OK, so time to get ready for the first round of the Sprints next week, thought i better pull thumb out of my bung hole and get a few things done to the R35. I've primarily made an effort to host these pics for the USA guys (who may be a bit aprehensive of playing with their GTR) not to mention pulling bits off / replacing bits etc....

So here we go, let's get some maintenance underway... we need the car up on stands,,, lets get this big bitchola up in the air...

Using trusty "mini-ramps" (thanks Dave) lift the front end...

001.jpg

Once the front end is lifted with the mini-ramps, get your floor jack under the front jack point (right behind the oil train port as per below..

002.jpg

Lift that sucker way up, ready for your stands...

003.jpg

Position your jack stands at the side jack points, left and right (fronts)

004.jpg

You may need to bring the car down slowly to make sure you have the jack stands positioned properly. You want to end up with something like this..

005.jpg

Now with both left and right (front) in the air, get your jack stand positioned under the rear centre jack point (just under the rear transaxle) such:

006.jpg

007.jpg

Lift the GTR up, position the jack stands just like at the front and lower slowly until you have it all positioned correctly on the rear jack points..

008.jpg

You should end up with something like this, ready for some well due maintenance..

009.jpg

010.jpg

I've found this is the best way to go about it, assuming you are doing this in your own garage.

Now.. let the games (and skinned knuckles) begin..

012.jpg

So... moral or the story is, give it a go,, it's just a car after all, and fark the warranty, fark it right in the eye with a blunt dick i say.

(more to follow)

good to see . nice plate too

got a list of things your doing to it ? or do we have to wait and see

replacing most fluids (pretty hard to get to front diff!), installing new titanium exhaust (*in pic), some new diffuser blades, some carbon fibre intake snorkels, and a few other things. yep there are heaps of covers under there, took my an hour or more to screw around getting them all off, half the battle. pita. the creeper makes things a LOT easier too.

I'm loving the look of that Exhaust.

BTW those mini-ramps are ingenious. Ive never come across them before. Where abouts can you get them? Ive always used a scissor jack behind the wheel to get it high enough to slip the jack under.

Looks like some pretty good design under there regarding aerodynamics. Must be a pain taking it off to do any work though.

I think you can buy them at most caravan dealerships (the mini-ramps) believe it or not. Otherwise a block of wood might do instead.

Wow, you learn something new everyday... Who would have thought a caravan shop would have something that is actually usefull?

Can also get them from ebay too for those (like me) that wouldn't know where to begin looking for your local caravan shop

wow good to see someone who is not afraid to give it a go.

also did you start her up without the exhaust??? lol

Good point, but I think they are fine, all I am really worried about is it falling on me whilst working under the car itself (!). It's a good idea to use the floor jack too, under the central jack points (front or rear) if you are working under the car. That way you aren't depending on just one stand/point alone.

Great to see you having a go doing everything yourself.

Did you have to take the wheels off to put the exhaust on..? :ermm:

Or you doing a brake upgrade as well?

I am doing brakes too so took the wheels off. I think you could do it with the wheels on if you wanted to.

    • Thanks for that Paul.  Do you think if I posted a picture you'd be able to remember where it went?
    • Sorry Duncan, I didn't get a notification for the replies.  Thanks for responding!  It's a full Android device, but does allow you to use CarPlay/AA as well.  This is the one I bought from NaviRS on AliExpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006368602668.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.111.59aa1802JDzQ0E - the 2K 8G-256G CAM variant but it seems to have gone up by £170 since I bought it!  My purchase was £307.14.   It's not the fastest thing in the world but performs perfectly adequately.  It stays on standby unless I disconnect the battery and let it power down, then it's just a fairly standard Android bootup time from cold.  The DSP Equaliser is very nice and made the standard stereo system sound pretty decent compared to the stock screen.  Perhaps I can take a video of it when I get a sec. It *allegedly* supports the reverse camera, but I'm yet to get that working.  It has options for reverse cam (a camera unit can be bought separately) or 360 cameras (also bought separately).  To be fair it doesn't seem to detect that the shifter was put into reverse but I'm working on a theory about this as well.  At the moment I'm going without which is a bit annoying considering the car is an absolute canal barge but so far I haven't caused any damage I'll grab a picture of the wire I'm missing later today when I can get outside.  My theory, by the by, is that not only is the head unit different, but the CANBUS network has different signals for the different years.  I think this because I have a spare AC panel from a newer Infiniti G37 (as opposed to my Nissan panel) which wouldn't control anything except the volume when I had it wired up with the stock system.  I'm going to throw it back in and see if the screen will respond to it.  I've just ordered an arduino CANBUS module so I can have a look at the signals going around the car and see if I can spot anything.  I'm thinking if I can work out what it's expecting vs what it's getting I might be able to translate and relay the signal back but so far just a theory anyway. I also found this on my travels, so far the only one that specifically matches my car: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002822934280.html?spm=a2g0s.imconversation.0.0.33433e5fgttovi If you look at the picture of the before, it has the card reader slot, and the picture of the head unit is exactly the same as the one pictured in my original post.  I asked if they sell the cables separately but sadly they won't.  I didn't want to just buy this one because it's a super old Android version and only dual core - likely slow as hell.
    • As above, you did refill the coolant and burp the system before running it again didn't you?
    • To be fair - you see the same thing for every clutch. There's always someone making an installation error.
    • Just saw this, redacted names. It's on a R33 GTS-t Facebook group. Looks like still teething issues.
