Hey everyone

i had a real dodgey rebuild done by JapCars on sydney rd coburg which i wouldnt recommend to ANYONE.. whom finished it in less than 24hours and charged me $2000.... Ever since then the car was lagging, misfiring on idle etc.. At the time i though was maybe the turbo getting old but i had it checked and was told turbo was fine but did have traces of oil on the blades... So i did my own little test... The oil line from the top on the engine that goes to the air intake of turbo was actually spitting oil and my oil pressure was through the roof... i took the line off and put a little pod on it and perfect no more lag... Then before u know it im on a highway and started slowing and gearing down and while the clutch was in the car stalled... i was like wtf so i tried roll starting it and the back wheels locked up and a fkt up sound came out of the front... My engine siezed.... Everytime i tried starting it was just a single click coming from the plenum....

Now i have a non turbo r33 which is not even worth selling anymore except for the mint condition engine and now im thinking of using the block from it as ive checked the whole head and block of the turbo and the only problem is the block.... I though it could be possible with putting in a oil return line and a thicker head gasket to lower the compression....

If n e one could give me some hints as i cant really afford to recondintion the turbo block... cheers

or if anyone has a complete running block let me know i have a complete rb20 engine and rb25, also have a set of r32 gtr turbos that i could trade... Cheers

so you want to turbo your n/a rb25?

chances are the turbo head will be abit secondhand.

easy. just run a teflon -4 line from the oil pressure switch. (steel t piece it) not brass.

im not sure if the n/a block has the oil return tapped into the block and just plugged. so a custom oil return will be needed if not.(as high as possible)

ps.. the oil coming out of the breather has nothing to do with oil pressure or lag. just blowby.

you will need to swap all the electrics over from the 25t. and the parts that dont fit on the na block/head will still have to be plugged in, in order for it to work properly if you are using the stock ecu.

dont bother about lowering the compression.

Essentially what your asking is what I have done..

I did alot of the work myself... but I didn't know as much about engines/cars/turbos back then... so I was told I needed both an oil feed and oil line drilled by the guys who were helping me by doing the block drilling + water lines....

anyway, I got one or both drilled and some t-pieces for water and that was it..... ready to put on manifold, turbo, lines, dump.

Don't worry about compression too much... mines still the n/a compression with about 230rwkw and a 3076 soon to go on and hopefully 260-270+

Adam

Edit: If you need some pics of mine and where the lines are drilled let me know.

ye all i want is stock everything... But im not converting the turbo in the N/A i want to put the N/a Block into the turbo shell etc so its less of a f**karound..... so all i need are the water and oil lines done and pretty much not too much... If someone could msg me EXACTLY what to do as i need my car back asap... cheers

i went to a mechanic a while ago and the guy wanted to charge me $600 for looking at my car and told me i dropped a valve.... after about an hour of taking off the cam gears and cam shaft. i took out all 24 valves and all of them are perfect.... Now taking the engine out tomoz and gonna check the harmonic balancer to see if the block is the problem.... If n e one has piks etc of what they did to a N/A block in order to have it ready to attach a turbo head plz send em...

cheers

    • Getting Dangerously close to being ready to go back in the car. Rockers in with clearance castings now (and a quick check with the USA for the torque settings for the larger custom bolts) Covers and ported FAST Manifold sitting on there. Not fully tightened down as there's some clearancing required for the water pump with the earlier LS1 water pump styles. Example of the clearancing needing to be done: The body has to be ground a little but I'm struggling finding an actual piece of it. The later variant of water pump resolves the issue as the manifold was designed around it. It only came on the VZ LS1 in Australia, it got a different pulley for Gen4 motors. (it also costs $450... vs... $0).

    • Oh...I have the electric mirrors as well iirc ...they're in the same state as just about every other R31 door mirrors, with the 3 plastic screw towers broken/cracked in the plastic molding. All the interior is 'dry', so the mirror switches etc likely all work fine. Some pics below of the trimmer pieces ~ looks to me like previous owner, painted chrome finished trims with black paint ...ergo, the chrome underneath is likely a-ok... ...starts to look yukky posting stuff like this, how much did it cost in fuel on your last sortie up this way?...me just thinking aloud, borrow someone else's 4cyl to cut costs, come do your own pick'n'pull like before to save me some bother...hehe.. but whatever, I'll just earmark bits I know you want, because the way this is all panning out, I'll be able to retire the R31 from daily duty at long last, replacing it with a Subaru wagon I'm lining up in the wings...ergo, my attitude towards the donor pinny shell is starting to wane a bit, and I'm more than happy to help you out there... Like you say though, no rush...and I'll guarantee we won't be moving too far from this locale at any rate 😎
