I would be very afraid of asking that question, very

it isn't so bad. Not sure about current prices, aud has recovered a lot against yen vs where it was.

I expect 6 or 7 k ?

and another 2 k more if you want the "step pro", plus (for step 2 or pro) .. HKS cylinders.

The hidden expense is having the right tuner, fitting costs (there is a lot of wiring, controller loom through firewall, etc), the probably need for an exhaust cam to match, a more expensive tune, etc. If I was to do it again I'd negotiate a combined cost with a tuner so you know they can fully tune it, and not focus on the v-cam list price so much. It definitely is not like buying an exhaust in a box then worrying about who will bolt it on!

Hey Moneypit,

Well done for persisting and solving all the issues you encountered along the way to make the V Cam work! I am glad everthing worked out for you in the end.

Impressive result on 2.6L capacity. The V Cam certainly makes engine revs pick up a lot quicker and smoother.

Did I hear someone say Racepace twin 4" is (ugly)? LOL! I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Personally I just like the stock appearance, less attention from Vic TMUs.

Cheers

Matt

Would have to agree with tangomatt on this one, looks quite bland from the back, but once up on the hoist the workmanship is to die for. Definetly no bling to be seen once the car is on the ground...

I had a HKS Hiper 3.5'' exhaust previously on my car, once the custom Racepace exhaust went on I was in heaven, especially my ears. Maybe my old age is kicking in but fu(ked if I'm driving a car with a loud annoying exhaust. Was pretty cool 5 years ago, not for me now.

Good luck with it all moneypit, definetly like your list of mods and nice choice on the engine too....

Tangomatt, when we going for a drive??? :D

Your right, where does it end???

Definetly a 15k exercise, I say leave it and see how far you can go with the 2.6.

So what options are you looking at exhaust wise?? This can make or break your setup....

precisely...we got my RS's to come in 1000rpm earlier just by doing the head and more power everywhere as well. The same result was achieved on a HKS T51R set-up which was good confirmation the mods worked for differing combo's...for less than half of the figure above.

much easier and better way to improve response in my opinion, but if you dont have the resources and know what the real tricks are with a 26 head its an option.

well, yeah, functional is beautiful in a way. I meant it doesn't have the bling!

You can just go a single setup like mine - :)

Just two things to remember.

1. Reverse the rear/mid mufflers from what i recall (due to my chassis they go reverse or similar)

2. Yours will go under the diff :D

Has a 3.5" outlet, looks "jap performance" without the noise, and a 5" milo outlet.

Hi Moneypit,

Thanks for the feedback, we were very happy with the result we achieved and are very happy that you are too.

It was quite a drawn out process getting it all to work in harmony and Jim took his time to get it perfect.

We look forward working with you on the next stage!!

Cheers

HKS have developed (still in trial) an Exhaust V-Cam Setup already. They are also trying high pressure fuel injection for the RB26. Just a few of the goodies HKS have coming for their "Restart RB26 Project"

Cheers

Yeah noticed those photos from the HKS day in Japan. What are the advantages of a high pressure fuel injection system?

bit of a thread dig, but was looking through this the other day and thought i'd compare to my recent E85 run, and was surprised to find some pretty similar things.

at 4000rpm we're both 175rwkw

at 5000rpm we're both a touch above 325rwkw

at a little past 7000rpm we're both at the peak

comparing say 3000rpm i have 75rwkw and you have a touch above.

is the difference "of interest" just the pre 3000rpm perhaps? or was this the prelim tune and there was still some tweaking needed?
