Hey guys,

Had a tyre blow out the other night....don't know why as it still has heaps of tread left is driven nicely. Anyways I'm thinking of buying a package with rims, but not sure where the best places in Melbourne are for this. I'm from Sydney and there's quite a few there but haven't seen all that many here. Where do you all recommend?

Also, does anyone have a tool to remove locknuts? Only just discovered the locknuts when I wanted change the tyre. The last wheel shop that i bought them off never gave me the unlock tool

thanks

since you mention "mags" i assume your after some basic wheels hit up bob jane or the tyre factory,

if you want some decent wheels go to importmonster.com.au or j-imports.com.au might cost you a bit more but your car will be thousand times better looking.

Thanks. I mean rims - something like Lenso's etc. As much as I'd love some jap rims, don't really have 4k to spend on them. I don't think Bob Jane or anywhere like that would have what i'm after. In Sydney they have Tempe Tyres & Australias Best - like those places is why I'm after. Will check out the sites you mentioned.

Yeah TTF is a decent place.. Have bought 2 sets from there.. Big range (depends which branch I suppose) dandenong branch has a few choices.. And as for price , if u go to the dandenong one and tell them ure paying cash, they're pretty good with prices. Bought a set of 18" with Tyres, Price asked was $2200 and ended up getnvthem for $1650 . So yea.. Happy shopping!

Tyrepower Hawthorn are dealers for most jap rims, are had most new in stock or on the way. 17x9+22 RE30, CE28N, TE37 was 2900-3100 NEW.

also have many other brands if that is higher than what you want to pay, service is great there. great range of tyres and wheels at great prices on anything.

I just recently bought some wheels. Best prices you'll find in Melbourne I reckon are at Advance Tyres

http://www.advancetyres.com.au/ - these guys are seriously cheap and will give you an ace price up front

I ended up buying from Donnellans in Box Hill for the same price after I told them the price I got at Advance but only reason I got them there is becuase they were closer. The both have a great range and Jap stuff like RAYS too.

www.jessestreeter.com

Speak to Jesse, he can source any Jap rims from any manufacturer, as he lives over there, for better prices than anywhere I have seen.

Plus, if you find something on Yahoo Auctions, he can bid on them for you too.

if you go to TTF in Dandenong do not let them put the wheels on your car. buy it and get it balanced and all butt hats it. last 5 cars iv sent in there we got the car back with cross threaded studs, damage to front bar of car, damage by rolling wheels across the workshop which went of track into one of our cars, dropped a torque wrench on the bonnet, grease mark in the interior. most of it was fixed by them but after a lot of unneeded hassales

and i can keep going on and on and on. they have a good range of wheels you can get for cheap but customer service is shit and they do not care about customer cars unless your spending a stupid amount there.

if you do go there and get them to do the work at least stay back and watch them working on your car making sure they don’t f**k up the simplest things

Exactly :D

Aaron @ Import Monster (www.importmonster.com.au). SAU forum sponsor, also a memember of the SAU-Vic club.

Always good pricing and service - and you actually deal with a face, not a computer if that's how you like to operate :)

They also have a retail shop front in Bayswater. So you can see and touch the wheels before you buy.

Hell, you can even tell him you want to put several wheels next to the car to have a look - he loves doing that - i go there and do it quite a bit ;)

Obviously he is not going to be as cheap as some person in Japan that has no tax to pay, no laws to abide by - but at the same time if you get fked over - you don't have a leg to stand on.

So i've always been happy with ole Aaron & his service. I do have issues with his wheel choice on his own GTR - but that is another issue...

You are only going to be spending big $$ when you source rare wheels and/or new ones.

2nd hand ones generally are pretty cheap - it then comes down to how much coin you are spending on tyres.

My tyres alone (17") were around the $1200 mark - almost as much as the rims if i recall correctly :D

I'm guessing this is referring to Jesse?

If so, he actually sent my rims before I had even made a full payment, same with dezz and countless other people I know.

IIRC, he actually supplies to a few of the NS sponsors, among others.

    • I would paint match the whole thing to avoid unwanted attention  I had a similar bonnet, paint matched, on my old R33 GTST, but mine was a fibreglass jobbie made by Blitz in QLD, they work extremely well for radiator efficiency and under bonnet temps

    • small update time, after always wanting a "cool" looking bonnet for my car and always struggling to find one for the series 2 that i liked and wasn't an insane amount of money. Saw one i liked on RHDjapan from D-speed in Japan the price was very good for a carbon bonnet so good infact i was a little unsure how much i trusted it, decided to bite the bullet and with the help of jesse streeter in not long at all it was at my door. Once it was delivered i ran in from work and quickly unboxed it and to my surprise the quality was actually pretty good i quickly removed the old bonnet and placed on the new one to test it out and even the fitment wasnt too bad at all. Then decided to paint the little grille in the bonnet black to stop it sticking out so much.   I decided to not mess around with the hood latch and just install some aero catch hood pins, having never installed them before did some YouTube university classes and i was good to go. fair to say it is not a fun job at all from making brackets so the pins sit nicely and actually cutting through the bonnet but also being very scared of cutting the holes too big it took wayyyy longer than i would like to admit but finally got it there. Then it was time for a quick test drive to ensure the latches actually worked and thankfully the bonnet looked very stable. I still think paint matching the bonnet and leaving just the part that sticks up as carbon would help make it all look alot neater as im not sure how i feel about all that carbon on a very fridge white car but will leave it as is and see how i feel with time.
    • I think it's bound to happen, you finally get it all perfect, and bam, something will happen. I took a while to get a Commodore rear quarter repaired where a P Plater clipped it. Two days after getting it back, Sarah wiped it out on a concrete pillar in an underground car park... This is why I take forever to repair them, it stretches how long until it gets bent again... 😛
    • Nah, not really responsible for that little fiasco, but I'm still pissed at myself for writing off my 86, or when I reversed my VX into a pole just before selling it, but, meh, 5hit happens to stuff, all it takes is a slight distraction, and life is full of distractions, and "dooh" moments
