Buy a new 'line? Change the timing belt IMMEDIATLY!!!

Recommended Posts

Hiya ppls

I bought an r32 gts-t with a (supposedly) genuine 160000ks, and appently, the timing belt had been changed @ 150000. All is good, thought I, for another 40000ks or so. Turns out that the belt had indeed been changed, but when the 'mechanic' did it, he decided to try and lever the harmonic balncer off between the front timing cover and the balancer itself. One dented timing cover. Not so bad, you might say. but the timing cover was rubbing on the tensioner pulley, and causing it to move just that little bit... to cut an (already) long story short(er), the belt ran off the back of the tensioner, and shaved itself away on the water pump, until it was thin enough to pop off the back of the cam gears... Ta Da!!!! 24 bent valves... if their is a moral to this story, its change, or at least check the timing belt, ASAP!!!

btw, its cheaper to get a second hand head than to buy new valves and guides
