Hey guys. Happy new year! :(

I have an R32GTS4 and blew the little RB20DET (AWD obviously)

Im planning on putting in a Ser 2 RB25DET from a stagea as its replacement and was wondering if i could use a RWD ser2 RB25DET ECU to run her or am i needing a stagea one? I think with the power FC, if it can run both then it should be fine as well. I think it should be fine as the AWD is controlled via a different computer? If anyone knows about this i would appreciate it =) Also does anyone know if the RB20 flywheel will bolt up to the Ser 2 RB25DET AWD, or do I need to get an RB25 flywheel? Should be changing her out in a few days =P fun fun.

Pretty sure all RB flywheels bolt to all RB's (I have used the same flywheel/clutch setup on my RB20 and RB30 and it originally came from an RB25).

If it was auto (again, pretty sure all AWD series 2 stags are auto), you will need to remove the steel auto spigot bush and replace with a brass manual item.

Series 2 Stageas run the Neo engine so a 34GTT manual ECU would be the go or a PowerFC for a 34GTT..

Yes, the ATESSA control unit is seperate to the ECU but the Series 2 Stageas have the gearbox control built into the ECU, hence using a manual 34GTT ECU in your application would be the way to go. You can also get these ECU's Nistuned whereas you can't with 33 RB25 ECU.

for the AWD to work the ECU in the boot needs TPS signal sent to it

on your loom find the TPS wire and bridge it to the wire that runs to the boot

ie it comes from the loom on a wire to the main car ECU

it is then relayed via the ECU to another wire, which runs to the boot to the AWD computer

you can simply join these up (i do this to make Active LSD work on the PowerFC) if the ECU you use (PFC or non AWD ECU) doesnt relay the TPS signal

Is it a series 2 Stagea motor ie. neo RB25DET

or

a series 2 GTS-t motor from a series 1 Stagea?

The series 1 Stagea ECU has three different pin out configurations.

The series 2 Stagea ECU has one pinout configuration which is almost the same an R34 Gt-t. Traction control at pin 51 is the only difference.

i think you need to be a little more specific on what the engine is from. do you mean a S2 RB25DET engine from a S1 Stagea, which is the same as a late model S2 R33? or do you mean a RB25DET Neo from a S2 Stagea?

if its from a S1 stagea there is no option for a rwd ecu, or really any other ecu as the ecu plug is the same type as the R34 ecu but with a completely different pinout, a rewire would be needed to use a different ecu.

if its from a S2 stagea, Neo RB25, you'll have more luck, they do make S2 stagea's in auto and manual in the 4WD models. not the RWD models though, they are auto only. ecu plug is the same as R34 and the pinout is basically the same, i think there are some minor differences but people have successfully installed power fc's.

The engine is a S1 stagea RB25DET ie non-neo but a series 2 RB25DET. QWK32 thanks for the info on the rwd ecu... so that leaves either getting a neo motor (unlikely, as they're quite a bit more expensive... i'd just go the aftermarket ECU route if this was to be the case), or getting hold of an R33 S2 rb25 loom and ECU, and switch it out for the stagea rb25 loom?

quick update. spoke to a workshop who have done this conversion a few times. and they assured me that the auto ecu WILL work fine. however the best solution appears to be to use the RB20 loom and splice it into the RB25 stagea loom where needed. eg) injectors, coil packs, running vct wire to the ecu etc.
