Hello people.

After 1.5years of saving, 3 gt-t test drives, endless hours scanning car sales.... it has finally been purchased!!!!

Vehical:

First owner in australia (fresh import)

1998 R34 GT-T 83,000 KM'S

White

Manual

Side Skirts

Turbo Timer

All new Yokohama Radial Tyres

Thats what it has... as for the condition ... WOW! i have lookd at many r34's mostly private sellers and they where never as nice as this.

It is so clean/neat/stock it even has the original tape deck player lol...

Ill give you a run down what i whent through on price / haggle for people who are intersted.

It was advertised at 18,999 Drive away.

I managed to get:

18,500 drive away.

100,000kms Full service done no charge.

5,000kms Regular service had been done a day before i got there (and as me/my mechanic checkd the car) it was obvious the oil/filters etc where new)

12month national platinum warrenty included (was not included as advertised)

the car was going to be if i got it from a private person about $17,250 then u throw on your 1-2k transfer/government fees....

not to mention i got it as the first person in aus so all the import papers would need to be found and all kinds of shit.

the car came with all papers even had original photos of it at the auction in japan and it lookd just as good there as it did in the yard.

Also, i said to him i am very keen at this price/deal we have arranged but to seal the deal i will require a racv check done and if it gets the O.K i will purchase it.

As i find out.... racv dont do checks on imports (mainly skylines lol) so i had to go elsewhere, i said to him if you can pay for it and it checks out you got a deal and if it fails well then its his loss of money.

SO! all going well (check is been done on wednesday) and i did notice the oil pressure guage in the middle wasnt working. He fixes that and check is all good i will have myt very first r34 gt-t!!!!

After all my experience i must recommend going through a dealer/importer. This guy had been in the buisness since 1992. and was extremely friendly/laid back very honest etc...

He was so confident in it been a good car he was willing to pay for the check to be done... that says alot. The company also said they havent had to give him a bad defect on any of his imported cars.

And last of all, a big thanks to all skylineaustralia for helping me and the advise (even if i didnt follow it) every little bit of info helps. When i pick up the car photos will be posted. and ill be happy to help any car clubs around looking for new members etc.

modding will begin shortly most likely... as i can get a full custom exhaust fitted : ) for a real decent price.

Thanks all :ermm: !

-----------------------------------

That was at the end of my last post incase people where interested.... but yeh i pickd it up on saturday so happy with it nothing wrong at all if people what i can send them the state roads report (perfect) but here are the pictures

One thing i have noticed which im not really sure about as this is my first turbo/skyline car :ermm:

When we first drove the car back from the dealer the far right gauge (boost) was bouncing everywhere it whent into the negative with clutch in and whent up as u gave it more...

now as u can see via the picture on idle it sits in the 0 when i go it goes up a bit but it never gets below 0.... is that because it has warmd up and ive been driving lots?

first up nice car sounds like your boost gauge is working fine. if your foot isnt on the accelerator your not creating boost so it should read under 0 but when you put you foot on it it will pick up. a common thing with r34's is the boost gauge will stop working which mine does on occasion,, there is a few threads around abouth that.

also ive got the exact same turbo timer in my r34 lol.

lol, what i found out with this timer is you can adjust it you can either set it at a certain time like have it running for 2 mins everytime you turn it off, or set it on auto and you can adjust it from level 1,2 or 3, 3 being the longest.

Yeah it's normal for a boost gauge to do that, goes up and down as it monitors how much boost pressure the turbo is making, which will depend on your right foot, controlling the accelerator.

Like what scotty014 said.

I think Nissan OEM gauges tend to play up after so long.

Best just leave it and install an aftermarket Boost gauge, which will be a lot more accurate.

Haha!! Try not to stall it, you will get use to the clutch.

If you do and the turbo timer kicks in just pull over to the side and let it count down, try not to drive the car and all of a sudden switch it off.

Or like my turbo timer, you can cancel it out, just switch the key back to ON and turn off the turbo timer and the car will stay on and the turbo timer will reset.

How nostalgic of you with the cassette tape player :D

Congrats on the purchase. :ermm:

haha how awesome is it? so funny the frequency only goes up to 90.00 so icant get any of the local stations except for 89.9 which is light fm (Christian channel)

spent most of today as im on holidays from work for 2 weeks :D cleaning the car.... got some random stickers in jap on it, there is a big one on the right back bumper which wont come off and i dont want to do to much as i may damage it...

over the next few weeks im goin to be driving around talking to performance shops cos im going to be getting all my work done by a professional spent to much money for me to install something and stuff the car :ermm:

so much fun to drive i freakin love it and so clean :P

first thing first is to fine me a mp3 player and some decent speakers and fine me a tuner! RE customs seems decent and i live in rowville so kinda local...

Yeah, "Jap FM" we call it.

Cruising down the highway, listening to Christian Love songs :(

To get that sticker off, you might want to just get a hairdryer and blow some heat on it and carefully lift it up with your finger nail.

Yeah I think I mentioned RE Customs to you before.

