Hey guys,

My PS3 has given me the YLOD and will have to be sent in. I want to backup the data before I send it off but with the machine shutting down randomly I can't backup it up using the PS3 backup utility.

Do you guys know how I can backup it up on XP or OSX? Any particular applications that I can use to backup? I've pulled out the hard drive and plugged them in but XP and OSX can't recognize the format.

Is the YLOD linked to HDD failure? If not can't you just send it in without the HDD. When sending in the xbox 360 due to the all to common RROD they actually asked me to remove the HDD and any accessories on the console before sending it in.

YLOD is some other hardware related issue. I ended up pulling the HD out and trying to back it up on OSX and XP. Both unsuccessful. It's been sent off now and I will just have to start all over again. Only thing I really wanted was my game data for boarderlands. But shouldn't be too hard leveling up to level 18 again.

  • 2 weeks later...

Same thing happened to me, but due to the online problems they were having on the Borderlands servers (characters stats being wiped etc) I kept a usb stick into mine and copied every time before I played online. I got the three beeps of death (it was my blue ray drive) and had to send it off. The hdd is locked to the main board, and they don't repair YOUR PS3, they send a refurb from China.

And then if there's a disc still in it, you have to waitr to get it back too :P

    • i was thinking that the 2 wires that go to the sub from factory has some sort of preamp like you mentioned and also a lo Pass filter to get just bass. now that will only use 1 channel and that really should be all i need for a sub? if i was trying to put a set of speakers in the back i can understand cutting into the left and right speaker wires. i will try how im talking about doing it and if that is crap i will do it the way of all wires. thanks for the input guys.
    • Challenging mig welding thin Aluminium pipe and trying to fit it in, having to bend and twist, but got there in the end. Fits really well and can easily get a socket wrench in there now to put it on/off. I'm in the middle of another project, so haven't installed the suction pipe yet. I'll post some pictures and results when i do.
    • I got it down to within 5 tenths of the silver time at Grand Valley in the X2010 but struggling to improve on that. Have put it aside for now. Got well into silver in the Mazda Roadster NR-A at Suzuka east course and the Alfa 155 touring car at Watkins Glen short though
