Hi all.

I drive an r34 GTT, quite stock except of a 3 inch turbo back exhaust, brand new coilpacks, and a apexi power intake pod filter.

Doing this i have not gained any extra boost what so ever, i have an aftermarket boost gauge and it stayed the exact same as when the car was stock, thinking it would creep up with each little mod.

Its kind of like its been set to that setting, which is approx 5.6 psi and is getting stopped at that.

A good friend of mine has the exact same car, except a year older but has a very noticeable difference in power. He has factory coilpacks, factory exhaust but a HKS pod. He is pulling a lot more boost and is really really noticable when driving. Neither of us have touched the turbos or even have boost controllers.

Any ideas why this is, if anything i should have quite a bit more power than him but its the other way around.

Have they come out of the factory with different boost settings??

Are the pods making a difference?? We took his off and you can see light through it and is very thin, mine on the other hand is really compact and a bit like carboard looking.

Appreciate any help guys.

Thanks

standard on the cars was 5psi up till 4500rpm then up to 7psi from then on. I have a completely stock 34GTT and wasn't sure whether an exhaust would actually allow the boost to pick up or if the stock controller would stop it from going any higher someone will be able to shed some light

sounds like a faulty boost control solenoid

Buy a turbotech boost controoler for about $30

Will that automatically adjust the psi??, because id say my mates is up around 7-8 quite easily. and im the one with mods.

Of your mods, the only one with the potential to increase boost and power output is the exhaust (by freeing up the flow of exhaust gasses). If anything, the pod will reduce power output because the engine is inhaling hot air from the engine bay, rather than cooler air from outside the car.

boost soleniod will remain off for a lot of symptoms on the trouble shooting matrix in the manual . try re setting the ecu . or re plumb the t piece so its on 7 the whole time . its easy to do and very relaible

hay mate sound like your having some fun with your car! just a bit of infor for you, when asked to swap cats with your mate this is becouse if your cat, new or old has failed internaly it can cause the exhaust to block this will limit in min or major way how your turbo boost and how much it can boost to (depending on what is wrong) easy thing to check, drop it out and look at it! you factory boost solinod could be then next problem as stated thats easy to check as well change that out with your mates car, and for sh_ts and giggles if thats your problem then go for either electronic boost controlled ( no nasty boost spikes ) or a t piece bleed valve there are heaps of these to choose from most have psi settings on them you can adjust to, without the nasty guess work ( better to be safe then sorry) remember though when re setting the boost level the stock turbo has a ceramic exh wheel so from memory 10psi is max safe limit with out ca-BOOM!!!!!! i could be wrong so resurch this as there are a few guro's on this site, like discopatato for instance.

what about intake mods? if your air filter is blocking the flow with a dirty/restrictive filter then it wont matter what exhaust you have.

Intake is only a apexi power intake pod filter, cant personally see a lot of air getting through it. Great filter but very resrtictive on the air flow getting through, its like a piece of cardboard.