Ray and Brad are SAU members on here as well.

reminds me of mine which i just got recently. Completely stock although mines is series 2 so is a pearl white and had a cd player instead of tape player (unfortunately the cd play had a cd stuck in it so 'Jap FM' was all i had also unless i used my ipod but felt way to dangerous having an earphone in even if i only had one in really is completely different to having a loud stereo hard to explain) and mine didn't have a turbo timer. Now have a new stereo installed which is much better than the standard (they are paper cone stock speakers lol) and also had the alarm installed with it which had turbo timer built in fortunately.

congrats, always regretted selling my GT-t wish I could've held onto it

like others have said your boost gauge sounds fine, it will read into -boost (vacuum) if you have your foot off the the throttle it's when your boost gauge sits still you have a problem, sometimes the vacuum hose can split or the gauge itself can stop working

thats what im saying... im probly not saying it properly lol.

it DID go into negative like your all saying but ever since we drove it back and its been hot and me non stop driving etc, it STAYS on 0 and moves a little bit as i give it gas. as soon as ignition is turnd on it jumps to 0 then as i get up in the rpm i can see it move its hard to see tho.

any ideas ?

oh and my dealer taught me how to look out for the dreaded coilpacks... ive had the tcs/slip/engine lights come on twice now just as im driving along, he said that would happen as they missfire. Does this sound like my coilpacks are about to go? it is up to 82,000 dont think they have been replaced.

Sounds like the vacuum line which runs from the gauge to the manifold has a split in it. If you pop the bonnet and stand along the drivers side of the engine, you should see a small rubber hose coming off the inlet manifold - I attached a pic. It runs from the manifold, down to a little box near the ID plate (sorry I don't know the technical name for it). Take the line off and see if it has split at either end. Mine did this a few months ago - if you want a quick fix, cut the end of the hose off a bit to get rid of the split piece, but chances are it'll happen again within a few weeks because the rubber is brittle. Take it in to supercheap and pick up a length of hose to match the size and hopefully you'll be set.

This was the reason for my gauge sitting at 0 at idle, and only moving slightly on boost.. hopefully this is the solution to your problem too

i guess because recently its been 35+ and ive driven it heaps the engine has gotten hotter than what its used to and the hose was already brittle and hte heat just made it crack or some shit...... its strange because it was probly the 3rd time its been driven here lol  ill sus it out before i head to the tuners : )

From memory TCS = Traction Control System

(A-LSD) SLIP = Active - Limited Slip Differential (your rear diff)

Don't think it will have anything to do with the spark plugs, get RE Customs to check out the sensors / system, run a diagnostics test to isolate the errors and find out why the engine light comes on and off.

Spark plug miss fire is usually something to do with the plugs itself / spark plug leads, then get the distributor / alternator checked out.

You car is getting close to a 100,000 km service... Yes it is a big one.

Timing belt <--- Usually owners in Japan change it around the 60,000 to 80,000 kms mark, but just to be safe, change it so you are 100% sure it is brand new / Won't need to be changed for another 100,000 kms.

Fan belt <--- Usually changed when the Timing belt is done.

Spark plugs

Oil

Oil filter

Air filter

Fuel filter

Gear box oil

Radiator coolant flush

Check entire engine

Check entire drivetrain = brakes / diff / suspension / tyres / clutch / gearbox etc.

+ Whatever is also due. LOL!

There is a thread on a 100,000 kms service, some of the R34 GTT owners can dig it up for you. :)

Like what R34mac said.

OR Check the hose clamp and re tighten it... It may just be a little loose... Or when you take it down to RE Customs, get Ray to check it out.

Keep in mind, on a hot day, turbo cars will not be as responsive with boost and some times you may not even get full boost, due the the heat.

Since you only have a side mount intercooler, the R34 GTT ones are pretty good for what they are, but when 35+ degree C days come, you will notice a slight lag.

Again normal due to hot outside temps.

another happy Japcars customer.. good to see :) congrats on the purchase mate

your not wrong, top bunch of guys very laid back.

I probly forgot to mention before.... part of the deal me buying the car was they where to do a full service on the car.. so yeh its been done :)

havent had any of the lights come on today been driving heaps... cant help it hehe but petrol is getting nasty :(. From what the dealer said they can come on randomly if it does a small missfire they automaticly come on... could be a sign of the coilpacks wearing ill most likely get them replaced with good ones when i do some performance work.

*Boost gauge fixed!*

you where spot on dude, first thing i did in the morning was check that hose and it was barely on there was a split at the end that connects to that black box, i chopd it and put it back on works like a dream. Thanks heaps for that :) saved me been a noob and going to a garage :D.

Also noticed it likes to boost a fair bit in the cold was rather fun driving home altho i was granny driving... not ready for the wet yet :).

Fair sure i have a speeding fine already its god damn too hard to resist :\.

Oh dear... having far to much fun today.... 3 points lost  the copper was a absolute douche too i had a fairly good reason to be driving fast as i was trying to do the right thing at the time lol.. didnt want a bar of it just said pop the bonet and says "what mods do you have" i was honest and nice and he gave me a ticket i even said have a good day pal and he just grunted lol.

Lol.. settle down now mate  After a while the novelty will wear off! I've had my GTT for over 2 years and I still love it every bit a much as when I bought it. BUT luckily the urge to drive everywhere on full boost does wear off quick
