Read in a magazine the other day that to just complete the main story line and nothing else takes 40-50 hours.

And also found this:

"When you reach the open ended part of Final Fantasy XIII you can take on monster hunting missions. Daisuke Inoue, Final Fantasy XIII Battle Planner, designed these side quests with four rules.

1.) They should never force the player characters to equip any specific accessories.

2.) They should never require players to use TP abilities* to defeat them.

*(TP abilities are special skills such as Quake, Libra, and summons.)

3.) They should never require the player to use healing items to defeat them.

4.) They should never require the player to use shrouds* to defeat them.

*(Shrouds or smokes are buffing items you can use before encounters.)

“I can assure you that the mission monsters were designed first and foremost to present players with a real challenge,” said Inoue. “So much so, in fact, that our producer Mr. Kitase even came to us complaining he could not beat some of them and had no idea what to do, despite fighting with none of the handicaps mentioned above.”

Monster missions are the main after-the-credits-roll content in Final Fantasy XIII. Expect a challenge, if you decide to keep playing."

Sounds like its going to be a fairly decent length game.

My game shop got FFXIII (English Version) in on Friday and I got the limited edition copy for Xbox 360.

Very slow at the start but after the first 2 hours into the game the good old love for FF comes back into play.

But seriously you can play the first 5hours of the game just hitting "attack" "attack" "attack" zzzz haha

But then it starts to open up once you get your first summon... the difficulty level also jumps up a step, after that.

I'm trying not to throw in spoilers, just warning you guys to be patient ;)

Also I love the battle system just keeps growing as the game goes on, its all about huge combos. They only get bigger as the game goes on.

Enjoying the game big time and yes it is very very linear but being linear is not a bad thing, actually sometimes it works very well.

But then again you just miss the good old free roam in the FF series.

Anyway I love the game, would like to see what you guys think once you get a copy. :)

I cant believe you got a copy!! I rang a couple places today to see if they would sell it to me but wouldn't until 9am tomorrow :)

I pre ordered the game a long time ago from shop "x".

I'm not allowed to say the shop name because it has a strict release date ;)

When they sold it to me they gave it to me in a paper bag, it felt like a drug deal just went down haha

i used to work at toyworld so would buy games about 10 mins after they arrived at the shop. i was storeman, so as soon as the stock arrived i would open the box to see if there was anything interesting in it. if there was i would take the box straight to the boss to get it entered into the computer so i could buy the game. if there wasn't i'd finish what i was doing then take the box to the boss. sometimes they would only get there the day before the release. other times 2 days before, or in the case of the ps2, about lunchtime on the day of the release. i remember that because we had 1 person waiting out the front of the shop when i got there at 8:30 and he had to come back later on. and even then he only layby'd it.

saw a review of it last night on good game. they said it was ok but not great, but then other times i have seen their reviews of crap games saying they are good and vice versa. seems to be ok though. since GT5 won't be out until after the next ice age i might go buy a ps3 and ff13 as this is the first game i have actually wanted for the ps3 that has actually been released (gt5 is the only other game i want)

been playing it, it made me fall asleep......

I am f**king disappointed at this game, the battle system is slightly cool but i miss the whole walk around and randomly get a fight thing, none of this "oh there is a person standing there who wants to fight and cant get past without it" shit.

too f**king linear.

:) :)

edit - it better get f**king good soon or its going back

Yeah i'm a bit dissapointed by it. Way to linear. Story line is a bit out there (and hard to understand at best of times) and all the things i loved about Final Fantasy and the combat system and exploring seem to have faded away.

I have just gone through the second chapter, its starting to pick up now, I can develop the characters which is good......

It really lacks limit breakers so far....

GIVE ME BACK CLOUD AND OMNISLASH!

I am still disappointed, but it's picking up... - not like theres anythign else to do with this rain around......

Hmmmmm, after playing it for a while last night...

Paradigm Shift is a pretty handy feature! I am actually starting to really like the gameplay of it, the visuals are porn....

and alas, i am already stuck on a god damn "boss" in bresha......

I was thinking about getting this game, but that would mean a purchase of a PS3 as well, which I haven't needed to do yet as there is nothing out that I want... To be honest, I'm not even sure I want this one, you guys don't seem to really like it but

I liked the last FF I played... but that was heaps more old school then you new fags... Final Fantasy Mystic Quest...

I'll read some reviews and watch a video or two to see if it can sway me, but I don't think I have 50 hours to put into it anyway! :)

I'm hoping it gets a lot better once i get into it a bit more, only probably about 2 hours in. I just really miss the simple things like in FF8 where items were hidden everywhere and they didn't show up on screen with a big flashing "X" or something, you had to click it yourself if you thought an item was there. And the fact a map wasn't just a straight line. So far i have literally pressed forward the whole time on the joy stick.
