistons and rods etc.... does anyone think i should bother or just replace the rings as long as the rest of the internals are fine. I just got told that it could be a valve stem seal. IS there anyway to tell which it is without pulling the head off? Thanks guys Jamie Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/30237-engine-troubles/ Share on other sites
CrazyMan
yep, on the right track, do a compression test, and if only one is down, could be the rings. if a couple of cylinders adjacent to each other are down, id be suggesting a head gasket.check for bubbles in your coolant, and/or water in your oil. A valve stem seal cant really cause low compression, but if the valve isnt seating right, that will. if there is a lot of oil on the plug, good chances are it is the rings. check for bubbles in your coolant, and/or water in your oil Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/30237-engine-troubles/#findComment-615609 Share on other sites
CrazyMan
another thing is aquirt a bit of oil down the spark plug hole, and then compression test it again. if the reading goes up, i'd bet on rings Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/30237-engine-troubles/#findComment-615615 Share on other sites
«Cyph3r»
thanks crazyman ..... btw i meant 2nd cylinder back from the front of the engine bay. Also the engine oil was unburnt when i pulled the plug. The car had been not run for a week.
